OT: Batman vs Superman Comic-Con Trailer

Okay Zack Snyder... I'll give you a shot. That's saying a lot considering MoS was, let's just say, mediocre. 

Cons: 

Batman's parents' storyline getting old. 

Gal Gadot still kinda just there/out of place. 

Pros: 

Robin's dead

Superman cults and skeptics! 

Jesse Eisenberg's Luthor 

 

This trailer deff got me feeling a little bit more optimistic. Eisenberg's Luthor is looking very interesting for sure. Affleck is doing a good job pulling off another secluded Bruce Wayne like Bale did. 

I just hope it doesn't turn into another mess of destruction porn.

I was optimistic before the trailer. After seeing it, the whole thing just looks like a train wreck. It also seems like in order to cram that much into one movie it will need to be 4 hours long. Also, why does Alfred look the same age as Bruce Wayne?

Spider-man 3 is the first thing that came to mind. Just seems like they're trying to fit too many storylines into a single film.

I think the core conflict will be interesting, but I'll be surprised if the elements that are there to set up future movies (Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc.) don't feel shoehorned in.

Agreed. I know that the dark knight saga and the DCCU is wholly separate. However, I feel that the DCCU would have been better if it was connected to the Nolan's Dark Knight. Marvel did a great job with the long game of their cinematic universe. I even excuse them for not including Ant Man and Hank Pym in the original Avengers.

Then don't watch them? People make a huge deal about comic book movies being over saturated and I don't get it. There are a grand total of three out this year I believe. Next year is a busy year and I think it goes up to a half dozen. And every year after that will be about the same. That's one comic book movie every two months or so on average. How many romcoms come out each year? Or action movies? I don't go to theaters much anymore, but I personally enjoy comic books and I like to see the movies based on them in theaters. I'm certainly not going to get tired of seeing the movies. If anything, now that both of the big dogs are putting universes together there will only be more new stories to tell instead of seeing the same batman and spider man stories.

I'll certainly see the movie (unless it gets "Batman & Robin" reviews), but this trailer did nothing for me. It only reminded me that 1) Wonder Woman is in it (you already have to introduce a new Batman and Lex Luthor, don't push it), and 2) Jesse Eisenberg is Lex Luthor (I am not down with this).

This is certainly better than the first trailer. Believe it or not, I loved Man of Steel until the 6th time I watched it when I could suddenly pick out every mistake. It was kind of like watching a Transformers movie at that point, but without the shitty attempts at humor. (Obligatory: Fuck Michael Bay)

You know... the first few times you watch a movie, you get distracted by the awesome visuals and general euphoria of actually being able to watch it... then you watch it over and over and realize that it's full of plot holes everywhere and that the characters just aren't that great. 

MoS is an example of this. Here are others. 

Inception

Dark Knight Rises 

Dexter (applies to TV shows as well) 

Star Trek 2 

Transformers 1 etc.

I liked the fight scenes in MoS. The visual effects were amazing. But the origin story was quite dull to be honest. It just took way too long to get into it and did nothing to capture my interest. Batman Begins was a little like that as well, but it wasn't as long, and far more interesting. This trailer piqued my interest a little because I'm starting to figure out why Batman and Superman are fighting in the first place. The story seems frustratingly dark, yet fascinating.

I have never read a single marvel or DC comic, so this whole thing is very confusing to me.

It's happened a handful of times. Read the Dark Knight Returns. That's where this is being taken from, in large part. In the book, it was because Batman was a loose cannon and was kind of a spark to starting a gang of vigilantes and the President sent Superman to put a stop to it. In this movie, it looks reversed, and Batman is the balance to Supes.

It has potential, I'll give it that.  Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the Snyder style visually, especially the color pallate of dark grey on rainy grey, but this is a story that hasn't been told in the other comic book movies, really.  

Yes, you have Thor and the Hulk as super-charged lifeforms, but Superman is on another level and has a certain type of iconography that can't be matched.  He's this creature with a very human past, who could snap his fingers and take over the world, and who has typically been portrayed as a light allegory for a Christ-like figure (MoS felt about as overly religious as you could get away with without just changing his initials to JC).  And then you have this real human superhero in Batman, a guy with a past that, along with Spiderman, really is about as definitive and intertwinned with the character as can be.  And he is almost the polar opposite compared to Superman in terms of how his life has been portrayed recently; he is just a nihlist who relies only on himself, who is driven by a sense of "right" that seems intensely personal.  Of course he'd want to stop Superman; Batman ultimately hates the unknown, the potential for unintended death and destruction, and Superman embodies an uncontrollable storm.  

I get a sense this movie will be a bit of a mess, but it looks like it has some good bones to build from.  Introducing Wonder Woman and Aquaman (I believe) feels unnecessary, but who knows.  But that last shot, of Batman standing on top of the wrecked Batmobile with a "IDGAF" look on his face while Superman stares him down, is pretty bad ass.
