Your favorite Michigan Replay episodes

Submitted by Dave98 on

My top 3:

2002 Washington (I get chills every time I watch the Brabbs kick going in with Beckman on the call)

2003 Notre Dame (This is classic Michigan Replay dialogue between Lloyd and Brandy plus a 38-0 shutout of ND)

2003 Minnesota (It was awesome to see Lloyd celebrating in the Metrodome locker room)

It's mostly the Carr era for me, since I was too young to remember Bo and Mo.

I seem to remember the Moeller episodes always being super awkward. Great coach, but the guy made Lloyd look like Dick Vitale across from Brandy.

I would also buy a box set of the Michigan Replay music, as in the stuff played behind the highlights and such.

There were also a set of Michigan Replay highlight tapes for every season from 1988 through 1992 or 3, and they're all great. The 1988 one gets hauled out just about every year right before the season. I've damn near worn out the tape, and it's not on YouTube anymore.

Yeah. IIRC, it was all done by Larry Santos, a kind of Detroit music legend whose music we all heard every single day back then without knowing it. Ad jingles, radio promos, all sorts of stuff. He had a real big one with McDonald Rentals, if you remember those commercials that ran for years. He did all the Michigan Replay music, and was the guy who sang that cheesy song about Bo the retrospective VHS Michigan Replay put out. Kind of a gruff, almost Seger-esque type effort.

for Michigan Replay---living on the west side of the state, I've never seen that or most of the other TV spots they did to promote the show over the years.  Thanks for posting that!

What show through in those 30 seconds is that Bo never let Brandy---or any of his players, for that matter---forget that he was always the one in charge, always their coach.  And they loved him for that.

Loved the interview with John Navarre, and the bit with Braylon glad about sending him off with a win.

Also seeing Perry abuse the OSU defense never gets old

1979 play of the century against IU:

"And Bo is looking up at Fielding H Yost in football's Valhalla and saying, thank you Fielding Yost, thank you Fieldng Yost for that one"

Bo (knowing full well, I'm sure): "What is a Valhalla?"

The extended call is best. You here Ufer talking about a Michigan player "fumbling" a ball out play and IU's coach (lee Corso) goes nuts on the sideline.

Then there is an encroachment penalty against IU. The clock gets reset and Ufer makes a comment about it being the fastest 15 mins of football (while the clock is being reset from 0:05 to 0:06)

Lee Corso is STILL butthurtabout that after all these years later.  Last time Gameday was on campus and I flew in for UTL1, we were heckling him about it from behind the set.  Security told us we had to knock it off.

right..... it would be to bring back Michigan Replay with all the music, format, etc..  It was always must see TV every week during football season back in the day.  The Inside Michigan football show right now is a trainwreck and I have no interest in watching it.

Anybody remember when they did Michigan Replay episodes for basketball during the early 90s? I only remember it happening a few times, but it was pretty weird/cool.

Sanctions made the season a big waste. No one remembers individual games in bball. Actually they finished 4th in the big ten best finish of the 2000s and they probably would have made the tourney. Wonder how that would have changed Amakers career at Michigan

For as much as its loss is bemoaned, Michigan Replay wouldn’t be the same. It used to be the first time you could see extensive highlights. Now, you could relive any play you want a hundred times by Sunday morning through DVR and the internet.
