I like the idea of having two good non-conference games a year, one on the road and one at home like the 2020 and 2021 seasons have with Virginia Tech and Washington.

If I could only pick one for home and road.
Home: Boise State Away: Cal
Once Jim gets rollin here I would like to play at Auburn in light of recent events.
Stanford. It would have a few good storylines:
Two great academic schools.
Harbaugh vs. his old school (and Shaw).
Pac12 vs. Big 10.
Matchup of the first two Rose Bowl teams.
schedule really comes to play I would hope we could get away from scheduling 10 years out and keep it to 4 years out and play traditional powers who aren't down. With HARBAUGH not affraid of competition we could have some sick schedules and rack up some nice W's. I think in the next few years it is going to be difficult to get those traditional powers to agree to a home and home.
all FBS teams to play only FBS teams for their non-conference slate. Eliminate these meaningless games against MAC schools or Sun Belt conference teams.
I think you mean Power 5 vs Power 5 conference teams.
MAC and Sun Belt are both Division I-FBS conferences.
It changes so much I can never keep up with the latest verbage the NCAA uses.
Curiously a lot of your open dates are open for us to. I miss you guys. :(
You screwed up big time not joining the B1G.
There are two games on your schedule that anyone who is not an ND fan or a fan of their opponent will care about and that's the Texas and USC games. Maybe Clemson, but that will just to be to see Clemson start Clemsoning all over themselves.
Look at this-
- 9/5 vs Texas
- 9/12 at Virginia
- 9/19 vs Georgia Tech
- 9/26 vs UMass
- 10/3 at Clemson
- 10/10 vs Navy
- 10/17 vs USC
- 10/31 at Temple
- 11/7 at Pitt
- 11/14 vs Wake Forest
- 11/21 Boston College (@ Fenway)
- 11/28 at Stanford
Come home. It's a crime games like Michigan-ND and MSU-ND aren't happening on a yearly basis anymore. That's not even accounting for other games like ND-Nebraska, ND-OSU, ND-Northwestern.
We tried. A lot of times. Some of your people made sure it did not happen. However, fast forward to this day and age. Playing in th ACC gets us footprints all over the southeast. With USC and Stanford always on, we are on the West Coast as well. But one off games like BC @ Fenway or other venues are awesome as well.
Just an FYI for some of you guys in regards to Navy. (While I'd like to see that game end blocking schemes triple option yadda yadda) That game will be played to infinity and beyond as a thank you to the Navy for keeping ND afloat during war time.
Throw in some Texas flavour and thats a pretty good go around the country. Because its all about that 'Crootin.
I have no doubt that sometime in the future that we'll cross paths again. However I do have to say playing you guys in a bowl situation makes me salivate. (Detroit, Pinstripe & Orange Bowl)
Notre Dame is a small private school with deep religous affiliation, just like several other schools in the ACC. The Big Ten is full of huge liberal arts public schools. Notre Dame is a research university. Sure, they played Purdue and Michigan State for a long time, and had an on-and-off affair with Michigan, but let's not pretend like that was a storied rivalry that lasted 100 consecutive years. ND plays in California once a season for recruiting, and has a much more storied history with Navy, so that's how Stanford, S Cal, and Navy stayed on the schedule.
Looking at that schedule, it's not that much different in terms of quality than a plain old Big Ten schedule.
ND is really finding their level and fit in the new D1 playoff environment. With no free pass into the BCS that leverages romantic voters, the opportunities for titles became much dimmer as they seem to field weaker team nowadays. The chance to play in an lower tier P5 conference, and potentially dominate it, works better for them than playing in the B1G/SEC/PAC and finishing middle of the pack.
Arizona State for selfish reasons. Plus, I'm sure Harbaugh still remebers the '87 Rose Bowl and I think the clash of styles would be fun to watch.
Me too! Its an easy 30 minute drive to Sun Devil stadium from my house. :)
