Alternate Recruiting Path

Does anyone besides myself prefer to maybe get Hankins, Beachum, and Mathis than maybe Hankins/Beachum, Murphy, and Grimes? This is of course assume the 3 spots are all we have available and no one decommits. I'm higher on Grimes, but do not like that it includes Murphy.

I have been wrong before and will be in the past but what the heck is up with all this talk about Mathis. Unless something has changed, I don't think UM is really pressing for the kid and I don't think he has very much love for U of M. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

UM cooled on him a long time ago. Frankly I am amazed that anyone is all that excited at the prospect of another undersized corner playing in our defensive backfield. To me he is an absolute clone of Cissoko. I like Cissoko, but was never very impressed with his play. Give me Grimes, Beachum, Murphy, Knight and Furman and let the chips fall where they may come September. edit. I mean some may not qualify, opening some spots.

I'm really tired of people "not liking Murphy." If the coaches want the kid and he signs, I'm in favor of him coming to Michigan, getting a free education, and working to be the best football player he can be.

I don't understand how people here look at star rankings and determine which player "doesn't deserve an offer" or is going to be "the first one slowplayed". Granted, some may be coaches or even know some about football, but the entire idea of people judging these players based on rankings by two websites is getting silly. If the coaches offer a player and the player seems interested, then just let it be and see how it all plays out.

Coaching decisions will be questioned until the end of time. Whether someone is questioning the decision to punt on 4th-and-1, a choice to play Player A over Player B, etc., it's going to happen. Saying "Player X doesn't deserve an offer" is just as valid as any of the other stuff; in other words, if you don't think people should question who we offer, then I sure hope you don't ever say "We should have gone for it on 4th down rather than punting" or something like that. All of those things fall under the category of questioning coaching decisions.

I totally agree with your first point actually. And I'm not saying that we shouldn't question Rodriguez and his staff; I've said multiple times that they're human too and they mess up. The problem I have is that people on here (and in general everywhere that follow recruiting) just look at the stars and think they know a player better than coaches do. But like I said, maybe people know more than I think and can judge talent and predict how classes will go. I'm just saying let it go and let the process play itself out.

I am pretty sure that the UM coaching staff has a better idea of who is interested in signing an LOI than anyone that visits this blog. So, there is no way to know that any one recruit is "more worthy" than another. Sure, it's fun to speculate, but that's about the best that can be done. Signing Day is when things will fall into place and that's still a long ways off.
