I too am excited at the prospect of Missouri joining even though I'd rather have Pitt. I'm from Saint Louis and so naturally 90% of my family and friends are Mizzou fans. Couple that with their upswing and our downswing the past couple years and you have one really pissed of Michigan fan (me). I would love for Missouri to join the Big Ten and be average at best. I also like the idea of them being bottom of the barrel academically. Revenge is a dish best served cold my friends.

So if Missouri joins, we can call ourselves the Big 12, right? We'd have 12 members and the conference formerly known as the Big 12 would become the new Big "Ten".

Looking strictly at the overall numbers, you can make a solid case for Missouri over Pitt, and the carefully vague statement by Mizzou's chancellor indicates the willingness to listen to an overture. I've been very skeptical that Missouri will eventually make the decision to leave the Big 12 and remain so, but I guess that it doesn't seem as unlikely to me as it did before. The question I have is what is the nature of Missouri's dissatisfactions with the Big 12, and what the Big 12 might want to do in order to remedy those dissatisfactions. The article mentions just bowl selections, and I've read about problems with the revenue arrangement in the Big 12 as well. Maybe it comes down to how badly the conference wants Missouri to remain. If it sends the message to Missouri to go pound sand, then the chances of leaving go up dramatically.
