Another Gut??
Rarely does Brian step out on a limb on recruiting, mostly he sorts thru the noise for us to give us a reasonable guess, but he made a drive by on the board last night on his way out of town and gave a favorable S. Parker vibe. Let's see if Brian has the same mad vibes as Sam Webb's gut. Stay Tuned.
It is interseting I think we've been selling this playing time gig so hard in the secondary, it's going to look like a high school party where they say a bunch of girls are going to be there and it ends up a sausage fest with 15 dudes sitting around drinking beer and playing Sega(yes Sega I'm old)
"Hi Im Vlad I'm here for the early playing time"
"Carvin.. you too??, I just spoke to Ray and he was here for the same thing"
"How many safeties they play here at Michigan?"
"Dudes... Sean Parker up in the house looking for PT"
"Uh huh get in line Cali boy"
"Who are you"
"T. Gordon you can call me flash"
"Aw shit here comes a dad"
"Naw it's just me M. Williams"
May the best man win and not get shredded by a boot leg to the TE or a bomb on 3rd and 25.

If Parker and Grimes both commit, which seem to be likelihoods at this point, I count either 9 or 10 defensive secondary players enrolling in the 2010 class. Add that to Turner, Gordon and Emilien playing increased roles, and Michigan will be spoiled for choice in the secondary.

I'm really looking forward to our special teams next year.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 AM ^
No kidding. Imagine if Brandon Smith was coming back too.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:44 AM ^
With how many DBs it looks like we are going to take, this will help us out next year as well. Obviously some will redshirt and come into play for 2011 as frosh.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:15 AM ^
I'll take the sausage fest if it means we're deeper at a position the dearly needs it. I'm sure a lot of those guys will be redshirting and so they wont be in direct competition for playing time right away.
But with the way things are going with the latest attrition at those spots, all these recruits committing is the shot in the arm we need for next year.

I'll take the sausage fest

Touche

Carvin Johnson is well aware that Marvin Robinson committed, and I doubt Sean Parker is afraid of Ray Vinopal. I don't think the sausage fest will scare any of them.

and avoid more transfer issues. I'm very happy with the recruiting the coaches have done in the secondary.
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:13 PM ^
the one problem, if there is one, is that with an abundance of recruits for few positions, some may inevitably transfer.
i just hope we can keep all these guys for 4-5 years. having them transfer after 2 years wont do anything for depth.
with all that being said, with all the lottery tickets we have, our secondary will be something special soon enough.
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:22 PM ^
that it is ok to have depth on a football team...although after the past two years I can understand that the concept seems foreign in Ann Arbor...

the merrier!
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:29 AM ^
It's been a long time since we've been able to look forward to our secondary....we should be able to in a few years.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:43 AM ^
they form like voltron, and vinopal is the head
the good voltron with the lions, not the one with the boats and planes and cric just yelling nonsense.
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:59 PM ^
meant by the good one. when i put my pic up i was showing an example of the bad one.... when people talk voltron the frist thing that pops into their head is the lions, so i was trying to help people out by putting up a pic of the other one.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:41 AM ^
is enough depth to redshirt blue-chip recruiters
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:57 AM ^
and I would like to see how many 3* and up secondary players teams like OSU have on their roster. I'm sure it is something like ours.
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:51 AM ^
Once bitten, twice shy and we've been bitten twice, what do you say to that, fogetaboutit!? No, I'm still at the looking forward to looking forward stage...
December 22nd, 2009 at 11:53 AM ^
Marvin's name has been thrown around as a LB, a lot of teams run the spread right now so that hybrid position is going to be huge. I think the days of having 6-3 240 lb linebackers is over for the most part since you need to have speed all over the place.
I for one love the fact the we now have talent and may be getting more talent in our seconday. We have always had the stud cornerback and the guy waiting to take over there but safety has been our problem and we are on our way to fixing that.
But these are all young untested guys who have to grow up fast and Rich Rod doesn't have time on his side and needs to win now.
December 22nd, 2009 at 3:29 PM ^
Remember Miami and Nebraska from the '90s? They were throwing 6'1, 6-2, 200-220 lbs linebackers at people in droves. I think now, more than then, with all the "spreading the field" stuff, this can come into play again.

Brian's drive-by?
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:36 PM ^
"Sean Parker" thread. Brian was apparently working on it already as it's front page now.
December 22nd, 2009 at 1:01 PM ^
It was on a forum therad about 3 pages back simple titled "Sean Parker". Other Brian made a comment and Brian responded about ther being good news on his recruitment or seomthing to that effect.

My DB wishes for 2010:
1) Safety recruit M. Robinson switches to LB and starts at SAM as a true frosh
2) Redshirt Freshman Turner starts at CB
3) True Freshman C.Christian starts at CB
4) T. Woolfolk moves back to FS
5) Vlad / M. Williams fight it out for starting Strong Safety - Kovacs in at SS for run support situations
6) Safety/LB recruit Furman redshirts and takes over WLB in 2011 after Mouton graduates
7) Grimes / Floyd / T. Jones for CB depth
8) Parker for FS depth
9) Avery / Talbot / Vinopil / Carvin for Special Teams or Redshirts for 2011 depth
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:19 PM ^
start as a true frosh is FS. (for reference troy woolfolk plays SS in this defense, the roles are reversed)
i also think grimes would start over CC if they both came in at the same time.

Angry Michigan DB Hating God
Of course, at least this crew has potential. Before it was AMDHG and little hope for improvement. While we will be talented in the secondary (I'm so glad I can say this), we will experience some severe growing pains next year.
2010 DBs = 2009 QBs

is not selling guaranteed playing time and that he is selling the opportunity for playing time. These kids aren't blind. They can see how many players Michigan is going after. By committing, it shows that they are not afraid of the competition. That's the type of players we want.

I hoped this thread was going to be about the fallout from the Weis family Thanksgiving dinner w/ speculation about the Christmas feast.
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:17 PM ^
I thought it was a Boren thread.
