Before we freak out, remember that we never heard of this guy 3 weeks ago.

Srsly?

It seems that Henri the Otter of Ennui has hunkered down in these parts.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:59 PM ^
I think we'll be fine.
I'd put the over under on new 4/5 star recruits at 2.5 and I'll take the over.

AMAIZING NEWS is about to happen!
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
I believe in Jay Harbaugh.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:30 PM ^
I will have quit drinking and gone to bed by 10 pm.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:43 PM ^
the ridiculous, over-the-top Harbaughmania that afflicted so many around here led them to think that all it took was a visit from Jim to flip kids who've built up one- or two-year relationships with the schools who've been recruiting them since way before JH got here. Recruiting doesn't work that way, even if you've coached in a Super Bowl.
We'll still get a bunch of good kids in the 2015 class—hell, lightning might strike with Willliamson—but we have to wait until 2016 to truly gauge how well the staff can recruit.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:46 PM ^
To be fair, this is also an entirely new Florida coaching staff. So we're just getting beat here.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:51 PM ^
For a kid from Georgia. In Jnauary.
It's amazing he looked this way at all.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:54 PM ^
It's #amaizing he looked this way at all.
Fixed it for you.
Love,
Jay Harbaugh

I think you might be underestimating the difficulty in getting kids from the deep South up to Michigan, or any other northern schools for that matter. The vast majority of talented Southern recruits stay south of the Mason-Dixon line. It was that way 20 years ago, and it's that way now, especially if a coaching staff hasn't had time to build relationships with recruits down there.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:50 PM ^
Based on what we're seeing here of late, this place is going to be insufferable after Harbaugh's 2nd loss.
The 1st one will be explained away as "well he was not going to win them all!" But the 2nd one? As Spanky says "Oh Boy!".
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:53 PM ^
Huh? What?
Harbaugh could actually lose a game? Nobody told me that.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:09 PM ^
Buckle up.
There will be a loss, perhaps even two in Harbaugh's 18 year stay at Michigan.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:37 PM ^
especially if it's to MSU or OSU. Total meltdown.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:21 PM ^
Don,
Sometimes it does work that way. See Urban Meyers first class at OSU. He DID have an extra month, BUT he flipped several kids that had long standing relationships with other schools. And yes, after a visit.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:58 PM ^
which I'd guess was critical. Not to mention the fact that Meyer had just finished a six-year stint at FLA, and even though he was off for one year, he was probably was already familiar with at least some of the OSU recruits. During that time, JH was in the NFL.
I won't argue with you about Meyer's recruiting chops; his classes at Florida were #15, 2, 1, 3, 11, and 2. The highest-ranked class Harbaugh got at Stanford was #20. Maybe that's attributable to Stanford's admission standards, but Meyer has proven he's capable of bringing in the highest-rated classes in the country. JH has yet to prove that.
Given what we know about Harbaugh, I'm not anticipating he's going to do that anyhow—I think he's going to rub some portion of the top, elite recruits the wrong way, because he's not going to kiss their ass the way they're used to. I think the same applies to Beilein.
February 2nd, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
Not to mention that at least one of the key flips for Meyer was from Penn State for which there's nothing equivalent this or any other year.
February 2nd, 2015 at 11:43 PM ^
Meyer had the gargantuan task of persuading kids to come to a program that had gone 106-22 from 2001-2010, with three appearances in the NC game along the way. The 6-7 2011 season was seen as a one-year blip caused by Tressel's forced departure.
Contrast that with Harbaugh's task: persuading kids to come to a program coming off the most disappointing seven-year stretch of Michigan football since the late '50s and early '60s.
February 2nd, 2015 at 11:53 PM ^
So very true. Some of the mania around here has been nuts.
I think this staff will have success on the recruiting trail, but they'll have to work for it just like everyone else.
I hope this staff is better at (quick) talent development than the last staff. Time will tell.

Hello: Florida
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:31 PM ^
I hope we have a plan. A 12/13 recruit class is small but not devastating to the class imbalance. We need to recruit a large class next year.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:21 PM ^
I hope Harbaugh knows this!
February 3rd, 2015 at 8:11 AM ^
My guess is he, nor anyone else on the staff, knows how to do the maths.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:32 PM ^
going to florida. two off the list. not saying they were coming here. we offered them
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:36 PM ^
Can you not type in bold everytime, k thanks.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:37 PM ^
That's a bold statement. Get it?
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:33 PM ^
Never understood why JH didn't pursue Marcus Lewis - a CB higher rated than Arnette and Williamson.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:42 PM ^
I'm not saying the recruiting services arent important, because I feel we have ample evidence to say that on a wide scale basis, theyre right more than theyre wrong, but here I'm going to trust Harbaugh on this.
February 2nd, 2015 at 10:53 PM ^
He loved his visit to the BBQ and was/is uncommitted.
February 3rd, 2015 at 12:47 AM ^
There is the possibility that there were factors not related to football ability that caused the staff to stop recruiting him
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:31 PM ^
I will contemplate a dirt nap if this doesn't go well.

But only if the dirt is sand and it's on a Caribbean beach with unlimited complimentary drinks and an amazingly beautiful woman who somehow actually finds me attractive and nice to be around, yet gives me the space to be me.
I can feel the sun now.

He loves Tom Brady. I take this as a good sign.
Can someone contact Brady and tell him to give this man a call.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:39 PM ^
Is that okay under the NCAA rules? I think Tom's probably busy anyway.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:40 PM ^
I mean, he's not allowed to do that.
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:51 PM ^
Maybe Tom could become an unpaid recruiting assistant like Harbaugh was for WKU and his dad, while he was still playing in the NFL.....Hmmm
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:35 PM ^
What the staff needs to do is attack each day with great vengeance and furious anger
February 2nd, 2015 at 9:45 PM ^
That's the problem...they're scaring the recruits.
