Utes fans plan to distribute Alex Smith heads on Sep 3 to "haunt" Harbaugh
According to a Utes sportswriter, Utah fans are planning to distribute Alex Smith heads around the stadium for the game.
Word on the street is Alex Smith heads will be randomly distributed throughout RES. Welcome to Utah, Harbaugh.

I'm unclear as to what the dig is supposed to be - Harbaugh is widely credited with turning Alex Smith's career around. Perhaps they are trying to overwhelm Harbaugh with examples of his good coaching?
At any rate, this does make me want to see the Utes go down more than I already did. They seem pretty dismissive of Michigan as a whole (which I can't blame them for given our last couple of meetings).

Good for them.

Those Mormons really know how to hit below the belt...
August 30th, 2015 at 4:47 PM ^
when Rudock torches the Utes defense.
"Oh, yeah. That's what Harbaugh does to formerly servicable QBs."
August 30th, 2015 at 10:28 AM ^
If they want to haunt Harbaugh, they need to have Bo heads yelling at him for being 10 minutes late to his frist team meeting in 1982.
Nothing else is going to do it.
Well . . . maybe a few Arizona State players on steroids, but nothing besides that.

Robbie Bosco heads might work.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:41 AM ^
Only on Zurbrugg.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:57 AM ^
True. Plus Bosco beat Utah every time he played them so that's probably not a face they want to remember anyway.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:25 AM ^
It's because he chose Kaep over Smith after he returned from a concussion and promptly made a run to the Super Bowl. First the magazine deal and now this? Utes be scared.

I still don't get it...

Checked a Utes blog...
and they don't really get it either.
August 30th, 2015 at 1:59 PM ^
When they talk about BYU, Ute fans seem to be a lot like Sparty fans talking about Michigan. If the Wolverines win this game, their comment fields in the Salt Lake Tribune are going to be funny.
August 30th, 2015 at 12:33 PM ^
Harbaugh did Alex Smith dirty when he went with Kap. Smith is a former Ute.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:08 PM ^
...I get their point, but I don't see how this display would affect Harbaugh in anway.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:26 AM ^
haunting harbaugh with examples of qb mediocrity?
August 30th, 2015 at 12:10 PM ^
Say . . . that would freak him out.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:27 AM ^
I don't get it.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:30 AM ^
Don't we wish we had even a serviceable backup qb, like Smith is/was? Since it appears to the nation we don't have even one qb. I don't know the full meaning behind it. I think we are overthinking and analyzing. It's supposed to be fun, guys. We're having fun!

Is that what it's supposed to mean? Because I also don't get it.
August 30th, 2015 at 11:21 AM ^
I doubt that's it because Utah also doesn't have a QB as good as Alex Smith.
Maybe because Alex Smith was a Urban Meyer player? That's still not good, but I don't know what part of this would haunt Harbaugh.
August 30th, 2015 at 5:37 PM ^
Alex Smith went to Utah. Harbaugh dumped Smith for Kaepernick. Smith had a better year than Kaepernick last year. That's how I interpret it. That doesn't mean it's that clever.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:28 AM ^
It's clever. It's what college football is all about. I love it. This doesn't bunch my panties and doesn't add fuel to my fire.

It really isn't clever though. It would be much more clever if Smith was a great qb before harbaugh but after harbaugh he sucked. Instead it is the opposite. Saying anything about alex smith is pretty much a compliment to harbaugh.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:45 AM ^
True. I'd appreciate it if it was clever or even fun. It doesn't even come close to CFB craziness and fun. And the tweet reads more like satire.
August 30th, 2015 at 11:03 AM ^
Exactly. I'm not sure as to what psychological advantage they think they'd gain from this either. Is this supposed to rattle Harbaugh? Who tries to rattle a coach? Especially one as oblivious to the irrelevant as ours.
August 30th, 2015 at 12:22 PM ^
Harbaugh is the Coach and he will not be playing. Wouldn't you attempt to rattle the actual PLAYERS? This is like trying to rattle the pitcher by screaming at the manager.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:44 AM ^
If by "clever" you mean "really confusing and weird", then I agree.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:44 AM ^
How is it clever? Haha, Harbaugh! Look at the shitty NFL quarterback that you helped overachieve! Freakin got em

This would make more sense if it was a Kaepernick fat head
August 30th, 2015 at 11:05 AM ^
This would have the makings of a really cool/weird rivalry.
Hopefully we don't forget this (bizarre?) affront whenever we next host the Utes.
August 30th, 2015 at 11:11 AM ^
other team. We could take Dave Brandon heads there and I wouldn't get the point but we could do it.
August 30th, 2015 at 12:59 PM ^
You can tell because I'm super duper clever, and I don't get it.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:29 AM ^
Utah has gone full-Dantonio.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:36 AM ^
Makes sense since Utah fans seem to be very sparty.
They're like neanderthals compared to the BYU fans I've interacted with.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:47 AM ^
I would imagine that the dynamic in the state of Utah between Utah and BYU is a lot like it is with MSU and Michigan . . . an inferiority complex with an ever-present chip on their shoulder.
They seem to have those disgruntlement skills down pretty well.
August 30th, 2015 at 12:41 PM ^
You should generalize some more.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:50 AM ^
Everyone knows you don't go full Dantonio.

August 30th, 2015 at 10:35 AM ^
They realize he fixed him and made him into what he is today right? Until Harbaugh, Smith was a huge bust. Coached by none other than Meyer.

Smith was great in college under Urban.
He was just not good again until working under Harbaugh.
Also, NFL good >= college great, so Smith's career supports the idea that Harbaugh is >= Urban with QBs. Given OSU's recent plug-and-play success, that's something to be happy about.
August 30th, 2015 at 1:31 PM ^
Did you watch Smith in college?

Deep inside, he loves it. He loves all this crazy CFB shit.
That's why he's here.

"Going to go out on a limb and guess Harbaugh gives zero fucks."
If that's not related to a medical problem then it's certainly perplexing, and either way it must be quite a frustration for poor Sarah.
August 30th, 2015 at 2:06 PM ^
Harbaugh probably barely even remembers who Alex Smith is. He's got way more important things to think about.
August 30th, 2015 at 10:35 AM ^
I'm running in circles like a dog that don't know where to pee ..
Inside Michigan football w/ Caoch harbaugh on Ch 7 right now but I cant start thread.
