He bolted in the middle of camp (after enrolling early) because the other QB in his recruiting class (Sam Darnold) is significantly better so far and he didn't want to be on a depth chart behind him and a sophomore who was the #1 QB in his class (Max Browne).
No one at SC is upset about him leaving.

Martell playing at USC would be a big departure from their normal QB prototype. Martell is about 5'11", 180 lbs. He seems like a Johnny Manziel clone, so I think he's a good fit there at TAMU. I also didn't see him as a fit at Michigan.

We had 0 crystal balls and were not even in the discussion lately. I don't know anyone who considered Martell a likely commit.

With Harbaugh, we're going to be in a lot of "Top 5s" for quarterbacks. You might start punching walls when we lose out to kids and we're in their top 2.

That's two five-star QBs in two years for them. Kyler Murray from Allen, TX is a freshman this year at A&M.

It's actually 3 in 4 years. Martell is in the 2017 class (just going into his junior year of high school) but Kyle Allen who won the job last year as a true freshman was a 5-star in the 2014 class.
