Very pregnant wife going to Oregon State game with me, any special accommodations at the Big House?

Submitted by ChuckieWoodson on

Any other Mgodads have had experiences at a game with a pregnant wife and if any special accommodations were made? I figured I'd just chat with the usher when we got to our section, but would be great to know if there any special services she might be privy to. Thanks.

There is a small emergency room at the stadium. Residents of the Michigan ER department staff all football games just in case. Don't know what else you're looking for but at least if something medically is an issue you should be covered

First thing that comes to mind: Don't throw her into the air after a touchdown. Even if all the cool kids are doing it.

It will get hot and if she doesn't get enough fluid in her system, she will cramp up and be miserable.  She may not feel it at the game, but by that evening, she'll feel it.  Me and my wife have gone through for of these pregnancies and each doctor has advocated for staying hydrated.

Yeah it sucks with all the frequent bathroom stops, but that's the price you'll have to pay to keep her and the baby comfortable.

Only advice I have is to say hang on to that trooper!  My wife was great during late pregnancy but if I had suggested a football game, I think she would've gone Lorena Bobbitt on me.

Granted I love your bringing a designated driver style, but having gone through the "very pregnant wife" thing a few years back, wouldn't it be better just to let the young lady chill at home and relax while you take the game in with a buddy whom when after your child arrives you won't see for a very very very long time?

Just a suggestion.

Though don't tell the wife I brought it up. I don't need that 3rd trimester insanity on me. Also don't mention I said "insanity."

You are a brave man. My wife was a trooper. I took her to a Red Wings game when she was like two months from due date. It was ok, but I wished later I shouldn't have done that. I also took her to see SAW. That was stupid.

Did I say you are brave? Good luck and congrats.

We were in the same situation last season.  Go to the crisler ticket booth a couple hours before the game, hand them your normal tickets, they will hand you tickets in ADA seating in your same section.  So for us, this meant sitting in a folding chair at the top of section 20 with all the space in the world, and easy access to bathrooms.

Perhaps Ghost Of Hoke will change his mind when he personally witnesses two C-sections, which is how both of my kids arrived. I am always open to describing the experience for people who would like a summary or play-by-play.

To Ghost Of Hoke, don't be that person - that's how some people around here end up with "Ghost Of" as part of their name.

I took a few weeks off of work to take care of the baby so my wife could heal from the c-section, but the recovery was a bitch.  He was a 10 pounder though, so natural wasn't really an option.

We were in same situation last season / daughter was born Dec 24 and we went to the games until November. My wife never had a problem and on the rare occasion we scored our daughter definitely kicked when the band played The Victors.

this will get your son/daughter to arrive on game day, or maybe game night.

trust me, i know what i'm talking about.  ever been snow-shoeing with an 8.99 month preggers wife?  dashes on the beach (different child, great quote that day, 'mama can move the mail!) i have.  great fun, seriously.  kudos to your bride for the great attitude.   suggest you sit as close to the aisle and the exit as you can, swap tickets with others if you have to.  i love that crisler/ADA suggestion above.

My wife was pregnant during the 2009 season. I got the "all in" ticket pack where you got tickets to every game but always in different seats. When I checked out there was a section with "special requests." I noted that my wife was pregnant and I would appreciate aisle seats. I ended up with aisle seats at every single game. I really appreciated that they accommodated us.

Basically what I'm saying is, the best thing you can do is call the department and ask.

There was an eight-months pregnant woman in our row at the Nebraska game in 2011. She did fairly well, remaining calm and patient while people edged by her to head up the aisle and avoided flying arms after scores... The dude was a nervous wreck, constantly stopping and/or trying to redirect people, though most were conscious of the situation.
