Highschool playoff game
our game tonight is cancelled. As of 10:30 am. a little bit of rain, and they cancell the game on us. Big time school all that speed, afraid of little ole NWG. They dont want to play in the rain.. So now i have to work on my day off, and now im REALLY PISSED... i expect to win big tomorrow, and i only get to see a little of the michigan game....

Fuck that. We played in -4 degrees once for a playoff game and another in a snowstorm and the field was frozen solid. Two of the most fun games I've played in . What kind of panty-wastes do you line up against down there. Plus, now I'm in NW Washington and these teams play in monsoons sometimes. I thought you southerners were tough. Maybe that's just you.

I live in the south, too. The AD at my school won't let us play when it rains too much, because he's afraid it will tear up the field. We also don't practice when it rains. So when my kids played an away game in the rain a couple weeks ago, they couldn't cut (they didn't know how to run on a wet field) and they couldn't hold onto the ball.

My high school football team used to practice inside when it was raining, while me and my fellow scrawny nerdy wimpy cross country runners manned up and ran outside like MEN. NOW YOU'RE A MAN...A MANNY MAN MAN!
Anyway, our football team blew chimp, meanwhile my cross country team kicked ass! Wooo runners.

middle school ball one practice day where it was so wet..we didn't go inside. we did our tackling drills in the biggest puddle we could find!

That's part of the game. I don't see why weather should be a factor, maybe it doesn't show who the better team is, but it shows who can adjust to conditions and play through adversity. Football shouldn't be a all sunshine and flowers. I do understand not practicing on a game field if it rains so as to not tear up the field. Dick Butkus is rolling in his grave right now!

I get that. But to me, that's bullshit on their part. I would feel like a shitty coach if I told the AD to cancel because we could only beat this team in perfect conditions. It's a chicken-shit move and I hope you inform their coach of my opinion about him. He'll know who I am.

We definitely played in the rain. I remember a game against Lowell in high school where the rain was so bad they had no idea where to mark the ball because none of the yard lines were still there and half the time the ball carrier went down he slid for 10 yards. I've never been so muddy in my life, but it was one of the most fun games I've ever played.

Growing up in W. Michigan, I had a few basketball games canceled due to weather...driving a bus full of kids for an hour in white-out conditions = uh, not a good idea.

I'm with chitown -- I didn't know they could arbitrarily cancel games like that without dangerous weather conditions (lightning, tornado warning, whatever). I don't care if they don't like playing in rain; that seems kind of dumb to me. It's football -- rain is just part of the game.
Also, I like rain for my own selfish reasons: I can get some fun pictures from a rainy football game.

the weather this weekend in MI is supposed to suck from what I hear. It will be interesting to see how it affects the big Lowell - Muskegon showdown. If I didn't hate getting wet i'd like to go see it, should have a good crowd

That will be as big of a high school football game that Michigan has seen in a while, 2 very big time programs with outstanding teams. It's too bad they couldn't meet in the finals, they are far and away the best 2 teams in D2. Whoever wins will win the trophy, no doubt.

I'm out taping games until the team I tape loses every year from late August (HOT!) to as late as the Friday after Thanksgiving (State Final, COLD).
I've never heard of a game being canceled because of a little bit of rain. I mean, there have to big huge puddles on the field to even consider it. If it's a downpour and it last for a few hours, then yeah, it's happened.
My favorite is when there's lightning in the area and we have to wait around for hours before they call it. That makes for really late nights getting back. I've taped in some really bad conditions, including one that it was raining the whole time (downpour style), along with 40+ mph winds. I made the mistake of leaving the camera on the tripod when I came down at halftime to get dry, and the wind blew the camera over and busted the viewfinder. I had to hold the viewfinder up so I could see and use the other hand to follow the action. Needless to say there was no zooming in and out for the remainder of the game. I didn't have enough hands.
