Extreme OT - Graduation. Finally

Submitted by teldar on
I graduated from M in '96, went back to school in 98 and again in 05 and continued on through, starting grad school in 07. I've been attending some college or university for like 11 of the past 18 years. Since 9/07, the last 28 months, I've been going to Cinci, doing the weekly commute to and from Columbus , where my wife and year old daughter are. Friday is my last clinical day and graduation is on Saturday. And I've got a job all lined up as long as I pass my boards. While I definitely made the choice to go back to school, this program has been difficult and stressful and I'll be happy to see the end of it. So, hopefully, this is the last week of higher education I will ever put myself through.

Some sort of irrational hatred and pride and BAM you are going to be making less money. I hope you're joking. This is a post that tells you fans can sometimes either REALLY lose their marbles over sports, OR they just say things that will get them the most points on MgoBlog.

the place I'm going to work for is supposed to be the greatest to work for. They make sure people get out on time. No nights, weekends, holidays. Two people quit several years ago. They were gone for 7 months. They petitioned the board to be rehired and they both were rehired. They were the only two who have ever stayed in the area and quit without retiring. That's over like 30 years. So I figured I would rather like my job than work for a group that would treat me like a tool rather than a person.

I fortunately got a reading day on Friday.... On Sunday night I drove back to Cinci from Columbus for clinical on Monday. Monday evening I drove back to Columbus for my interview on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning I drove back to Cinci for clinical 11-7. When I was done at the hospital I drove back to Columbus. If I hadn't had a reading day on Friday, I would have had to have driven back from Columbus to Cinci on Thanksgiving for Friday clinical and back to Columbus Friday night. So only like 500 miles that week in back and forth between cities. So, yeah. Back and forth every week most weeks of the last 2+ years plus extra times when I've had a day off during the middle of the week....

Congratulations are definitely in order. Not being able to go to the best damn university in the world will haunt me for the rest of my days, so when I see someone that's had a chance to do so, I can't help but congratulate them. And be envious. jk
