Harbaugh at U-M or Your Favorite NFL Team?
In the thread discussing the end of the Michigan hockey season / potential new coaches (http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/mel-pearsonhockey-season-postmortem) , Mike Babcock was brought up. He's probably not a realistic candidate, but a couple people said they would rather see him stay where he is anyway.
So, my question is: If Jim Harbaugh was the coach of your favorite NFL team, would you still have wanted him to come to Michigan, or would you have preferred that he stayed where he was?

Michigan and it's not even close.
Seriously, how is this even a question? It is like asking whether who I would rather see win the lottery; my brother or my neighbor.
THIS. THIS. THIS.
You coulda shut the thread down after the above post.
Great analogy!
The love I have for my school, my fellow alums, my fellow Michigan athletes dwarfs any feelings I have for my favorite NFL team that, aside from family tradition and geography, I have little actual connection.
This guy seriously posed this question to a Michigan blog? Full of lulz!

Yes. I'd want him at Michigan. Michigan athletics is way more important to me than any pro team.

Michigan > all other sports.

Considering I've posted nearly 1000 times on a Michigan blog and exactly 0 times on any Browns blog I'm going to say I'd rather see him in maize and blue on the sidelines.
I would rather have Bill Belichick coach in New England. Harbaugh BELONGS here!
That way we can both win championships.

Up for debate? Michigan. Michigan. Michigan. Every time Michigan.
Michigan first, cancer second.

for sure. I don't share the same feelings for NFL as I do college football.

Michigan, no question about it.

Michigan 100% of the time.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. How can you possibly come onto a Michigan blog and expect any answer other than Michigan? You're going to get a very skewed vote here.

Not only that but in a region where the Detroit Lions represent the default other option. What a crazy question indeed.

There is no question about this question: Michigan.

I feel like there's a sampling bias inherent in this data set.

Why is this even a question?

See, how I think this site works is if you log enough comments to other posts, eventually they let YOU make your own posts. >
Many do not use this privilege very wisely. ..this is probably a pretty good example of that.
That being said, approaching 100 people have read and replied to the question posted. Soo... maybe the OP filled a niche we didn't know we needed filled?
So as long as I read the OP and already replied, I'll answer the stoopid question:
Harbaugh DID coach my favorite NFL team and I passionately rooted for the 49ers to choke & die last year to ensure they'd part ways with JH. So, that happened. And now I'll never root for them again as long as Jed is running the show with his toady Baalke.
OK, question answered!

Michigan all the way, and I'm sure could do some serious damage with the Lions squad. But no, Mich for sure. Michigan has had a rough ten years, but they are used to greatness. Lions? Shoot an 11 win season is the beat I've seen in my lifetime.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:43 PM ^
To me, the question is beyond absurd.

Have to agree wholeheartedly. Michigan vs Ditka.....michigan

I've been a redskins fan far long than a Michigan fan. plus I think its much tougher to find a good NFL coach than a good college coach.
Interesting. Do you spend more time on this blog or on a Redskins blog - assuming there is one?
I get most my skins info from podcast and twitter.
far longer than a Michigan fan. But still, the answer is MICHIGAN and it's not even close. Jim Harbaugh belongs at Michigan. He and his family have a special connection to the Maize and Blue that cannot be approached by any NFL team.
I didn't say JH doesn't belong at Michigan, the question was which I would rather have him coaching at. yes we all know his ties to Michigan, I would rather the Redskins have the best coach possible.
March 22nd, 2015 at 10:06 PM ^
Harbaugh at Michigan > Harbaugh in the NFL because of those ties. He can use his reputation and charisma to recruit his type of players to Michigan, whereas his ability to do that in the NFL is limited. In other words, he can and will have a stronger and more lasting effect at Michigan than he would with any NFL team.
March 22nd, 2015 at 10:24 PM ^
but my point is he would do well in either position, so with that I would rather him coaching my favorite NFL team.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:47 PM ^
Bigger issue for me is that I am a Chiefs fan and I hear that the Raiders are still in play.

Seriously though, why didn't you just word the question this way: which team do you like more, Michigan or your favorite NFL team?
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:55 PM ^
Not quite the same. Even if I liked the Lions more (which I don't), I'd be happier with Caldwell there and Harbaugh here. That's still a pretty good situation. UM needed him more, and he was a more perfect fit in A2. Win/win. Still a silly question, though.
Because I wasn't just looking at it like that. I thought some people would think about the question as "best non-Harbaugh option for Michigan" vs. "best non-Harbaugh option for your NFL team" or compare the difference between Harbaugh and the best non-Harbaugh option for both teams.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:50 PM ^
Okay, this may have been a stupid question. My bad. For the record, I'd say Michigan as well.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
Michigan! I don't see a coach as great as Harbaugh ever coaching the Lions but even if he was coaching the Lions, I would want him as the Michigan coach! I'm glad we have him and we will keep him no matter what, even if his record is .500 the next 4 years!
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
He was the head coach of my favorite NFL team. And now they're going down in flames over this offseason :(
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:57 PM ^
Harbaugh here in A2 is a quantum of solace, yes? Imagine Sparty fan who loves the 9ers too.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
Michigan 100%.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:52 PM ^
I'm a life long 49er fan and I wanted Harbaugh at Michigan. Of course my dream scenario included Harbaugh to Michigan and then the 49ers either promoting Fangio or getting a slam dunk big name hire which never happened. I also imagined getting Patrick Willis back fully healthy but when he retired I thought well thank God Borland had a great year maybe him and Bowman will be the next great duo...then he retired.
Basically with Michigan's terrible football season, bad basketball season and everything that happened to the Niners Harbaugh at Michigan is like the light at the end of a really dark, dank, smelly tunnel of despair.

How about 18,750 points before one can start a thread (and none for anyone using 2 or fewer initials as their username)?
19,000 minimum, and you don't get points for posting.
Michigan Football without a doubt. I have never been a big NFL fan, maybe it's because the Lions have sucked so bad(they really lost me during the Millen era). I've been rooting for the Patriots because of Tom Brady and over the years for teams that have former Michigan players.
March 22nd, 2015 at 12:59 PM ^
I actually care about is played on Friday and Saturday- high school and college. And college over hs by a considerable margin.
40+ years of ineptitude from the Lions has made me apathetic to the pro game. Following how the former Michigan players did is all I really do now in the NFL.
Harbaugh at Michigan over anywhere else by a landslide.
