[RESULTS] MGoBlog Fall Survey

Less than five hours and we have 422 responses; thanks! I believe that is a good enough sample size to share some of the results.

The best way to look at it is by how they scored each person. Where they were ranked, they were given the opposite in points,  then averaged. For example, if there were 5 players in a position, the #1 ranked player would get 5 points, the lowest would get 1. Pretty typical. (Each position group had a different number of players, so the actual score doesn't mean much, just order and difference between others.)

I'm more pissed about Jordan Lewis playing his ass off and still being ranked behind a talented but unproven sophomore. Also, I wouldn't put the our alcohol plagued Glasgow brother so high (potential Stonham 2?) and the other Glasgow is ranked too low.

Interesting jake butt was unanimously first, but Peppers, Cole, etc. weren't unanimous. Not good or bad, just interesting. Thanks for this informal info!

I would pick Drake Johnson over all the RBs, he had shown the most explosion and ability to be a homerun threat also would have took Cole and Canteen over the other WRs because Darboh and Chesson don't appear to be game changers they are solid possession receivers but we need explosive players

Your comment shows the flaws in your logic. Drake Johnson showed explosion. Problem is, he tore his ACL for the second time in the same knee. That is going to take its toll, and you can't say with certainty that he is going to come back as the same back. He also has missed out on valuable reps in practice, time in the weight room, and since he JUST started running again, he missed an entire conditioning session before spring practice. How far that sets him back, is unknown. But it is also unknown how he responds to his second ACL tear physically, and for that matter, mentally. It's hard to vote him very high with all of those unknowns. As for the receivers, I don't necessarily agree to vote for those guys based on explosiveness. First of all, considering the type of offense Harbaugh runs, I'd value a possession receiver over a home run threat. Second, what makes you think that Darboh and Chesson aren't explosive? Chesson was a state champion in track. What's your definition of explosive, and what makes Cole/Canteen more explosive than anyone else? Now an explosive, deep-threat is a great asset in any offense. But to value that over another receiver isn't a solid foundation to base your opinion on. Ideally, you'd like a combination of those receiving types out there.

I am surprised that Ruddock has more first place votes for his position group than Peppers. I don't know if people are just higher on Ruddock than I am, or they are more conservative on Peppers. I suspect both players will be #1 in their position group, but I think Peppers has his spot more locked down than a guy who is not even on campus yet!

That makes complete sense. I guess I may have been unrealistically optimistic that Harbaugh and co. were working some magic with the players already on campus. I still believe that we will see a significant bump in the development of all of our QBs, but I also understand that Rudock wouldn't be coming here if he and the coaches didn't think he had a great shot at being the starter.

Did you randomize the inputs in SurveyMonkey? 

If not, there is probably a bias to keep the default or stay close to the way you structured initiially.

The fact that a lot of these position groups didn't change makes me question these results.

Quick thoughts

  • Our "top" RB and QB have never played a down for UM.  In fact the QB was not our QB 3 days ago.  Fascinating stuff.
  • Glad to see the masses catching up on Lewis and Peppers didnt win in a landslide.  One guy has done it.  One guy still has to do it.
  • Ryan Glasgow gets no love.

Ryan Glasgow will either start or be heavily in the rotation at NT.  He was one of our best players last year.  If we ever see the draft order, it will come out that he went very high.  The fans missed this one in a big way.

Also, Erik Magnuson is a versatile player that has more talent and experience than a few guys above him.  I'd put him ahead of Dawson, LTT, and Braden.

Other than that, I think we did a pretty darn good job.  I think Bolden is ahead of Morgan and I think Drake is ahead of De'Veon, but that's picking nits.

I feel like he's a dude with a unique skill set that might fit into Harbaugh's system somewhere. Big, catchy dude coming flying out of the backfield on 'big' sets? Seems like Hill could be great in a utility / #3 TE / u-back / FB sort of role

Probably going to take some heat for this but what has Peppers done to receive such high praise? Upside? Sure. But Countess, Lewis AND Wilson have better resumes. Am O missing something?
