Those cars were great for new drivers to have, but they were not great for new drivers to learn on and then drive something else.  The street cars in my driving school were all Cutlass Cieras, something like '92 or '93.  They had gas pedals that you really had to mash down to make the car move.  So of course, the first time driving something different, mash down the gas pedal was exactly what I did.  Mom's minivan never moved so damn quick.

My first car was a hand me down that my older sister had to drive because she was a terrible driver.  It was a 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger with a slant 6 in it. It had to be arguably  one of the ugliest cars ever produced. My parents only gave a couple hundred bucks for it. It ran fine, it was just an eyesore to look at. I couldn't complain since it was a free car.

That picture is a close match, but mine had a light brown vinyl roof and some rust of course.

It was 1997 and the car was a primer black 1983, imported by Dodge Colt that I paid $100 for. I sold it for the same price to a friend and shortly afterwards, while in mid-turn, the passenger-side front tire broke off at the studs.

Thats why I said "I believe." I wasn't sure what kind of engine it was. All I remember was it was fast as hell and could beat everyone in a race easily. But its cool being an ass. Which I'm guessing once you see this you'll just say "Oh, I was just being sarcastic."

'89 cut supreme.  Sunroof, tinted windows and a badass soundsystem.  Chick magnet.  Loved that car.

It had the all digital dash too:
