Rumor: Former Paramus Catholic HC to join UM in some capacity
There's some rumors out there that Michigan could be adding a recruiting coordinator/assistant with very strong ties to Paramus Catholic HS
— MGoFish (@MGoFish) January 26, 2015
Jabril Pepper's former coach. Would probably give us a huge in with #1 2016 DT Rashan Gary.

Is this the guy Rutgers yanked the job offer from?

Yes

Wasn't there some recent discussion here of a beastly DE at Paramus in '16?
January 26th, 2015 at 1:29 PM ^
Yes, Rashan Gary. #1 DT, #2 overall on 247 composite.

How would that work out with the headcount - 9 ACs & 2 GAs, would he be a GA?
January 25th, 2015 at 8:42 PM ^
Aren't the recruiting coordinator and those under them considered admin positions and not a coaching positions?
January 25th, 2015 at 9:08 PM ^
I am surprised. It sounds like he made some huge enemies at Paramus Catholice for recruiting and that's what caused the Rutgers offer. Rutgers assumed they would do well at Paramus but would be blacklisted everywhere else with the main concern being Don Bosco. It may not be as much of problem for Michigan but I would still think it would be a concern.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:40 PM ^
He can be hired as recruiting coordinator without an issue as there isn't a limit placed on these off field non coaching positions. He may be able to work his way onto sidelines when someone leaves.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:41 PM ^
I believe it's a recruiting analyst position. Supposedly Bama has a department of guys who just look at film or high school prospects. Sort of like a first layer before they get to coaches
January 25th, 2015 at 11:01 PM ^
This is an administrative position.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:04 PM ^
Programs have large support staffs that don't count as coaches.

Wow, ask a legit question - no sarcasm, no redundant gifs - but you get down voted. Haters gonna hate!
January 25th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
It's funny; Peppers said Hoke was exactly like Partridge and was one of the reasons why he felt at home here.

"Oooh, that's a bingo. Is that the way you say it, 'That's a bingo?'"

Damn good deal!

Sam retweeted this from an NFL guy
Congrats to #Eagles pro personnel asst Joe Hastings (also a former #49ers WR) who just landed a job with U of Michigan football.

We are apparently also bringing in an Eagles personnel guy named Joe Hastings, who was also an NFL wide receiver, according to Adam Caplan's twitter.

I think San Fran signed him in 2011. Not sure he ever played.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:40 PM ^
I heard him speak at the coaching clinic last year (maybe ther year before) seems like a sharp guy and his program was like a small college program not high school. It was impressive.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:44 PM ^
The coaches in Jersey hate him and is believed to be the reason Rutgers did a 180 on the hire. Could have hurt them in recruiting the state
January 25th, 2015 at 8:54 PM ^
Was having second thoughts signing with Rutgers and Michigan swooped in.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:00 PM ^
not sure if sarcasm but from what I read, Rutgers didn't like how he was handling himself during the negotiations
January 25th, 2015 at 9:32 PM ^
rescinding the offer because it would hurt them in recruiting? Kind of reminds of Harbaugh not coming here because his wife wouldn't leave the bay area and the Bears was his dream job.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:54 PM ^
That's exactly it. Rutgers depends on Jersey talent. Schools like Don Bosco, Bergen Catholic (whose HC has a brother on staff at Rutgers), St. Peter's Prep, etc., would be hesitant to deal with him. Not saying it will completely hurt recruiting but it will cause issues
January 25th, 2015 at 8:41 PM ^
I'm not sure that it's a net advantage to U-M to have him on the staff.

If Sam's retweet reflects something real, looks like it's a moot point.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:45 PM ^
I don't think Hastings and Partridge's positiions would be mutually exclusive.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:45 PM ^
He probably rubbed other coaches the wrong way, like running up score and recruiting players stuff like that

So he's ticked off a lot of people. Who does that sound like?
January 25th, 2015 at 9:25 PM ^
I can see Dantonio *trying* this on JH and failing miserably
January 25th, 2015 at 10:40 PM ^
Even though I never liked the 49ers and the Lions are my favorite NFL team, I thought Harbaugh was right from the start. Schwartz came off as an immature ninny. Don't blame Coach Harbaugh one bit for the "Go f*ck yourself."
January 25th, 2015 at 8:52 PM ^
He built that program pretty quick and coaches believe he stole Jabril from Don Bosco Prep, a powerhouse coached by Greg Toal who's legend in that state. Plus he brought the flashy jerseys and bravado.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:04 PM ^
Some guy in the comment section was saying that Partridge was in Michigan today meeting with Harbaugh.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:07 PM ^
If Rutgers ticks off some of the HS coaches in NJ it could hurt them quite a bit. We haven't been getting their players anyway. If Partridge attracts one or two top players from his old school, it's probably a net plus for us in NJ too.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:42 PM ^
i swear harbaugh doesnt miss anything.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:37 PM ^
In part, he may be doing a favor for his former player Blake Costanzo. It could have become an awkward situation at Paramus.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:43 PM ^
So that's at least 2 guys we're bringing in to help with recruiting/evaluating in addition to Singletary. This can only be a good thing.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:43 PM ^
The expansion of the recruiting support staff is well underway. Everything is going exactly to plan.
January 25th, 2015 at 9:01 PM ^
So Harbaugh is building this like Alabama where we have a committee for recruiting instead of one guy. me likey
January 25th, 2015 at 9:17 PM ^
Harbaugh plays all the cards in the deck.
January 25th, 2015 at 8:44 PM ^
Their former head coach will be an assistant here and there head coach right now played under Harbaugh??? Hello Rashan Gary!
