Baseball at Louisville: NCAA Louisville Regional

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

After pounding regional 2 seed Bradley yesterday, 10-5, Michigan has a much more difficult task today.

Michigan will play regional host Louisville who is the No. 3 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. The game is expected to have a crowd of over 6,000 as Louisville's game last night against Morehead State had that many.

Bradley won the early game today 9-4, eliminating Morehead State and advancing to the second elimination game.

This certainly isn't the first time this Michigan team has faced steep odds. In the B1G Tournament, they knocked off #4 Illinois who had won of 27 of their previous 28 games.

Michigan is arguably the hottest team in the nation right now. Let's see if they can duplicate the magic of the 2007 Nashville Regional where they upset 1 Vanderbilt to win it.

First pitch is at 4pm.

Game is on ESPN3.

Lightning strike and this game will go to weather delay in the Top of the 2nd.

Since this is the last game of the day at Louisville, they will keep trying until midnight to get the game in.  As long as it has resumed by midnight, they will play.  If they can't finish it today, they will resume it at noon tomorrow, followed by the two regularly scheduled games for Sunday.

They have until midnight on Tuesday to declare a winner; after that, they will award the regional to the highest-seeded undefeated team.  As far as I know, that has never happened.

Games can not be shortened; every game has to go 9 innings.

I think they would delay it the same amount of time, but they would have to rearrange the schedule for tomorrow, because a team is only permitted to start 2 games in one day, so that would push the first championship game from Sunday at 4 to early afternoon on Monday.

Really the key rules are (1) you aren't supposed to start a game after midnight, but a game started before midnight can continue until completion, (2) a team can't start more than 2 games in a day, although they can complete one game and then play 2 more, and (3) the games must be played in the order scheduled, and they must be completed before the next one starts.

The delay was probably short enough that both pitchers will continue in the game.  If there is another delay, though, that has to help Michigan because it would likely get Louisville's lefty ace out of the game.

Adcock strikes out the side after giving up a leadoff double to start the second.  That's 4 strikeouts of the first 7 batters.

Michigan's first hit of the game is by Cody Bruder who is on with a one-out single.

Adcock trolls the crowd by throwing over to 1B five times and then throws out the runner at 2B as he tries to steal!
