Warren Leaning "Heavily" Towards Leaving
The delightful news keeps coming:
Warren, a third-year junior who led Michigan with 4 interceptions this year, has filed paperwork to ask the NFL's underclass advisory committee for his draft status.
He said Thursday their input will play into his decision, but turning pro is "just something that I believe it's just for me."
"I'm definitely, I'd have to say heavily, I like the chances of me coming out," Warren said at Michigan's annual football bust.
Lame.
BONUS: Vincent Smith's ACL was torn against Ohio State. He'll miss spring practice and may be touchy going into the fall according to someone close to the situation.

Underclassmen that would have been on the fence any other year are going to come out this year.
It's addition by subtraction for us.
It's not good for us, but it's worse for a lot of other schools. This should hurt some of our big competitors more than us.

Absolutely have to agree with you on the coaching staff being a contributing factor.
DW signed up for Lloyd Carr, Ron English, et al, and will have stuck it out for 2/3 of his college career under a different staff (and concurrently during the worst 3 year stretch at Michigan in recent memory). Good luck to him if he jumps.

It has become apparent that it is Angry Michigan FAN Hating God.

Warren will be the only "unexpected" departure
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:34 PM ^
Really? I can understand the Warren situation, even though I think it would benefit him in the long run by staying, but wow. Smith too? With him being out, we will have Shaw, Cox and Toussaint at RB, along with the new kids. Joy.

I'm gonna break out my Seatrain album and listen to "Song of Job" for the first time in a long while.
December 3rd, 2009 at 8:39 PM ^
aw shucks, when will this school catch a break?
I feel like any michigan fan wearing michigan gear should be able to get a job as a cooler at any casino in the country on the spot. Except, of course, even the casinos are pretty much down and out.
At least we can usually actually find a job...Yeah, that's what I'm reduced to.

have any commandments that we're supposed to be following?
Perhaps we're not cowering enough in fear or something.
I just get the feeling that as a Michigan fan, I've missed out on the Michigan BLANK-Hating God's chiseled memos the last few years.

I guess this would explain the 5 or 6 corners we've been recruiting. Welcome Cullen Christian, welcome indeed.

I can see it now, when the Freep loses its last couple of subscribers, Rosenberg and Sharp open an RR themed restaurant.
All the waiters, who must work more than 20 hours a week, wear M football jerseys with the Number 1 on them and, of course because it is not a family restaurant they swear at you.
The salad is topped with snake oil and vinegar.
The menus are shredded after each use.
They dont serve soup because there are no bowls in the restaurant.

I think Warren saw who was coming back last year, saw what happened to Bradford this year, and figured he might as well see if he can get drafted. Remember, though, that lots of top guys will put their names out, receive feedback saying they should stay one more year, and return. Maybe I'm being optimistic, but I'm not sure Warren is gone until he at least hears back from the committee.
As for Smith, kind of makes sense giving how that played out. Hopefully he will be able to step back into the line-up sometime next year, but at least the injury is at a position with some depth.

Warren leaving. Check.
Smith blows out his knee. Check.
Double dong punch. Check.

and like it.

Not surprised at all with Warren leaving. As much as I love M, he needs to leave and make his millions. Smith' ACL is a shining example of how fragile one's career can be. I was listening an NFL player on ESPN radio today (didn't catch the name) and he was saying he loved playing in college but by his senior year he was scared to death of an injury that would screw up his NFL career.
I did wonder about Smith. He played pretty darn well against OSU and I recall him getting hit pretty hard and going out of the game. I was thinking he had the wind knocked out of him and would be back but I dont recall him returning. I know he isn't big, but I rally liked him and thought he was awfully tough kid. I just hope he rehabs and comes back as better as ever.
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:48 PM ^
I guess this means the RB position next year will come down to Mike Cox, Shaw, and Toussaint unless Smith makes a comeback for the fall. I hope that Warren stays, but I already had rock bottom expectations for the pass defense, so this doesn't really change much.
December 4th, 2009 at 10:30 AM ^
to see great things from Toussaint. From his clips he seems like a good fit, perhaps the best fit for RR's style of offense. JMO, of course, but he reminds me of Slaton--about 5'9" - 5'10" 190, fast, makes one quick cut and then it's off to the races. I could be wrong, but that's what I see in Toussaint.

this would have been surprising news if not for the Mayan calendar predicting the demise of all Michigan sports in the year aught nine until the end of humanity aught twelve.

It's just not working. It should work. It had to work. It would have been so wonderful had it worked. So perfect.
But it didn't work.
We're finishing up year 2 of Amaker the Second. Everything was supposed to be so perfect. Like we would be another Duke, and under RR we would be the North's version of Florida.
Shit.
I just know someone's gonna cancel Christmas next.

I cant imagine he'd be anything higher than a 5th round pick. Id say a 6th or 7th but what do i know.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:31 PM ^
Has anyone else noticed that there were a ton of injuries this year? I think this a result of their strength and conditioning program. I've heard that Barwis overworks the players, and does not give them enough time for their bodies to rest. Alot of his workouts resemble things you would see at boot camp. They need to go back to the "old school" style of lifting and conditioning in my opinion.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:41 PM ^
Mike Gittleson!
December 3rd, 2009 at 11:28 PM ^
Should we blame conditioning for...
Torn ACLs? (Molk, V. Smith)
Broken feet? (Molk)
Concussions? (Brown)
Busted shoulder joints? (Forcier)
Sprained ankles? (Hemingway, Minor)
Maybe, MAYBE if the team was coming down with a rash of sprained hamstrings, back spasms, and torn biceps, you might have an argument. Maybe.
Go sit down.
December 3rd, 2009 at 11:46 PM ^
obvious troll. just joined today.
December 4th, 2009 at 8:13 AM ^
...but this makes no sense. A torn ACL on V. Smith and a broken foor on D. Molk have zero to do with "excess" conditioning. The injuries you might see from that we were actually pretty low from what I can see. There were not a lot of guys missing games here and there with muscle issues etc.
We were young - that was our problem and it will be eliminated.
December 4th, 2009 at 8:23 AM ^
yeah lets get go back to pizza and donut diet of the HIT program....That was effective for Benedict Boren.
December 4th, 2009 at 10:17 AM ^
Right, becuase under the old training system, our running backs never got hurt. Carlos Brown and Brandon Minor were injury plagued long before Barwis arrived on campus. Mike Hart spent his entire senior year (and much of his junior year) nursing an ankle injury.
You post is entirely uninformed. Are you aware that virtually every NFL team's strength and conditioning program is similar to Barwis' training regimin, and that the "old school" style of training has been almost entirely replaced. It is that old style of lifting that had our players so slow and fat that almost any team with a mobile quarterback toasted us offensively for much of the few years leading up to RR's arrival.
Yes, we need to have larger linemen, and we will once we recruit some massive guys over the next few years, but having massive linemen are too slow to keep up and who get winded in the 4th quarter doesn't serve any purpose.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:41 PM ^
How could our D next year be that much worse than it was this year? The only hope our D has is a major improvement on our offense. We needed to average 35+ a game this year to pull a winning record. Losing Warren does nothing to change that. Our performance next year will 100% be on the shoulders of the offense.
V. Smith hurts but another year for T. Forcier and the O'Line means we probably will be ok with RB corps we have now sans V. Smith.
I have a good feeling about our O next year. We lost some very close games to the top teams in the B10 this year.
December 3rd, 2009 at 10:49 PM ^
And did you know that Will Campbell is no longer considering Michigan!!!! Just sayin'.
