Loved the playcalling, hated the execution. We needed that td on the deep ball, needed that to be a catch on 3rd down, and rudock should not have thrown it to the wr which resulted in the pick 6 since someone else was wide open. All of those were great play calls but executed wrong. Change just those 3 plays and this game is completely different.

A lot of work to do. I miss Drake Johnson. Smith is a tough SOB but no quickness. It may be getting late for Green. I think Isaac could make a push.

Jake played a great game. Yes 3 picks is bad but it's his first start and u hope he will fix that. It seemed like 1 of them was not his fault. 3 overthrown passes but overall it's clear he is our best option. As for the run game it was pathetic. The D played well and peppers is worth the hype. Sleep on it and get ready for the beavers

"Great" is a bit much.  But at times, good.

Three interceptions isn't acceptable, but as others have said, two of those are as much on the receiver as on Ruddock.

The first overthrown deep ball was Ruddock.  Probably jitters.

The second I'm not convinced was uncatchable.  I thought I saw Chesson slowing up his last step or two.  If he would have reached for his top gear as the ball was coming down he might well have gotten under that.

Ruddock's completions were for the most part quick and decisive.  Except for the deep balls he put the ball where it was supposed to be.  Plus, Ruddock stood in the pocket.  And unlike Gardner, he kept his eyes on the field as he dropped back.

I think Harbaugh exhibited a lot of class in the post-game press conference by accentuating the positives and being honest about areas where more work is needed.

This team has all the markings of a team that will progress across the season to its natural ceiling.  It's natural ceiling is *not* great, but it will be pretty good.

We are in way better shape than we were this time last year.

Saying that rudock played a "great game" just because you feel that his mistakes are being a bit over scrutinized leads me to believe you come from the era of participation trophys.

Say "rudock could've been worse" or "rudock wasn't THAT bad". It conveys the same thought and it does it without claiming that 3 ints (including a game sealing pick 6) is a "great" effort

You're welcome

RB play has got to be better. Smith ran straight into guys on multiple occasions and Isaac runs to slow and straight up for my liking. Many instances tonight where they could of got 2-3 yards more on plays. If Rudock is the answer we are in trouble. We lose 24-17 with a pick 6 and 3 picks. If we get an ounce of better QB play we are looking at a different outcome.

I can't remember the last time Michigan ran a 2 minute offense that didn't look like ass or was Denard pulling something out of his ass.  Either way asses were involved, so this was a nice change.

I felt the play calling was very vanilla and predictable.  I felt like I knew exactly when they would run and even what routes a lot of the receivers were gonna run--ESPECIALLY after Rudock demonstrated his inaccuracy with the deep bal.

I'm not sure what to say about the RB coaching at this point.  After watching what seems like 99% of RBs run towards the big open green space, seeing ours jump into piles of bodies just looks terrible.  There's something here I'm not understanding.

Too many instances of 10 guys doing their job.

I didn't want to agree with the so-called "experts", but 7-5 is looking like a real possibility.

Maybe some of you should be the coach, obviously, you are Far better than Harbaugh?!?! What a joke, please remember he is doing his best with what Hike left him. Be a true and loyal fan for shit sakes... Greedy, only his first game, and they looked WAY better than a Hoke coached team!!!!

1) 2 of the INTs were on Grant Perry for breaking off his routes.  He is a very poor route runner and needs a lot of work.

2) Ty Isaac needs to be getting the bulk of the carries.  He is much shiftier and quicker than Smith and almost as powerful with better vision.

3) Kalis flat out sucks.  Its his 3rd year as a starter and he still sucks.

D played well overall.

You don't know who the first int is on. That could be either player. Sitting down in the zone looked like the right play for me. That comes with working with your receivers and seeing the same things. The pick six is inexcusable. He was tightly covered and you have Isaac at the top of the screen with a lb playing 15 yards off. I can't remember the circumstances of the second pick at the moment but I do remember it being bad.

I have to laugh at your Grant Perry comment. Nothing could be further from the truth. He was deemed 'college ready" in high school solely on his crisp route running skills. There is a big difference in running a good route and knowing the play like the back of your hand. Grant has only been in this offense 1 month. That's a lot to put on a young kid in his first game on prime time. Looked like to me he simply misunderstood the call...at least once if not twice.

