MBB 2015-16 Big Ten Opponents

Submitted by mgobluth on

The Big Ten released conference opponents for next year's basketball season. Only one game each against MSU & OSU, but at least we get Sparty at home. Full opponents:

Michigan
Home: Indiana, Michigan State, Northwestern, Rutgers
Away: Illinois, Nebraska, Ohio State, Wisconsin
Home/Away: Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Penn State, Purdue

UMHoops has the opponents for each conference team.

That's not too bad of a schedule, but to play eight of our 13 conference rivals only once (and MSU/OSU once, especially) is ridiculous.  The league needs to go to a 20-game schedule, if not even 22.

I hate this damn conference. I don't care about the ease of schedule, I want to see Michigan play their rivals home and away and I want to see them in Assembly Hall. Is it selfish that I want my school to play other schools in our conference?

This is very similar to Baseball. They play neither MSU nor OSU this year. NO RIVALRY GAMES.

They had to schedule one non-conference game against MSU at Comerica.

Fuck this conference.

Also: here are some non-conference games

vs Air Force
at SMU

3 games in Nassau at Battle 4 Atlantis. Tournament field is Michigan, UConn, Gonzaga, Syracuse, Texas, Texas A&M, UNC Charlotte, Washington.

Also: Michigan plays PSU at Madison Square Garden next year.

I really wish we could play Sparty twice next year. One game of payback isn't enough. Although I fully expect that game to be a blowout if we're healthy. Same with OSU, its a shame we don't get to play them in Crisler. Should be a good season either way with our team next year.

I see it as a net loss schedule-wise for us. IU/Msu more or less equal osu/wisconsin, but away at neb/Illinois is more difficult than rutgers/nw at home. I'm glad the NYC game is in place of an away game, so overall, fine.

Splitting Bloomington and Madison away and home is pretty fair, as well as splitting Lansing and Columbus.

Sparty is probably more upset, but I haven't seen the rest of their schedule.

I was OK with adding Nebraska and having a 12 team conference, but what the hell was the point of adding Rutgers and Maryland? They really screwed up the basketball schedule.

In 97 we played a non conference game at Breslin under these same circumstances. While I don't see this happening, what if we scheduled a weekend similar to the hockey GLI. UMvMSU, ILLvNW, winner v winner, loser v loser. These 4 schools are all 1-plays.
