OT: Jimbo Fisher bans players from going to bars
In an attempt to put out the dumpster fire that is the FSU program, Jimbo has prohibited all members of the football team from going to bars.

I could completely understand banning all players under 21, but that seems unfair to stop the legal age students. Good for Fisher for trying to change the culture, but he still looks like a joke. Instead of admitting that he needs to recruit higher integrity players, he comes up with this. None of Winston's antics involved bars...
EDIT: Winston's alleged rape saga started out at a bar. Jimbo must be right...it's all the bar's fault. No accountability needed to be had by him
Wouldn't it look a little silly to have a rule that states that no players under 21 can go to the bar? As if it would be okay if there weren't a team rule?
Um... it's not silly at all.. idk when you went to UM, but while I was there, the football, hockey and basketball teams (underage kids included) were at the bars/clubs around campus all the time...
It's not rare.
People really going to act shocked at underclassmen athletes getting bar/alcohol privileges in college?
LOL
Well hockey players should be exempt anyways. The Canadian ones that is
That's what I say when I go into Canada and break their laws
"YOUR RULES DON'T APPLY TO ME CANADA. I'M FROM AMERICA"
Because that's how laws work
I detect sarcasm. Anyways.. did you know if you are an American citizen that American laws apply to you no matter where in the world you are?
I should rephrase that. You are subject to American laws that pertain to criminal activities.
for Halibuton.
Huh? You're subject to the law of the land where you are.. Laws have something called jurisdiction. Smoking weed is a federal crime in the US. If you smoke in Amsterdam and US authorities find out you won't be extradited. Any US citizen that commits a crime in another country doesn't face charges in an American court. Why do you think underage American kids to Windsor (and Mexico) to drink.
http://www.justice.gov/criminal-ceos/citizens-guide-us-federal-law-extr…
Also, not facing charges doesn't mean anything about whether a law was broken or not.
I got a seatbelt ticket in Canada in 2001. Still won't pay it. I've been back to Canada many times since. At the time, you could not be pulled over for not wearing your seatbelt in Michigan.
I'm going to try that next time I'm north of the border.

What that's how laws work? Fuck. That's nuts man.
It's silly because going public with a rule that's identical to the law makes you sound ridiculous.
I'm assuming hitting someone at a bar is also against team rules, but I don't think Jimbo is going to start talking up his "don't punch people" policy, because he'd sound like an idiot.
Your coach states a rule that you can't go to a bar. The first thought in your head is?
Mine is, "No shit, Sherlock."
You have already made the decision to abide by or break this rule (and the law) many times over, as evidenced by your own post:
the football, hockey and basketball teams (underage kids included) were at the bars/clubs around campus all the time..
I bet they had been told not to do that, and yet, there they were.
What's next? Head Coach tells team in a meeting, "If you commit armed robbery, you will be dismissed from this program."
Considering it is perfectly legal to be in a bar, yes. It is okay if there's no team rule.
Not everyone in a bar is being served alcohol. The law states that your have to be 18 to be in the bars, not 21.
So I don't see the confusion. Any random 18 year old kid can go to any bar he wants. Why do you think it's not okay for a football player to do so?
Really, Jimbo should worry about recruiting players with a better background and attitude. When you're recruiting all these problem kids, do you really think they're going to listen to you when you say not to go to the bars?
when you go out at night, before you ever enter the bar.
You get carded to verify that you are at least 18. Not 21. You have to be at least 18 to enter, but 21 to drink.
That's why when you are carded at the entrance, they'll put a black "X" on your hand. To mark you as being between 18 and 20 years old so nobody serves you alcohol. Having just turned 21 4 months ago, I've experienced that treatment many times.
Also, not being a college athlete, it shows being in the bar under the age of 21 has nothing to do with being on the sports teams.
I've only seen that practice done at clubs, and even then only some. I'm 23 and over the last few years I've had several friends turned away at the door when trying to enter bars/clubs while over 18 but less than 21.
All the people I work with are over 21 and we would always go to the bar after work. Never have I been turned away. They gave me the black X at clubs and at bars, the waitress/bartenders just wouldn't serve me alcohol.
But it is not illegal to be in a bar or club under the age of 21. It could be to the discretion of that particular bar/club, but it is not against any law.
Uh yea, you're definitely wrong on this one. It may be a state law (in your state) but bars also enforce their own rules. Usually after a certain time, they'll start carding at the door for 21+. There were always a few that allowed 18+ or had 18+ nights, but it definitely wasn't the norm. Most bars don't even ID when you but drinks, because you've already been carded for 21+ at the door.

I agree with this. If you're not 21 you're not getting in, unless they aren't carding at all. At least anywhere I've lived.
I'm not wrong though, as I'm speaking from experience. I've been 18-20 years old and entered clubs and bars on a nightly basis with friends and co-workers. Being ID'd and everything. Still allowed in.
You say I'm wrong, then repeat what I said. There is no law that requires someone to be 21 years old to enter the bar or club. So it is not wrong for them to be there as the original comment suggests. I also said that it is at the discretion of that particular bar whether or not to allow 18-20 year olds in or not. So yes, bars do enforce their own rules. But it varies by bar.
So I suppose I should thank you for calling me wrong and then reenforcing what I just said.
It completely depends on the local laws, and they're unique more often than not. There are jurisdictions in Indiana where you can't sit at a high top table at an Applebees if you're under 21, and then there are places like Cincinnati and Chambana where clubs can let people in at 18-19.
This sentence right here:
Any random 18 year old kid can go to any bar he wants.
Is what's causing your problem. If you went to Michigan or lived in Ann Arbor you would know that it is not true.
This isn't going to work, football players find ways to party and that usually means a bar. This is going to backfire when Jimbo can't enforce it and when it causes the team to divide over those that follow the rule and those that don't.
Good luck with this Jimbo. The guy's a penile implant plain and simple.

Jildo?
with that one, Jimbo.
That should really help recruiting!
Yeah, that's going to work.
Tell a college football team that you can't go out and have a night on the town. Sure. Let me know just how that goes for you, Jimbo.
Interesting move. I would've started with banning them from punching women, but I guess thats why I'm not a head coach of FSU....
Let's not get crazy here. If it's at a bar there could be cameras which then forces that asshat to suspend his players (or kick off). If there isn't video evidence are we so sure that any punishment would've been executed?
New team rule:
No going to bars that have cameras.
Breaking News: FSU Player Punches Woman at House Party
That's it.
No more house parties.
That's it, women are off limits to FSU footbaaaawwwww players

OK, team rule, no punching women.
Ok that's just crazy talk. If the players are sober and think about their actions it should be ok.
THATS SARCASM before anybody gets worked up

no cameras
Ban fists? Or women?

This is absurd. What's next - prohibiting football players from going to classes?
i think they already did that at North Carolina.
Well done sir
yep, because a bar is the only possible place a woman can be punched by a man, glad we fixed that issue, on to the next one, let's fix world hunger!
There is food at the bar.
Let's send the hungry to the bars.
I'll give you this. That'll be more successful than Jimbo telling his players to stay out of the bars.
I've had the same thing happen to me as a player. I was Jimbo Fisher and my "player" was frequenting too many "random bars." It turned out as I am engaged and only crying alone every other night!

"None of Winston's antics involved bars." Thought the evening of the alleged rape started at the bar?
