OT: Favorite Nitro Beer
Seems as good a day as any to ask this question: what is your favorite nitro beer? When I turned 21 and tried alcohol for the very first time, I thought Guinness was the bomb. Now that I am a micro-brew fanatic, I find it repulsive and cheap-tasting. But I honestly don't know where to turn for good nitro beer. Any suggestions? More importantly, is there anything that you can buy in the beer aisle that is high-quality?

You referring to draft beer? Nitrogen is hooked up to stouts in a bar setting. Cans don't get the nitrogen, so they don't taste as creamy. Left Hand has a Nitro Milk Stout I believe, but if you're looking for good stouts, I'd suggest Founder's Breakfast Stout. I'm a fan.

Yeh, I just looked it up. I guess I never knew that some stouts have nitrogen injected into their cans. I knew there were a couple of stout that had "Nitro" in their name, but I never picked up the correlation...
Actually has invented a way to bottle nitrogen beers without a widget in the bottle, like you see with Guinness and others. The six packs instruct you to "pour hard", which is to invert the bottle 180 instead of pouring down the side of a glass, to recreate the creamy head and cascade effect typical of nitro beers on tap.
As a reccomendation try Wake Up Dead from Left Hand if you can find it, it is a nitro russian imperial stout.

Seconded. Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout is also tasty. I've got some in my fridge at this very moment, as a matter of fact.

Left Hand's Sawtooth Nitro is my favorite nitro beer, one of my go-to's in general, and it's made practically right here in the neighborhood -- brewed on the banks of the mighty St. Vtrain!
EDIT: I'm a wee bit surprised at Left Hand's profile here. New Belgium, then Oskar Blues, have always seemed to overshadow them, and they always felt a bit like Longmont's secret beer to me -- Longmont being the armpit of Boulder Cnty in the popualr imagination. Never been a huge fan of OB though I drank a lot it back in the 90s when I was just a couple blocks from their first brewery in Lyons. Now I get to sit by their brewery in Longmont and smell the good smells while waiting to pick up my kid from school, then go past LH on the way home...
I do like dumping those nitros in a glass.
In summary: beer.

I don't know of it's availability in Michigan (or outside of CO, for that matter), but Left Hand's Nitro Milk Stout is pretty darn solid, IMO.

Yeah, I second the Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout. One of my favorite (if not my favorite) beers. There's also a non-nitro version, but the nitro is better in my opinion. Just make sure you follow the instructions on pouring.

If you're looking for a creamier Irish stout Murphy's is solid. And I second the Boddingtons and Left Hand Nitro Milk Stouts.
I don't like you hating on the Guinness though.

I also enjoy Guinness, although as someone did point out they do have the nitro-infused cans and I would definitely recommend that over bottles. If you can find some near you - and this isn't easy everywhere (I've had to have my beer guy put in an order for it) - Guinness Foreign Extra is probably one of the more solid stouts out there too.
Left hand on tap is my favorite nitro. The bottles are decent but get it on tap if you can.
If a local brewery made something that tasted identical to Guinness but came up with a cool name and graphics this site would go berserk over it.

I don't mind it from the pint cans, and I'll drink it on tap when I can here. Cannot stand it when someone pours it just straight in and passes it to you. Let the 3/4 sit and then top it off. Should take around two minutes. It's worth the wait.
It tastes lousy in the widget bottles.
I was in Dublin for a few weeks a couple summers ago. There were certain pubs that were supposed to get the best batches from the storehouse every week...maybe they paid off Guinness, who knows. They all tasted damn good to me. As good as it is over here my life won't be complete without a trip back to Dublin. Nothing like a Guinness with a full Irish breakfast to accompany.

New Belgium's Salted belgium chocolate stout!
Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. Hands down the best beer I've ever drank. The only problem is that it's a super limited release. It only comes out in November. 14.2& abv. Super smooth transitioning flavor from bourbon to beer to a nice coffee after taste.

I went over to Founders in GR last week (to pick up my KBS...woo!!) and had their Nitro T8R (as in 'tater'...made with potato flakes) Stout. My buddy had their Nitro Oatmeal Stout. I liked his a little better than mine, but both were tasty.
