More RR on WDFN
RR was on WDFN this morning(Larry Lage has some pull to get Leyland, Rodriguez and Izzo on to this rumdum morning show in 1 day). It is so frustrating with these idiots questioning RR, because they don't ask about the team they just want to talk about the studip scandals or QB's!!, but I give credit to Lage for finally asking a relevant question when he asked about the scholarships and all the spots filling up. RR explained they are filling up and that the final spots are passed out by need and players are told we're filling up we need an answer if you want to come. Killer then asked something stupid about "the drama" and the topic was lost so we really got no more explanation on numbers and needs other than RR saying we're signing a full 25 and we need defensive bodies for competition.
The only thing of note was that Warren and RR have not got their evaluations back yet from the NFL, so RR wished he would have waited for that. Reading between the lines, Warren was introduced to scumbag Rosenhous, who promised him the world and DW said I'm out where do I sign?? While I hate Rosenhous, and joking aside, he is plugged into the NFL so hopefully he got DW some good advice and didn't screw him.

I find it disgusting that people still want to rehash all of the negative shit when they interview RR, as if it is sine qua non for an RR interview. I would love to hear Saint Dantonio get grilled on the radio like RR does. I seem to remember the Saint being quite curt to a radio guy for a totally reasonable question a couple of months ago.
We might get a meltdown even better than those of Bob Knight if the Saint gets asked as many questions about the gang raid as RR has about the drama.

If Dantonio had to answer tough questions, his head would certainly explode. That guy could use some serious anger management. Maybe he could carpool with Winston?
That being said, I don't have a problem with RR getting grilled. We are (or were) one of the preeminent college football programs, which means we need to answer tough questions. Maybe Dantonio doesn't get the questions because no one really cares about him or his northern edition of the Hurricanes (minus the winning part).

I think Drew and Scott Boras are smart for taking advantage of greedy owners. But with the salary cap and non-guaranteed contracts in football, these agents are not as influential agents in baseball or even basketball. Why do you think the T.O. Show graced our TV sets? Because T.O. can't get a $100 million dollar contract.
Don't hate the agent, hate the owners giving out all that crazy cash and the advertisers and networks for putting some of your least favorite athletes on our screen all the time.

Boras has notoriety for getting his clients more money than they are expected to get. His draft picks always get way above slot and set records, his free agents set the market. He's found numerous loopholes in favor of his clients, they have to change the rules because of him. Quite simply the best agent for his players interest in sports, Rosenhaus is just a media whore with connections to the Miami area football machine, his claim to fame is a fake phone call 7 years ago that Bills have said repeatedly had no effect on their pick.

I don't hate him because he is a greedy slime dick. This country is still a little bit capitalistic so get what you want, I just don't like his whole greased up act. There are plenty of agents who get lucrative deals done like Leigh Steinberg who we don't have to see on Sportcenter every week yelling into the camera.

I don't know how that whole dance works with agents and contacting underclassmen, but Drew is his agent so I'm guessing he met him before yesterday when he announced and a good agent would have a lot of info for his client.

Based on DW's rankings I just researched on ESPN - he shows up as Kipers #2 Junior corner and ESPN Scouts Inc's 60th best player.
He's likely a late second / early third round pick.
I'm no NFL scout / general manager, but I wonder if leaving a year early for a late second / early third round pick makes sense? It seems like if he continued to improve he'd jump up to a late first / early second round guy next year. Of course Leon Hall was drafted mid-first round after his last year, so DW could have jumped that high if he stayed.
I think in the end, DW is not making a mistake. He's taking money off the table, but who knows - he could always suffer a terrible injury next year. Call it insurance.

The potential lockout in the 2011 season is what is driving the mass entry of juniors into the draft. They are being sold by agents that if they don't get in now, they may have to wait two years.

However my POV was more from a Michigan fan. I don't think anyone should make a decision based on a potential lockout. Those kids are getting sold down the river....

I've been bashed for saying this before, but I think he'll be a late first round or early second round pick. I think he's coming out this year because there isn't a ton of CB talent available. Even if he stayed and had a good 2010 season, he might not get higher as there would be more competition.
In any event, although our squad will suffer (holy shit our defense is going to be terrible...that spread better put up 40/game), I think it's a smart move for Warren.

I will simply disagree.
In order to be drafted in the first round a player has to be one of the best 32 players in the nation. In order to go in the first two rounds you need to be one of the 64 best (I know there are exceptions, but this is close to true).
With the number of underclassmen going in the draft this year I seriously think that DW will be a third rounder. Should that change his mind? I have no idea because I don't know what criteria he was using to make his choice.
All I do know is that he is leaving, so I will wish him all the best in the NFL and thank him for all his hard work over the past three seasons.

It's not necessarily being one of the 64 best--it could be being one of the best at your position--and the needs of particular teams.
NFL teams love good cornerbacks.

Larry Lage is really well-connected. You have to be when you're the top AP sports writer for the Detroit area. He's basically a walking rolodex. Not surprising he can get those kinds of guests on the show.
Nice guy, and one of the best at what he does.

I know we want to hear the coach speak more on recruiting, but they are restricted from discussing names (until they sign)--and therefore really can't discuss it that specifically. They can give numbers, I guess, but you're really not going to get much more than platitudes when it comes to RecruitTalk out of coaches for fear of breaking some goddamm rule somehwere down on page 11,398 of the NCAA Recruiting Manual.

The OP specifically mentioned recruitng and how that topic was lost.
Right now, the team really isn't progressing, except to find transportation home for winter break.
