Battle to Cuse Apparently Official
So he committed to a suspended coach on the verge of retirement and a school that has to vacate 12 scholarships over the next 4 years. That makes sense.
No he committed to be closer to home. Its still a great school all around despite the sanctions. Can't blame the kid who wants to be near his family.
Yessssss. The "Your ___ is a 'insert word used in previous comment here'" jokes. My favorites! I'm always on the lookout for a good time to throw one of those out. +1
I usually toss this stuff up to 'Crootin but this one bugs me more than most. The young man jumped the gun to grab a spot before Langford, then backs out for a school in a strange situation all while screwing us on Langford (who I liked better).
Were we ever really in it for Langford, I don't think we made his top 8 when he released it a while back.
That's contrary to what many say. I know Sam Webb has repeatedly said Battle committed when he did to step in front of Langford. Michigan had one spot for whoever wanted to commit first, and Battle took it. Webb hinted that Langford was very interested in Michigan and perhaps on the verge of committing, hence the action by Battle.
Wait so just to confirm, you like Langford better?
It's obvious what the determining factor was for his parents. Maybe 'Cuse deserves the "death penalty" for committing a major violation while on probation.
Doubt it. He's a pretty high priority for Coach Cal and if he doesn't end up a Wildcat, he'll almost assuredly be a Spartan given his Flint ties.

What was to stop Langford from committing to us when his announcement date came if this is where he wanted to be? Battle was already decommitted at that point.
Probably because the staff didn't keep recruiting him as hard when Battle committed as the number of spots at a given position are not infinite. What did you expect them to tell another 5 star, "Hey, we still want you so bad, epsecially if this guy decommits and we know he will?" What does a commitment mean anymore....NOTHING!

This and the fact that Battle's commitment being soft was a poorly kept secret at best.
If a nobody on the internet like me knows that he's still playing the field despite his commitment then surely Beilein and crew know that too.
And this isn't hindsight being 20/20 - the day Battle commited there was chatter about it not being very firm.
Per Seth today....
So that sucks. Michigan was hard after both Battle and similarly ranked (just outside top 10) Alabama SF Josh Langford, and Battle pulled the trigger in May when it appeared Langford was about to take that option away from him. Beilein apparently thought that decision was earnest enough that he cut off pursuit of Langford, who committed to Michigan State three days after Battle reopened his recruitment.
For pro teams I try to avoid "us", but I don't mind when people use it.
For college teams (especially if you are an alumn) "us" is perfectly reasonable. An example i if the team/university came down with some crazy flu right before a tourney game and had to field a team - guess who be playing? Some collection of students, whether it be the team managers, an IM champ team or some collection of students.
If you attended the school - you were on the depth chart.
That's not the context here, though. BigBlue02 is obsessed with me and thinks he has some type of evidence that I am a rival fan posing as a UM fan. Great example of why the MGoBoard should have an "ignore user" option.
I can count on two hands how many times I've been to the RCMB and had no idea they had an ignore option, as MANY message boards in all facets of the internet do. Funny how you have such an intimate knowledge of what goes on over there. Your own paranoid logic could be used against you.
You are a ravenous homer - period. Guys like you are beating their chest over Michigan defeating MSU in categories like ESPN.com headlines. Sorry that such blatant stupidity gets called out from time to time.

I actually have the same problem - I think of Syracuse and this game very quickly comes to mind and then memories of "Will someone PLEASE tackle that McNabb dude?". Combine that with the sting that this was coming off that 36-20 loss to Notre Dame the previous week (never mind coming off that magical year previous) so the sting was more pronounced, and it is hard to like them much after that.

I totally agree but I think anyone you have to scream DO NOT TWEET AT RECRUITS to is probably never going to stop tweeting at recruits.
Yeah, I'm going to guess that the 25-year-old mouthbreathers who sent shitty messages via social media to HS kids aren't the introspective type.
For all the benefits of social media and digital culture, it was nice growing up in an era where you could assume that people you met were generally good human beings and not semi-normal human beings in person who let loose their rage and hatred online behind the anonymity of dumb screennames.
Can I tweet at his dad and ask for a loan?
Obligatory.
I TOTALLY agree when it comes to those other losers but it's ok if tweet him isn't it? Afterall I have special thoughts and i'm quite upset so I'm sure it will be well recieved.
Signed,
All the people who actually DO tweet recruits.
this strikes me as a regrettable move. I genuinely hope he's happy with his decision a few years from now.
