Spring Practice video #7 (mgovideo)
Drink up MGoBloggers. Your video for St. Patrick's day is here.
Brief summary:
- Showed pretty even snaps for the quarterbacks in the clips. Deveon with a nice truck. Malzone with a nice roll out and chuck to Norfleet.
- Little spotlight on O and D lines.
- Grbac and Carr highlighted. No interviews unfortunately.
- Of note to headgear enthusiasts/WD, Harbaugh is now sporting the adidas version of the Bo hat:
- Really too short of a video. Give us some more footage Ed!
I'd follow Mama G Bush on Twitter, she had some pictures from practice today up.
Edit: Angelique posted some video of Baxter's interview. Talks about the academic gameplan. Hope we get to hear more about the Bomb Squad.

Appears Poggi is officially taking snaps on offense...not sure if that was ever confirmed. Saw him pulling as a tight end/h-back on a Morris rollout in the middle of the video.

Dong forest sighting!
March 17th, 2015 at 10:56 PM ^
Did anyone say dong forest in the favorite mgomemes thread?
March 17th, 2015 at 11:00 PM ^
Kinda surprised that was already an article tag tbh.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:26 PM ^
I can just hear the coaches "ok. Head to the forest of dongs!"
The worst thing about dong forest is getting hit in the dong by a dong forest dong while running through the dong forest. DONG!!
The dong forest could use a little diversity.

Those looked like some good passes thrown although they only show good things on these videos and don't show the overthrows/interceptions/ etc.
March 17th, 2015 at 10:59 PM ^
Can someone tell me what that contraption is at the 1:39 mark in the video? It's the plastic arm thingy that receivers and running backs run through. I'm not sure what the point of that thing is. Anyone know?
Edit: Section 12R embedded a picture of it above.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:01 PM ^
Those aren't arms.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:04 PM ^
Yeah, okay. My question is kinda serious. I've seen that in various football practice videos over the years and I can't see what value it provides. It must have some coaching / training purpose. Just something to acclimate WR and RB to running into and through resistance?
March 17th, 2015 at 11:10 PM ^
This is pure speculation, but it could perhaps be helpful in training skill position players to secure the ball in traffic and through arm tackles.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:11 PM ^
to emphasize ball security

You said balls. Teehee

Purpose: to run through a gauntlet of dongs
March 17th, 2015 at 11:51 PM ^
Just thinking out loud here, but I think it's to practice catching in the event they're stuck in a forest of dongs.

Morris was the first qb on camera, then Speight, then Malzone appeared. So obviously that's the order from here until the end of the season.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:00 PM ^
Ah ... but the video also showed Harbaugh coaching up Morris, but not Speight or Malzone. So if we operate on the inverse coaching formula, it's Speight/Malzone, then Morris! :-)
March 17th, 2015 at 11:03 PM ^
I forgot all about the inverse coaching formula.
Here's a reminder:

Funny you mentioned the hat, I actually bought that last night.

I do kinda wonder if the adidas reps whispered something to Harbaugh or Hackett about wearing it vs. the New Era. Still looks sharp, I might have to get one.
On a side note I LOVED when Harbaugh was with his daughter (Addie? spelling?) and the Hacketts at a basketball game, think it was when he was eating pizza, and she had a Nike sweatshirt on, right courtside. Good unintentional trolling.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:17 PM ^
new era one looks better imo
March 17th, 2015 at 11:39 PM ^
Agreed. The M is awkwardly large on the Adidas version...
*insert awkwardly long dong joke*
the word "joke."
March 17th, 2015 at 11:44 PM ^
Agreed. I liked the little M on the back too instead of the trefoil.
But, I'd rather have their version of the Bo hat than the mini block M.
March 18th, 2015 at 12:02 AM ^
Seriously would be awesome if it looked just like Bo's hat. The New Era hat is a closer match, but I don't think it's a big deal. The nice thing about the Bo hat was its simple design. It was very understated, but is still iconic. I hope Adidas tweaks this hat to match Bo's hat.
Speaking of "hats", the maize on the helmets still does not match the maize on the jerseys. You would think a program like Michigan would have enough stature to get the helmet maker and the jersey maker in sync.
It should be part of our zillion dollar contract: "Thou shall sync your jersey maize with the helmet maize", and vice versa.

Cole looks larger than Drake Harris.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:11 PM ^
He is. Though at 6'4" 174 lbs, just about everyone is larger than he is. So at 6'2" 200 lbs, Cole IS significantly larger than Harris.
March 17th, 2015 at 11:21 PM ^
Dude looks like he is in great shape. Another summer of training and I see him ready to challenge to start. He certainly looks the part
That pic of the players sitting on a snowbank will do wonders for our CA recruiting strategy.
Maybe we can tell them it's a sand dune.

Adidas. . .

I heard from a friend who hosts a sports podcast said Morris is underperforming in practice so much that they're considering redshirting him so he can transfer and play two years elsewhere. Didn't ask how he knew that.

Tell your friend to get his head out if his ass. Redshirts aren't being considered or discussed in the spring.

I heard they're gonna redshirt him just for spring so he can have one more spring of eligibility left after he graduates.
is like Charlie Weiss turning away a meal. It's not going to happen.
March 18th, 2015 at 12:08 AM ^
Ahhh, so that's what Harbaugh was talking to Morris about in the video. How to fold after 7 spring practices. I'm curious who your friend with a podcast is.
Is this him?
Doesn't make sense. If Morris were to redshirt at Michigan then transfer he'd have to sit out a year and lose a year of eligibility. He'd only have one year to play.
I'm kind of over the speculation regarding Morris. A number of fans wanted him to replace Gardner last season (and even the year before) but he has had a limited number of chances under not exactly great conditions (new coordinators, underperforming teams, fan negativity towards AD and Hoke). I'd hate to write him off in favor of two freshman QBs with no experience.
I heard from a friend who hosts Friday poker and makes a meeean gumbo that says if you go sit in the middle of I-94 and face NNE while grilling a Pop Tart on top of a car battery using sunlight and a magnifying glass...it's delicious. Didn't ask how he knew that.
Does it matter what flavor the pop tart is?
