What we really need though is for Arizona to choke today. Who knew back in the middle of the season, the Lions were doing themselves a favor by losing to the Rams. Without the Rams would be guaranteed to have the 1st pick.

..about the year the Kitties won their last game and blew a chance to draft Julius Peppers. Peppers could have changed the fate of the entire franchise.
TB is playing hard to save their coach's job. I don't know WTF they are doing in Cleveland. I would really be laughing if the Rams somehow beat the Cards. Suh would be a nice pick; I just don't know if having two players make so much money would work out well for the rest of the team.

There's no cap this season. If the Lions front load the contract then the balance might be more reasonable for the remaining seasons.

As it stands now there is no cap, but that may change before the season actually starts. I don't know if I like the idea of no salary cap. In fact, I don't like it. The lions will most likely get screwed over because teams like Dallas and New England will dominate the free agent markets, just like NY in baseball. I could be wrong, of course. I guess we will see soon enough.

If he did, I don't think he ever showed it in the NFL. I knew drafting him was a mistake from the moment I first heard about it. (Admittedly I thought he was going to be a journeyman/backup instead of a complete bust, but still.)
Rogers definitely had talent, though, and briefly tantalized all seven of us remaining Lions fans before he broke his collarbone the first time and smoked his way out of the league.

remember mel kiper had williams as his #1 player overall...and that was after he sat out an entire year....

Wide receiver is a relatively risky position to draft in the NFL. A lot of guys seem to have trouble learning how to run routes properly and play against NFL-caliber defensive backs. They try to get by on their speed and just can't play at a high level.
Then he sat out for a year. Not only was he not getting more experience at Southern Cal, it suggested a guy who was far more interested in getting a paycheck than he was in getting better as a football player. Nothing wrong with liking money, but it's not a good sign in a team sport. On top of that, there's the question of what he did to keep in shape, etc.
Finally, I thought he might have benefitted from the system he was in. USC has a system with a high-powered offense and enough talent that it can mask deficiencies in some of its star players. For example, look at Ike Hilliard from Florida. He also played in a high-powered system with lots of talent under Spurrier. He was drafted seventh overall by the Giants, but although he had some good seasons he was never really more than a good #2 receiver.
I never expected Williams to be a bust, but I thought he'd end up more like Ike Hilliard than Calvin Johnson. If the Lions had drafted him in the third round, or even the second, I guess I wouldn't have complained.

Yeah I don't trust Mel...atleast we didn't draft Stafford who was #1 on Mel's board and give him some insane contract that would make him the richest Rookie ever...I mean we took Curry because we wanted to build our team and then take a qb this year or next year when he would have a chance to thrive...I hate my life sooo much right now...if I wasn't a Yankee fan I would have jumped off a bridge by now.

I feel you on your point A_MAIZE_ZING, but we have needed a franchise qb for awhile now, give stafford a chance I think he's better then anyone in last years or this coming years draft. I also think LB is the one position we are legit at.

He's going to the Rams. 1 win team, playing with a backup RB and third string QB today... against the Cardinals.
And next week they play San Fran - another game they should lose.
You'll have to pray that they do something stupid like taking Bradford #1 overall.

I'm not saying they will take a QB, but they really need one. I'm just hoping and praying that Bradford's shoulder heals in time so that he can impress on his pro day.

I'd say it's more impossible than possible.
They'll either take Suh or trade down to take Bradford later. No way any NFL GM is dumb enough to pay a QB #1 overall $$$ when they could get him later.
Detroit, Tampa Bay, KC, and Oakland all have either money tied up in a QB or have recently used a 1st round pick on one (or both). Cleveland could reach but it's highly unlikely.
Really only Seattle and Buffalo pose a large threat to take Bradford. So if StL really wanted him, they could trade down to the 5th/6th pick and take him.
(and clearly there is a risk no one would trade with you, but if you offered the #1 straight up for the #5 straight up, and that team really wanted Suh - they'd do it. Looks like the Rams make a mistake, but the money they would save on Bradford would easily be worth it)

But the Lions would probably be better served to trade the pick--to save money (too many top 5 picks on the team) and to pick up extra choices to help fill holes.
IIRC, Seattle and SF both will have 2 first rounders this year...I think SF (who stresses Defense) wouldn't mind trading a #11 or so and their 2nd rounder and some more picks (maybe next year's #1) for the #2 pick to go up and get Suh, Gerald McCoy or Berry.

Another guy they could take is Okung from Oklahoma State who as of now is the top rates OT, but I would only want them to do that if they are 100% sure he is a top notch LT prospect, because as we've seen so far from Gosder 1st round OT dont mean they will start, even for us. I would like to see Eric Berry in Detroit, you can develop space eaters(DT) its alot harder to develop elite safies. I think if the front office see's Okung as a great LT prospect we could defidently go with him, unless we have the #1 pick maybe, and i think he would make the offense VERY good.

The highlight of my week will be hearing Terry Foster on the "Valenti and Foster Show" go off about some dude who was predicting that Stanton would be the next Tom Brady... I thought Foster had a heart attack when he said it! Drew Stanton was yet another wasted pick by Matt Fucking Millen.
