Jibreel Black to visit

Submitted by brendandavis22 on

Per Helmholdt Black will be in for a visit mid January. He is going to visit Cincinnati, Indiana and Michigan State as well. I have a feeling this class is going to change by 4-5 players before all is said.

I agree that this could be an interesting final month, especially with our class filling up and we being in on so many recruits as well. Definately think that we'll be finishing strong, but with whom and how many is yet to still be determined.

Why do people think there will be 4-5 changes. I think RR has made a point to recruit guys who won't waiver on their commitment like last year going as far as not letting them commit until they visit UofM. I'm not saying there won't be a decommit, I just don't think it will be as prominent as last year.

It has also been clarified to Hankins that there is only one more spot. It seems as if RR is willing to take the best player available at a position of need (MLB, DL or OL) as can be seen by his most recent recruiting (Taylor, Black, Donnal...etc.)

I also believe that RR has realized how much each move he does is scrutinized, so he will refrain from having a Peace situation. Overall I think there will only be one to two more players added that we don't expect, depending on what happenes with Parker. Hopefully he does choose UofM over USC.

I think that you've misunderstood me on this one. I don't necessarily think that we'll have a Peace situation, but my statement is more about just who might be the final recruits we take in and just how many we will be taking in. It seems like the going number is 29, what with 4 of the EE counting towards last year's class. But will we take a few more above this what with some recruits possibly being non-qualifiers? I haven't heard anything specific on this all, so I am assuming, no we wont but with the info TomVH posted in a different thread about Tony Drake having not even scheduled his ACT yet, it has become a bit disconcerting to say the least. I can only imagine what the coaching staff thinks about this all though.

I agree with everything you said but here are the two reasons why I think there is change to come:

1) We're talking about 17-18 years kids. As much as we would love to think that every kid who has given us a verbal up to this point is coming to AA is crazy.

2) Academics (not qualifying). Not much to say here, it is just a fact and something that happens to every school/coach.

Do you think RichRod, in the past, has recruited players who he thought were likely to waiver in their commitments? I'm pretty sure that RichRod never sought players who would waiver, and to the extent that we had Graves and Jones last year, I think he offered them only because there were few other options.

I do think that there will be a couple of guys who don't end up signing with us. First, there's always the academic concern, and on top of that, who is to say that all our commits really want to be here?

Maybe my view is biased because, honestly, I'm really hoping for a flurry of higher rated players to close out the class.

Yup. It's likely that one or two guys aren't going to qualify and one or two others are going to decommit, and entirely new names are going to fill the spots. Let's just hope the decommits and non-qualifiers are not at the top end of our class.

i agree with you, since i already witnessed two guys who were 4-stars decommit last year, so there will be a few guys who decide to leave. i would like to see donnal and black instead of wilson and hankins, but i'll take either combination, as long as we get parker. and the two scholerships taken up by grimes and his buddy murphy are being cumbersome right now, but as we all know, there is no way grimes comes to AA without murphy. or is there?

Scout has Mr. Black listed as a 4 star DT. Rivals has him listed as a 3 star DE. At 6'2" 253 lbs and a 40 time of 4.8 secs (Rivals #s), this kid seems like he would be a good candidate for DE or potentially one of the hybrid spots. Does anyone know what we are recruiting him as?
