...it was because of some poor coaching that these kids are not better positioned to earn these awards.

I like JB, but this year was perplexing with some of his coaching decisions.  I agree that the deck was stacked against him, but we are about 5 games below of where we should be this year.

then yea, maybe we should be a 20 win team, but once they went down I don't see how any reasonable fan could expect them to win 20.  Not only were we down Caris and Derrick, but Robinson and Wilson were out, Hatch and Donnal couldn't really play meaningful minutes, and Chatman was incredibly raw.

That means we effectively had 6 scholarship players playing most of our minutes.

absolutely deserved honorable mention.  Its honorable mention--the bar isn't that high--and usually every team gets one of those.

I believe "Honorable mention" means that someone voted for you for the first, second or third team but you didn't get enough total votes to make any of them.  While Spike made major strides this season, I wouldn't quite put him on the ballot as one of the 15 best players in the conference.

I guess a team that has a down year while playing as a team is in danger of this sort of thing happening, but it's a shame nobody saw it coming clearly enough to organize a way to avoid it. It seems really disrespectful to the team to have nobody listed anywhere when even Rutgers gets a guy

Give them a little more chip on the shoulder for the offseason.

Plus, look at that list of the all-B1G teams.  How many on that list are coming back next year?

We're returning everyone but Max plus getting Duncan Robinson.  Our biggest concern is finding minutes and sorting out the rotation.

I have to wonder why people keep mentioned Robinson like he is some future lottery pick we are brining in.  The guy will probably play max like 15 minutes a game because of an inability to play defense or create his own shot and will average like 4-6 points.  Is 4-6 points and 15 minutes really such a game changer? Especially for a guy who if he is have an off shooting night is pretty useless.  This is a guy whose ceiling as an offesnive player seems to be freshman year Irvin and at least freshman year Irvin has some athletecism too for at least a little bit of defense.  It isn't like any other major teams were looking at this guy as a transfer.

annointing him or penciling him for only 4-6 points.  At this point he and Wilson are total unknowns. They could blow up and be in the top 7 of the rotation or they could be Donnal and play only a few minutes here or there.  Really hard to say at this point.

so you criticize an unknown element who you believe over-state Robinson's potential---though I have never seen anyone suggest he is NBA calibre, let alone a lottery pick.  But then you take the same, but opposite, tack by limiting him to 15 minutes and 4-6 points---without any more data than those you criticize.  I'm pretty comfortable--based on Beilein's assessment--that Robinson's contributions will fall somewhere in between.

It's not that surprising given the way this season played out with the injuries and also there being 14 teams to choose from.  I mean, the best we've been able to come up with is that maybe Spike should have gotten honorable mention.

Spike should have been on the honorable mention.

If any team should have been shut out, its Rutgers.

I could be wrong, but Aubrey Dawkins' honor as Freshman Of The Week in the conference was actually the very first such honor Michigan has received all season, which is a little disenheartening after a few seasons where we became used to figuring in that discussion about once a month at least, often more. This list, however, is one where you would think we would get a mention perhaps - rather sad in a way.

Nothing much jumping out at me, except coach of the year. UW was a top 5 pre-season team and played their way through, as expected. I don't think anyone predicted them to have more than 2 losses. While Purdue and Maryland overachieved substantially, at least to me. Last year UM surprised all to win the league by 3 games and Miles won coach of the year. Seems inconsistent.

Petteway went from 1st team last year to 3rd this year.

Only player on last year's all freshman team to be 1-3rd team this year is Nigel Hayes.

This team has been completely disrespected.

No honorable mention for Irvin or Spike? Irvin is a better player than half of those guys they put in there. Walker? Olah? Uthoff? Are you kidding!?

No freshman team for Dawkins? McIntosh and Tate are weak picks.

None of our players really stood out on a consistent basis.  I hear a lot of angst about Spike not making it but his numbers are out not of this world and he simply played admirably when Walton went down.  Spike is a good player but lobbying for him to be on an All-B1G team is a stretch.  Irvin was wildly inconsistent again and shot the ball below average pretty much all year.  With our injuries, we simply didn't have an All-B1G level player.  If our boys are that upset about it they will still be playing come this Saturday and Sunday.  Everybody does not and should not get a trophy.

I think most people are upset that Spike didn't even get an Honorable Mention.

I don't think anyone expected any of our guys to get anything more than that.

Even Dawkins could have got an Honorable Mention.  I read somewhere that he ended with one of the best 3 point shooting percentages in Big Ten Play.

When we finish above 5 teams and are the only team left unrepresented, I think people have a right to be upset.   Even a fucking joke of a team like Rutgers gets someone listed.

This is just a sign of disrespect all around.     This is why I don't give a shit about other Big Ten teams or coaches.

The awards have nothing to do with your team finished.  DJ Newbill is one of the best players in the big ten, doesn't matter that he played for penn state.  Having a high 3 point percentage shot doesn't get you any awards.  No individual player on our team had a good enough season to even warrant honorable mention, it is that simple and the other coaches aren't wrong about it.

The Team! The Team! The Team!

While it has been a very disappointing season for the Michigan men's basketball team, and the losses to NJIT and Eastern Michigan and to Northwestern in double overtime (after blowing the lead) probably doomed any realistic hopes for an NIT bid, how many other teams in the NCAA suffered as many losses to early departures, transfers and injuries as Michigan did (without being able to replace those players with equivalent talent, like Kentucky can do), yet still managed to eke out at least a .500 record during the regular season?

Consider that Michigan (a) played more than a third of the season without Caris LeVert and Derrick Walton, Jr., its two best players, (b) had only two upperclassmen (Spike Albrecht and Max Bielfeldt) playing during the final 12 games of the season, and (c) got very little production from two first-year players who were expected to be significant contributors (Kameron Chatman and Mark Donnal.)

The slight from those who who voted for individual honors on all-conference teams is a disappointment, but not a surprise. Just hope that it will serve as motivation for next season and that The Team will rebound with a better-than-expected performance.

The only upside was tons of playing time and development from Doyle, Dawkins and MAAR.  Lets hope Caris comes back, Robinson and Wilson can play and Chatman makes a huge leap forward.  Lots of things need to go right for this to be anything more than a bubble team next year.

I must say, I'm a little surprised that the media selected Myles Mack over Kadeem Jack. The couple times I saw Rutgers play, Jack was their best player.
