OT - Ronda Rousey wins UFC 184 Title Fight in 14 Seconds

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

I barely watch UFC at all, but this seems very impressive. Ronda Rousey beat previously undefeated Cat Zingano in just 14 seconds to win UFC 184.

Apparently it's the fastest ever submission in a UFC TItle Fight.

Her last three fights have lasted less than 2 minutes...combined.

I think I want her on my team when the zombie apocalypse comes.

Hey man this whiny post is a bit predictable. I predicted it before I clicked on this. Of you predicted that I'd whine about your whiny whines then touche or however they say it. But I predicted that you'd predict that I'd whine about your whiny whine . . . and so on.

She may be the most compelling fighter in any style, male or female right now.  I know Mayweather vs Pacquiao is going to make each fighter a gazillion dollars, but it's a fight that should have happened five years ago.

The card, co-headlined by two women's fights including Rousey's, drew a reported 17,654 and the gate was reported at $2,675,000.  Rousey may be the best thing MMA has going right now.

If somebody is super bored and would like to figure out the purse/losers cut, I would love to know the hourly rate these fighters got paid.

Yea, the pay is actually incredibly low relative to the other professional sports. Obviously MMA is younger and less mainstream, but even Rousey will only get about $2mil for that fight without sponser dollars. That seems like a ton for 14sec, but that's months of training and she's one of the sport's biggest names. Its growing fast though, and she's paving the way for a whole new boatload of female fighters. Pretty awesome to witness for a fan of the sport!

This is obviously understood. But the question was for the "fun" of it. Similar to the amount of money ARod gets per at bat. Just a fun stat, I do recognize that there might be a little training when it comes to preparing for a mixed martial arts fight.

Thanks to those who took a stab

do the math, about $7142/second.

Now, Rousey made a publicly reported $65K, plus $65K for winning, plus $50K for the "submission of the night" bonus.  Those numbes may be like, "what, her base was lower than Zingano's, really????"  But all those are just what was publicly reported.  There's no doubt Rousey also made a cut of all PPV sales, that was no doubt some 6-figure amount of $, but that's not publicly reported.

Still can't figure out why the fight was stopped. Did the other fighter tap out?

P.S. Call me old fashioned but I still think this MMA shit is another symptom of the final push to civilizational decline.

P.P.S. I don't even like watching bar fights.

I was with my gf's brother's house on Saturday night and we almost ordered the fight but we decided against it thinking it might end like it did.  If she continues to steamroll through her competition it will be interesting to see if she can continue to headline the card.

I would pay to see her fight Ron Artest.  Otherwise this is boring like a male beauty pageant.

I beat a dude in less than 10 seconds back when I used to wrestle. I don't think I'd ever felt worse than when they told me afterwards that he had Down's... Totally ruined my day.

Zingano fucked this fight up so badly that it made me angry watching it. Luckily I was just streaming it and didn't pay for PPV. I feel bad for those who did LOL.

Zingano completely whiffed on the knee and it was a wrap from there on. Rousey is a judoka so even if she was taken down first she would adapt b/c of her newaza skills.

Rousey and Cyborg would be one hell of a fight if Cyborg can get down to the 135 lb limit for bantamweight women.
