Are you glad Michigan is opening on a Thursday?

Submitted by gpsimms not to… on

When Michigan announced it would be the first major football game of 2015 for its opener, and that that meant playing on a Thursday night, my initial reaction was: 'That's not Michigan. Dave Brandon creates the future, etc.'

As the game approached, I talked myself into thinking that even though Michigan football belongs on a Saturday afternoon, I would be pretty appreciative that the Michigan football season started two days early.

Now that it is here, I am realizing that I really, really dislike it. The 'favorite gameday traditions thread' made me realize that 95% of us cannot have the usual Saturday/gameday that we are used to. I'm at work, and have to pretend I am working for the next 9 hours, which is the worst possible way to spend the hours before kickoff.

I'm just curious what everyone else's opinions are.

Hated it when it was first announced. I like it now. I took time off for it. Just left holiday market with a whole bunch of meats and cheeses bread and 3 six packs of Michigan beer. It's gonna be a good day.

Yup. I couldn't handle the other two days with the season starting tonight. Also, will be driving to STL on Friday for my wife's cousin's wedding this weekend. Best to be in A2 drinking Michigan beer with my UM friends watching the game on Snyder, than in MO hotel room telling my in-laws I'll be down later.

I kind of agree, I feel like I should be drinking beer and heating up eggs and pancakes with pregames on but instead I'm in my cube having a tough time focusing.

I don't care for it, but as the season opener, it doesn't bother me as much as it would if it were midseason.  (It helps that I have tomorrow off from work - if I didn't, this would massively suck.)

I have pork on the smoker for Harbaugh burgers (bacon cheesesburger with pulled pork), green beans in the crockpot, mac & cheese goes in smoker later, and Reese brownies are made. At least we will eat good and drink enough bourbon to deal with whatever happens tonight. I only slept about four hours because of nerves and excitement. GO BLUE!

all fucking live. It's a once-in-forever thing. The entire GD CFB world will have their eyes on us. This is not a bad thing. As far as I'm concerned, CFB starts and ends with UM so UM should be the first and showcased game of every season.

I think i would dislike it if it were in AA but since it's on the road I'm kind of happy I get my season 2 days before most of the country.

Yes and No:

Yes - First big game of the year, prime time, great exposure for the team, especially if they win tonight. And if they do win, that makes getting to kick back in Saturday and casually watch some good football games w/o any stress all the sweeter.

No - because I don't plan on sleeping much tonight, tomorrow at work will be a long, long day.

In reality the team gets to start practice two days earlier than everyone else. Two days of work that wouldn't be there otherwise. Also two days extra rest for game two. So it is a slight advantage in some ways

I love it. Getting it earlier makes me happy. It's only time all year. And we're getting much more national attention for it which is cool. You should still have plenty of time to go home and get comfy and get the drinking started.

I guess i should add that I took the day off tomorrow, which everyone that could have should've done! Then it feels like it's the weekend Today after works which gives you more of that football feeling, plus you can drink, have people over, cookout, stay up late/sleep in etc. if I had to work tomorrow it wouldn't be as nice, but I still wouldn't mind.

With all the hype of Harbaugh coming in and the storm it's created. How could we not be the big Thursday night game to kick the season off? The whole world will be watching. I don't know. It just fits.

Also, it gave me an excuse to take tomorrow off for the long weekend.  If we get our asses kicked, that'll be happening in front of a huge national audience, so the next week and a half will be unbearable.

But I'm predicting a big statement win tonight.  Headlines tomorrow to read "Michigan's is Back", "Michigan Pounds Utah", "Magic Underwear not effective against Wolverine attacks".

I'm not a fan.  I'm on the west coast and don't get off until 9 EST and won't be home until like 930.  Entirely self reasons, but I feel like I'm justified in feeling the way i do.  Took tomorrow off, so I guess I have that...

but it gives me a good excuse to take tomorrow off and make a 4-day weekend out of it.  If I couldn't take tomorrow off and had to work on 5 hrs of sleep (or less if OT is involved), I'd be pretty pissed.