I think he looks at his other options and realizes that this is it.

Also, can't bench a 5th year transfer in his first game.

Obviously he can be benched if he continues to struggle week after week, but if Harbaugh wants to get any grad transfers again he needs to show them that he will have faith

It's game 1,Rudock has only been on campus a couple months.Ironic that all 3 picks to the same true freshman WR?  He will improve dramatically each week and 6 weeks from now you will singing his praises and kissing his ass. If Shane Morris is what you want go over to YouTube, maybe you will see what everyone already has. A lot of things to clean up but overall much easier to watch than Gardner/Morris shitshow.

Wheatley needs to get into that azz! The speed lacks at the position sure but the reads were embarrassing. Rudock simply had an extremely bad night and the strength of the O looked to be the receiving corps and TE play.

The vision by Smith (and Green) was pretty poor last year too.  Vision is one of those things that's hard to teach.  You either have or you don't.  It can get better but I wouldn't expect an substantial gains.

Much better than last year.  Michigan scored on Offense against a good team.  TWICE!  Have to learn and coach up from mistakes, and I'm more convinced that'll happen more this year than it ever did last year.

At some point you just have to admit that the players aren't very good when you have NFL coaches at each position and they still struggle. Also for people clammoring for Shane, do you not remember last year when everyone wanted Gardner benched.

Possess the ball, play good special teams. If you lost, so be it. We have an obvious talent issue with the basics. Harbaugh needs time and will suceed. If Morris doesn't see the field in this game ... he will not next year either. 3 picks ? ... so when does the ranking system get adjusted for players. Lots of top guys stunk. If I played for Michigan I would lay out on gravel to catch a ball. Did so on Packard. Who is Darboo .. bench him

Said this on twitter, but this score would be 38-3 if this was a year ago. Not only would they not have taken advantage of that unnecessary roughness penalty while down 2 TDs on the road, but they also would've folded up shop after the pick six. Instead, NO ONE on that team gave an inch, and they went right down the field for a TD and were an onside kick away from potentially going onto to tie the game on the road at night. That would be unthinkable a year ago. I'm impressed. That's coaching.

A similar comment. It was winnable, but Utah horribly missed two FGs with a guy usually good from that distance, and kept the first TD drive alive with that late hit. I guess you can take the player out of Da U, but you can't take Da U out of the player. That said, I agree with you WD that I don't think last year's team would have executed the kind of drive that got it to one score. Gardner would have tried, but it would have lacked the crispness and organization. A loss is never easy but there were definitely some signs of optimism.

Look...maybe some of you have never played the game before...but you have to understand that Grant Perry was responsible for 2 of the 3 Ints for sure.  He broke off his routes.  The ball was where it should have been.

Rudock was not the problem tonight...so buy a fucking clue.

Maybe those routes are up to the receiver to make the choice and they just got crossed up? Jake may have seen it differently. I'm not sure that is the case, but it is possible. Or maybe because he is a freshman he struggles with knowing who is the hot or whether they are in zone or man because they disguised it well. Thanks for assuming all of us know nothing about the game. I guess I'll just put all those years in the sport in the garbage can so that I forget all that I knew just so that you can be right.

The team didn't give up. The coaching staff put a lot of faith in the freshman receiver, and he started to come through in the last drive. Peppers was flying all over the place. Wormley was a beast all night. The special teams were off the chain most of the time. Rudock was not sacked. He had two interceptions on blown routes, and had more passing yards and two passing TDs than his counterpart. We still have interior O line stuff to deal with and that could end up being the biggest challenge of the year - but that's no surprise given the past several years. In spite of this, Smith ran hard, and even Rudock made some good calls at times, running for yardage. This was a top-flight coaching staff crash landing into the reality that has been the past three years. I am confident that this team is going to improve throughout the year. That's good enough for me right now.

See you all next week, see what we have to say after that game.

For all of you acting like Utah will be national champs this year, go suck a cock.  We should have won this game.
