Early opportunity at some Nike gear

Submitted by Maize in Cincy on

A seller on ebay is selling off a collection from a former assistant equipment manager, including a lot of old (but brand new) Nike gear.  Here is a link just to the Nike stuff.  Some stuff is priced very well, others not so much. You can make offers though, I was able to get a sweatshirt for a fair price.  He has a price set up for each auction that he will automatically accept so don't use the buy it now right away.  Hopefully a few of you will be interested in this.  I have no part in these sales, just trying to help.

I used to work (remotely) for a large medical device company in Blue Ash, OH.  It's a nice area and I had a chance to move there but I  just couldn't get myself to do it (because it's in Ohio).  I truly couldn't imagine putting Ohio license plates on my car.  I considered trying to live in Kentucky but that was just a little too far.

Yesterday I rocked my blue fitted with maize M, Nike swoosh on the side and Michigan printed on the back. My director thought I had some new Nike gear but it is my same hat from years ago.

a scroll through that collection makes it clear that--at least from an aesthetic standpoint--Nike design is in no way intrinsically superior to Adidas. It's a dog-eat-dog world, and I am happy if Michael Jordan and Nike snag us one or two more great players. But tribal war over branding is just dumb.

I'm not even sure what you're talking about at this point.

Point being, your comment that, "Nike design is in no way intrinsically superior to Adidas", cannot be concluded because you're comparing things 20+ years apart and using the design of either as evidence of a conclusion you can't possibly make with that evidence.

How can you look at 90's Nike gear and conclude that they don't exceed the Adidas brand gear and declare they are equal? Why don't you post some 90's Adidas gear and make the comparison? Even if you did, our eyes and tastes would be somewhat skewed because of style changes. Besides that, isn't this awfully subjective when we are talking aesthetic appearance?

because you or the first person to respond doesn't does not change what my post actually SAYS, which is--simply--that Nike gear can in no way be rigorously be described as better. Maybe you guys are young and can only see it from a latter-day perspective; that's not my problem. Nor does it change what my post said.

Read it again--I think you'll get it.

And just to address your next argument, OF COURSE a lot of the slavish anti-Adidas BS is about Nike being better cumulatively. A great deal of it talks about "going back," etc. (There was a reason we left, of course.)

You're absolutely right that it's about taste; I said that above. (That's the "just not provable" part.) That's the point.

Carl Cohen really has set many generations of M grads on the road to more rigorous thinking, btw. Having the grey matter to begin with is critical, but all can be helped. :)

The gall of this guy, selling a cheap pair of replica shorts for $134 and calling them  "Authentic Fab 5" shorts.  Nike didn't make the Fab Five-era uniforms.  (And their shorts were just a tad longer.)

Dang it - I got him down to a price that I was willing to pay (just checked my email), and someone bought it for the full price before I could get to it.

I can't tell if this guy was super savvy to hang on to this old, new Nike stuff, or if we are stupid for thinking a bunch of crap from the 90s is worth three times what it cost at the time. Maybe both?
