Are Beilein and RR fascinated with recruiting midgets?
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:05 PM ^
We need Vogrich to get hot.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:08 PM ^
I think it's a little premature to rely on him. He has had one good game...his first. Since then, he has looked like a total freshman. First things first...he needs to take a cue from freshman Stu Douglass and get a haircut.

Is this all we've got? Cronin was ten times the upgrade of both Sims and Gibson when he was in there. If he doesn't have pain then he should be in there. I was so hopeful for this team but I am very discouraged at the lack of ever changing our play style when the shots aren't falling. Holy Crap this is bad.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:35 PM ^
did you mean ever changing or never changing?
if you meant ever changing, well: if it's broke, fix it.
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:42 PM ^
I meant, in my spitting rage, it seems we do not alter from our gameplan if things go south. Maybe we don't have the right personnel or something else that I'm missing. It is similar to everyone knowing that Denard is going to run the ball when he gets in. We were softly tossing the ball back and forth around the perimeter until someone shot a three. I think once we were 5-26 from threes some kind of red flag should have gone up to change things a bit. At one point in the first half we almost had as many three point attempts as points! I hope our shooting whoas come to a hault and fast.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:06 PM ^
needs to play more. hes the only one that looks like he cares.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:34 PM ^
I'm glad everybody seems to be on board with Gibson now. I've been a fan for a while. In fact, I think he's got better hands than Sims.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:06 PM ^
We're in trouble if Zach Gibson is our best shooter from behind the arc.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:09 PM ^
Actually, he's got a pretty nice stroke (although it hasn't yet translated into a good percentage). He needs to play more. He's given us a lift all season.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:11 PM ^
I couldn't agree with you more. My point was we have like 6 guys who are, theoretically, more pure bombers than he is (Douglass, Novak, Manny, LLP, Morris, Vogrich...), and none of them have had any sort of rhythm the last several games.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:22 PM ^
Agree - it beggars belief that NONE of our perimeter guys can hit an open three.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:09 PM ^
footnote to our game -- illinois after 23 down on clemson is now up 2 with 4 to go...
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:09 PM ^
Does anyone know what has happened to this team? Did CJ Lee, David Merritt, Kelvin Grady, and Jevohn Shepherd really mean that much to this team? I thought we returned most of our true talent, but we seemed to have regressed horribly. Free throw shooting is a mere microcosm of this team.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:32 PM ^
Steve Lavin (i believe) made an interesting point during the Perdue game yesterday regarding the importance of having a fast, small, relentless on-the-ball defender was come tournament time, citing players like Tyus Edney and Ty Lawson. It made me think of the spark that Lindsey Hunter gave the Pistons during their title run. When you can create turnovers-- or at least hurried panic-- at the point, the mistakes follow. Last year, we had a combo of that player in Merritt/Grady/Lee. This year we don't have one. I expect to start seeing some more full court presses and/or half court traps run in order to make up for our lack of hardcore on-the-ball defender, which is crucial for success in a half-court defense.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:11 PM ^
When you got two special players like Harris and Simms you should run the pick n roll until they can barely breath anymore.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:24 PM ^
Or at least run it until the opposing D is so packed down that our shooters are wide open to let loose.

These commentators need to stick to basketball.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:13 PM ^
SORRY double post for some reason
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:14 PM ^
Terrible call on Gibson. Great effort.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:14 PM ^
rough call by the refs...but, god, do we rebound on this team? do we know how to run a true offense?
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:15 PM ^
BALL DON'T LIE!
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:15 PM ^
That was a clean Gibson block, terrible call
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:16 PM ^
Usually I would care, but today I do not care if Manny called bank before he shot that or not
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:16 PM ^
Banks open...I'll take it baby!!
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:18 PM ^
Until this team can get defensive rebounds they will lose every game. It's frustrating to watch as a fan. I can't imagine how it feels to be Beilein.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:23 PM ^
It'd help if we at least took our ill-advised shots with some rebounders in position. Frustrating indeed...
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:19 PM ^
Manny got hit on the arm. How the hell do you miss that?
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:22 PM ^
And we got away with no-calls all night as well. No loss so far this season has been the unfortunate result of poor officiating.
Speaking of, why is officiating blamed so much more frequently for losses in basketball than football? I have some hypotheses but am curious what others think. But a significant number of people have at least partially blamed officiating for our losses after each game so far.
A fun experiment: watch a basketball game on mute and ONLY look for fouls. I think you'll be surprised at how often you agree with the officiating.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
Why can't we do anything in winding seconds. It is all one on one, no plays are called, nothing. Poor, poor, poor end of game execution.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:14 PM ^
Penn State is going to cause us fits. They run a crisper, faster version of the same type of offense we try to run. But while their above-perimeter passes are done in effort to open up a backdoor lane or get a man open on the wing, we appear to be lackadaisically fulfilling some sort of passing quota before settling for a bad, contested shot with NO REBOUNDERS in position! Infuriating game tonight.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:21 PM ^
Few missed calls down the stretch by the officials, but it's the team's own damn fault for being blown out in the first 35 min.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:27 PM ^
Missed calls happen for both teams, not just UM. This game was a pathetic - absolutely horrible - effort from non-Manny Harris players and coaches. I am just stunned right now. We just lost and were beat in every facet of the game by a terrible Boston College team. I'm beside myself...I'm going to Ben and Jerry's to get an ice cream.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:37 PM ^
Gibson came to play. He should have gotten more minutes. (And if you live in A2, you should go to Stucchi's.)
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:49 PM ^
good call...support local!
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:22 PM ^
That rebound off the free throw was the perfect summation of the season so far. Ugliness. Free possessions.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:24 PM ^
lol.. illinois came back to win their game..
the only team that was facing a ranked ACC oponent today ends up winning...
It's up to Ohio State I guess..
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:19 PM ^
Dook is ranked.
Edit: But Wisconsin ain't care!
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:24 PM ^
They were down like 20 or more. Sweet win there.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:25 PM ^
Whoa.
In terms of Michigan athletics, 2009-2010 is now officially dubbed the year of recalibrated expectations.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:25 PM ^
The boys gotta get off to better starts.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:28 PM ^
Well, Illinois made a ridiculous comeback against Clemson, who absolutely crumbled after being up by over 20 points. Nice coaching, Purnell.
We all know what Michigan did (or didn't do).
Minnesota is currently down 8 with :22 left.
B10 - 4
ACC - 5
Unless Wisconsin and Ohio State win, this is yet another defeat at the hands of ACC basketball. Argh.
December 2nd, 2009 at 11:45 PM ^
I give you full and complete credit for both Wisconsin and Ohio State winning tonight. Big Ten = ACC busters
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:40 PM ^
What in the hell is with Duke's jerseys? Did Nike cook up some weird-ass shit for them, too?
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:47 PM ^
Those are their alternate uniforms. They've had them for a few years.
December 2nd, 2009 at 10:02 PM ^
Blech, they are something ugly.
December 2nd, 2009 at 9:46 PM ^
This is very depressing.
