OT(?): Top of the Park kicks off tonight

Submitted by WichitanWolverine on

Wanted to both post a reminder and ask a few questions about Top of the Park, which kicks off tonight.

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I've never been to Top of the Park, despite having lived off and on in Ann Arbor for 10 years. Planning on checking it out tonight. I'm on their website and really not finding much info. Hoping you guys and gals could help.

-Are the outdoor performances (Acoustic and North U stages) free to the public? If not, can you buy tickets there?

-Most importantly, I've heard you can bring your own alcohol in. Can anyone confirm that?

Thanks in advance.

Same here. I have lived in the AA area my whole life and have never been.

I am thinking of taking my pre-school age boys, can anyone recommend if this is a good idea?

The first time I went to TotP was to bring my preschool son.  We had a blast.  We walked around, listened to a little music, bought ice cream, and stayed and ate popcorn and watched School of Rock on the outdoor screen.  He roughly remembers the movie now almost nine years later, but I sure remember it.  I had a great time exploring AA with him.

I'm going to miss spending the summer at U of M. I know I shouldn't complain about living in California, but Ann Arbor truly is a special place, and Top of the Park is a ton of fun. Outdoor music is free and nay on bringing your own alcohol. They usually have a beer/wine tent set up at North U, which is a good time.

Hey, we're not all shitty, vapid people, that's just LA.   The rest of the stuff you're right about though; you also forgot wildfires, earthquakes, and mudslides.

Still worth though, seeing as I can play golf in November and be on the beach in February.

Free music, no BYOB, but there's a beer garden and food vendors. The vibe is righteous. Stop by Ray's Red Hots and treat yourself to a Polish, Chicago style on a toasted bun.

Music is MOSTLY free. Anything at the Power Center has a price tag.

Movie lineup is fantastic. I'll be going to almost all of them.

Not byob.

Ha, that marked summer for me for a long time. Now I can't shake the feeling that if I live somewhere where you can't watch a movie outside and BYOB, it's not really summer.
