Spring Practice Passing Game Video
I didn't see this one posted yet. Mgoblue has posted a video today on our passing game.

Damn, nice pass by Shane there at the 1:20 mark.

You can tell Harbaugh has already given them the, "Find the Asshole" speech about hand placement for the snap.

Meh. It looked pretty, but all that pass really shows is that he has a very strong arm, which we already knew. There wasn't much in that clip to get excited about. He looked at his receiver the entire way, then threw it into double coverage. You do that enough times in practice, you're going to complete a few balls. If he does that kind of thing in a game, however, we're in deep doodoo.

It was a 50 yard pass that hit the receiver in stride. I don't think we've even had a QB capable of that in 7 years.

did that a time or two, but no one else that I can think of. Tate maybe?

Every starting QB we've had for the past 7 years has done that in practice. Shit, even Denard did it in a live game against Alabama. Broken watch, twice a day. Isolated plays like that say nothing about a QB's consistency or ability to efficiently run an offense (a/k/a the two things Shane has struggled the most with)

It looked like a hitch-and-go. You have to look at the receiver to pump fake to the spot. If the safety was playing to that side of the field then yea, it probably won't do much, and the pump fake only makes it worse to bring him close to that side. But I'm assuming this play is only called when there is not deep help near the sideline.
I also don't think it only shows his strong arm. He can throw it that far on more of a line, but here he did a good job of lofting it over the corner.
Either way, I don't think you can take much, good or bad, away from this one play.
Two awesome things are in this video.
1. QBs not locking on receivers.
2. AJ Williams caught a pass.

3:05 was nice too. He looked good in this video, it's nice to see that he still has that great arm he came in with, despite how bad he looked the past two years. I still think his biggest challenges are going to be decision making and consistency in his throws, which we obviously can't glean from a video like this. Still, he looked good.

MGoBlue site doesn't work where I'm at.
If not, its cool :)

What about mgovideo?
Mgovideo uses a better player than the garbage inhouse player that mgoblue.com uses.

...if someone will embed the clip.

Trying...

I don't think that the MGoBlue dumps that appear on MGoVideo's site can generally be embedded, partly because I believe that's how a few of our providers of video content got in hot water the last time. I could be wrong about that, but quite a bit of that - at least if the video was from certain sources - ended during the Great Licensed Media Rampage a while back.
That's too bad, but thanks for the explanation. And thanks for trying, GoWings2008.

Shane throw one at less than light speed.

Devin Funchess looking on from the sidelines at around 2:25, I believe. (Would've been interesting to see how he would've responded to Harbaugh & Co.'s coaching...) And is that Jack Miller taking things in from the sidelines in street clothes at 2:57?

If you pause it at the 2:55 mark, you can see an example of the multi-faceted approach to practicing that we've heard about. In the foreground, Speight completes the pass to Ways (overseen by Fisch), but in the background, you can see Harbaugh working with Shane and Alex (and whoever #8 is). I like it.

According to the roster that is Joe Hewlett. Walk-on QB for Novi.

It's just one video and a few choice reps, but yes, it looked crisp.
There remains something I just don't like about the way Morris throws. I once saw a video of Joe Montana throwing with his two sons, talking about the finer points of delivery, and emphasizing the idea of driving the football straight at your target as opposed to bringing the ball around and just letting go at the right moment. It was very hard to describe in words, and it was a very subtle thing to see. But I went out an experimented, and I think I could feel what Joe was talking about. And it's something my uncle, a former Central Michigan QB in the '70s, used to try to explain to me, too.
Well, it looks like Morris brings the ball around more, if that makes sense. The results were fine here, but under pressure or when things break down, that can lead to some inaccuracy. So it worries me.
In contrast, I continue to love Speight's delivery. Tight, compact, and no wasted movement. It's not quite as pretty as Forcier's was—that thing was a work of art—but it's close. I like it.
Malzone's is somewhere in the middle, but very classic.

Oh for a brain to match the motion. *sigh* ... what might have been.
Amen. I feel for the kid.
is they worked with a private QB coach for years before coming here.
Ah, I didn't remember that about Speight.

The feel of this is night and day from last spring.
I don't mean just how the players look in the film (though they do look good). I mean how the staff is approaching the management of the practices, the coaching and the team. It's all about clear expecations and accountability for results.
Having worked in corporate America for 31 years now, I can say that management systems that have unclear objectives and inconsistent accountability are a mess. Things get done, just not always very well.
I'm convinced football provides the perfect backdrop for analogies about life. Here's another example.

How awesome would it be if his hair was really just a wig and sewn into the visor.
March 12th, 2015 at 12:37 PM ^
There's probably not much to take away from this video. We as fans won't be able to make any real speculation until we can see the Spring Game, and even then, we won't know the full picture.
Whoever winds up under center next Fall, Harbaugh will have them ready to go. The man can work wonders with QBs, and there's enough talent with our signal callers to at least manage respectable game play.

Of the spring practice videos we've seen, that one gets me the most jacked up. I'm really, really liking me some Jedd Fisch. Dude is coaching hard. I also love that he refers to Speight as "Wilt". Awesome. Can't wait to see how we look in the Spring Game.

I chuckled out loud at AJ Williams being wide open downfield like that. The dude is enormous.
