Bielfeldt Released, Michigan Still Has A Spot
[Bryan Fuller]
Max Bielfeldt was re-listed as a senior a couple years back and walked on senior day, so his departure was expected. It's now official, per Jeff Goodman. Bielfeldt himself:
"With (LeVert) taking that scholarship, any little option of something else happening -- me coming back -- got a little bit smaller," Bielfeldt said. "The odds aren't very high that I come back here next year."
As a grad transfer Bielfeldt can be immediately eligible next year; Bradley, near his home, has been mentioned as a possibility. Dan Dakich will still talk about his calves during Michigan games for nostalgia's sake.
Meanwhile, despite Caris's decision to stay Michigan is still under the impression they have room for another player next year.
U-M coaches have made it clear that even with LeVert's return, the roster will have room for at least one addition.
Following Tuesday's announcement by LeVert, Troy Manns, [Kenny] Williams' coach at LC Bird High School coach in Richmond, told MLive that LeVert's return does not impact Williams' interest in Michigan.
"No, not at all," he said.
Asked if Michigan told Williams it still would have space for him if LeVert remaining a Wolverine, Manns answered, simply, "Yes."
With seemingly everyone else content to fight out the playing time crunch next year that would likely be Austin Hatch either going on medical hardship or, if his family is so inclined, becoming a walk-on next year. That would cost money but would keep the door open to Hatch getting on the court some.
you did a helluva job!!!
Thank you, Max for all you have given to Michigan Basketball!
If Max wanted to walk back on to do his fifth year here, I would welcome him with open arms.
One of these guys looks to still be in play for next year's roster. Fingers crossed for Brown
I kinda feel bad for Max. He worked his tail off and was really playing well this year. Best of luck in the future!
I hope Bielfeldt finds a place where he can start and have one great year of basketball. He could put up some very nice numbers if he picks the right place.
Its a testament to how hard he worked and how much he improved that a 5th year was an option for him. Hope he finds a great fit for his grad year.
his decision? I thought I heard sometime during the end of April ??? Was there an offcial date set yet?

Congrats to him. I'm sure he'd like to stick around for a 5th year, but he represented the university well and I wish him the best if he does transfer.
Its too bad, that Bielfeldt will go from playing for a national stage team, to maybe starting for Bradley..
Bradley is a nice little program. This would be a good move for Max.
Two years ago they hung right with the national runner-up.

Xavier's Matt Stainbrook, the goofy guy who moonlights as an Uber driver when not helping his team to Sweet 16's, gave up his scholarship so his brother could have one. It can happen.

not really a situation subject to abuse as not many players would choose or could afford to pay their own way.
He did us proud for 4 years. I would welcome him back, but if he really wants to play in his final year, he will be able to get a lot more minutes somewhere else. Being the oldest and shortest big, his minutes were going to be hard to come buy.
I'm disappointed for him, he was turning into a solid contributor, especially at those times we absolutely needed an offensive board and a second chance.
He just wouldn't be on scholarship. By all appearances, his family has the wherewithal. IMHO, Max's tweet even suggests as much--because there is no scholarship and yet Max didn't make it final.
Start working at home with Google! It's by-far the best job I've had. Last Wednesday I got a brand new BMW since getting a check for $6474 this - 4 weeks past. I began this 8-months ago and immediately was bringing home at least $77 per hour. I work through this link, go to tech tab for work detail.
