Regents approve $15M U-M Golf Course Clubhouse
What was originally presented at the regents meeting in May but was thrown out with no action being taken, Hackett came back and got the new U-M Golf Course Clubhouse approved in his second attempt.
Here are renderings of the Richard L. Postma Family Clubhouse at U-M Golf Course. Work is scheduled to begin in November and conclude a year later around the same time of construction.
Was his 2nd go around simply him walking in with the artistic renderings... saying "Nike, bitches!"... dropping the mic and walking out?
I think he just said "169", but he did wear the crown I hear.
Is this out of the AD budget? I assume so if Hackett presented.
It came from the Stephen Ross budget
Regardless of which budget it came out of, $15 mil is a huge waste... I agree that the facilities needed an update, but the reason that 75% of golf courses fail is because they overspend on the clubhouse, mostly because they expect some big payback from the outings, weddings, restaurant etc... I don't think the UM course will fail, but it certainly won't go down as a good investment.
Not to be a downer - and I'll accept my negging - but my family has been in the golf biz for decades and this is the reality.
Nevermind - I see from the article its from the AD budget and gifts. The later being the operative I assume.
When will they expand the football stadium!? I want more fans!
If they decide to......not until they're done with this huge line of building projects which will be complete in 2019 at the latest.
The final piece of this wave of construction is a new arena to replace Cliff Keen.
But I want a bigger stadium NOW! As big as Bristol Speedway. I want somewhere close to 150,000.
You trolling ball of fluff.
I'm not trolling.
No, you're just overbearing...
I know, I know, it's not a bear

Yes, I'm a marsupial as you humans classify it. I will admit that I resemble a small bear.
Is is because you want them to grow eucalyptus hedges near the field so you can snack at halftime?
But I am afraid that the sparty mascot will also want to graze with you.
This^
After the next National Championship ought to do the trick. Give it a couple of years or so.

You'll get nothing and like it!
I'm not paying 50 cents for no Coke!
Is huge assuming they actually get one of the University's liquor licenses now. They currently leave so much money on the table
Aren't they also planning to renovate one of the holes too?
The bar area looks like pf changs

dollar club house and slow the pace of tuition increases. WTF
These changes have been in the works for awhile. And yes, they have had plans drawn to redo the entire course and go back to the original numbers (hole 9 used to be 18). They switched the front and back. The course lays out better currently and what is hole 18 now is more scenic than 9.
Fun fact: The Tee on 18 is the highest elevation point in Ann Arbor.
Your fun fact is actually not true. The highest elevation point is actually at 805 Oxmoor in the back corner of the yard where our fire pit was when it was a fraternity house.

This is actually good to know because we had 2-3 designs for serving this building when they originally sent us the preliminary plans. Of course, all of them involve boring under W. Stadium from somewhere in the OSEH parking lot, so yeah.....not easy.
It does look cool, and this was much needed, I think.
was this the building that the Harbaughs lived in when Jack was first hired here? Jim mentioned living in an apartment (that could be anything with 4 walls) within one of the golf buildings in his introductory press conference.
I thought it was simply the basement of the golf building. It was just for a few weeks too iirc. If not then I blame the concussions for the memory loss
No rear balcony?
Still looks like a UM Health System office center rather than a golf clubhouse. Bummer.
Spot on. Left the same comment down below
Color me unimpressed. I haven't understood the insistence on designing every athletic facility like a corporate sponsored airport lounge. Think of the great tracks in America - part of a golf courses charm is the unique character of its clubhouse. It's how we remember them. The AD missed an nice opportunity to leave a distinctive stamp on UM's golf program, and instead basically built a hotel lobby bar.
It's hideous!
