Are you glad Michigan is opening on a Thursday?
When Michigan announced it would be the first major football game of 2015 for its opener, and that that meant playing on a Thursday night, my initial reaction was: 'That's not Michigan. Dave Brandon creates the future, etc.'
As the game approached, I talked myself into thinking that even though Michigan football belongs on a Saturday afternoon, I would be pretty appreciative that the Michigan football season started two days early.
Now that it is here, I am realizing that I really, really dislike it. The 'favorite gameday traditions thread' made me realize that 95% of us cannot have the usual Saturday/gameday that we are used to. I'm at work, and have to pretend I am working for the next 9 hours, which is the worst possible way to spend the hours before kickoff.
I'm just curious what everyone else's opinions are.

Yup. I couldn't handle the other two days with the season starting tonight. Also, will be driving to STL on Friday for my wife's cousin's wedding this weekend. Best to be in A2 drinking Michigan beer with my UM friends watching the game on Snyder, than in MO hotel room telling my in-laws I'll be down later.

I'm also lucky though, have a Crossfit Competition this weekend, so if it was on Saturday I'd be missing the game.

Fuck no, I have class.

You can pay for school but you can't buy class.

but you can't play school.

I don't think I could wait two more days.

Nothing beats a Saturday game, but with all this anticipation I'm glad I don't have to wait an extra two days.

I don't care for it, but as the season opener, it doesn't bother me as much as it would if it were midseason. (It helps that I have tomorrow off from work - if I didn't, this would massively suck.)

It would be poor planning on our part to play a home game without all the students back. The Pigskin Classic worked out okay, but it was a Saturday, not a week night.
September 3rd, 2015 at 1:32 PM ^
Oh yeah, a home Thursday game would be awful. Asking 110,000 to attend a night game on a work/school night?

Without a doubt, it gets my anxiety for the game and season out of the way so I can enjoy the other games on saturday.

Works just fine for a road season opener. Shouldn't do it more than once every decade or so though.

It's unique. I don't think I'd like it to be a regular thing but as a one time thing it isn't horrible.

all fucking live. It's a once-in-forever thing. The entire GD CFB world will have their eyes on us. This is not a bad thing. As far as I'm concerned, CFB starts and ends with UM so UM should be the first and showcased game of every season.

I think i would dislike it if it were in AA but since it's on the road I'm kind of happy I get my season 2 days before most of the country.

At first, I was like nawww bro.
But now, I am like yeaaaa bro.

Yes - First big game of the year, prime time, great exposure for the team, especially if they win tonight. And if they do win, that makes getting to kick back in Saturday and casually watch some good football games w/o any stress all the sweeter.
No - because I don't plan on sleeping much tonight, tomorrow at work will be a long, long day.

I love my football Saturdays. There are only 12 guaranteed football Saturdays (hopefully 14 this year), and I hate losing one to a Thursday.
September 3rd, 2015 at 10:44 AM ^
If it weren't week 1, I probably would hate it.
But I can't wait another day to see this eteam play.
Plus, I now have the holiday weekend free.
Yeah Thursday game!

Also, it gave me an excuse to take tomorrow off for the long weekend. If we get our asses kicked, that'll be happening in front of a huge national audience, so the next week and a half will be unbearable.
But I'm predicting a big statement win tonight. Headlines tomorrow to read "Michigan's is Back", "Michigan Pounds Utah", "Magic Underwear not effective against Wolverine attacks".

And only on the road. Something about a midweek games at the Big House doesn't sound natural.
September 3rd, 2015 at 10:54 AM ^
I'm not a fan. I'm on the west coast and don't get off until 9 EST and won't be home until like 930. Entirely self reasons, but I feel like I'm justified in feeling the way i do. Took tomorrow off, so I guess I have that...
September 3rd, 2015 at 11:25 AM ^
Dude, you work until 6pm?
September 3rd, 2015 at 10:54 AM ^
I'm glad I don't have to wait until Saturday, but I don't want to open on Thursday again (at least not any time soon).
September 3rd, 2015 at 11:04 AM ^
but it gives me a good excuse to take tomorrow off and make a 4-day weekend out of it. If I couldn't take tomorrow off and had to work on 5 hrs of sleep (or less if OT is involved), I'd be pretty pissed.

a game Labor Day Weekend. I'm wide open after today so that is nice. I still like my football on Saturday.

Saturdays can be devoted to football, this is just a cruel tease.
