212° the extra degree
Who is willing to go the extra degree! I am in! How about you? @CoachJim4UM @coachjeddfisch@JayHarbaugh@CoachWheat6 pic.twitter.com/h9fz1Qbd5p

So can someone explain the 212 significance?

Okay... then can anyone explain the motivational meaning behind this?
January 24th, 2015 at 6:24 PM ^
Water doesn't boil at 211. So we need to have the extra degree to boil water on the field.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:49 PM ^
What if you're at a higher elevation!?!?!
January 24th, 2015 at 6:57 PM ^
nonvolatile solute!

We open on the road AT UTAH! 4,327 feet above sea level!!
January 24th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
100 degree Celsius would be cool in parentheses next to it.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:26 PM ^
Yes and let's all have a poutine and maple syrup party.
January 24th, 2015 at 8:09 PM ^
I like the way you think, eh.
January 24th, 2015 at 8:41 PM ^
shouldn't you rather have churros?
January 24th, 2015 at 8:43 PM ^
I appreciate it kind senor
January 24th, 2015 at 8:54 PM ^
oops I thought your name was frita baditos

why not use Kelvin then

Would be great with some better music, rather than elevator music.

I think this video presents a good case to bring up physics and science...just saying.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:24 PM ^
Water is hot, and 212 degrees it boils, hence go the extra degree to gain steam. There are also motivational books around 212 degrees.
January 24th, 2015 at 7:30 PM ^
since we will be steamrolling our opponents.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:22 PM ^
When I went to the camp, they played a video with that as the message. Was pretty neat. During Hoke's first year
January 24th, 2015 at 6:24 PM ^
It's actually an interesting metaphor. Most of the energy when you heat something is used in the last degree, when you actually complete the phase transition (like from liquid to gas). It's pretty easy to get water to 211 degrees, but takes a lot to get it to boil.
And if you watch it, it will never boil.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:39 PM ^
boiling is when the vapor pressure is equivalent to the external, so at 211 you still have a substantial amount of steam produced from the water. It'd fit the metaphor they're going for if they specified a quantum leap between electronic states and had two different frequencies of light that were close but one was insufficient.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:43 PM ^
There was absolutely no reason whatsoever to bring physics and reality into this discussion.

Nightmares from P.Chem. resurfaced
January 24th, 2015 at 8:11 PM ^
I do like the quantum state reference and think Michigan football should make the leap, particularly if the observed state is a win!
January 24th, 2015 at 10:03 PM ^
So now that there is less pressure on this team it will boil quicker?

I'm gonna need Bill Belichick to confirm this
January 24th, 2015 at 6:40 PM ^
well beyond that temperature you can light stuff on fire with it. Matches are easy to ignite and flash cotton as well. I've gotten paper to scorch but never fully catch so far.
January 24th, 2015 at 6:43 PM ^
Well it is definitely better than 'hard edge'
January 24th, 2015 at 7:18 PM ^
We watch this video every month at our sales meetings to be 212.
January 24th, 2015 at 8:02 PM ^
if you're in education....
January 25th, 2015 at 11:37 AM ^
I am all for motivation but it has to come from within and as a manager you need to find the key things in each of your employees that motivates them and key on that. There are so many of these vids out there that it not only becomes redundant but eventually counter productive imo. I use to joke that you need to also understand that at 212 degrees, you also can get severly burned. It also doesn't help, as I have witnessed, when you have a managment team that shows you the video and talks about putting out a great effort and then goes out and underminds you. So it is why I tend to view these cliched and formulaic sales/motivation programs with a tinge of cynism.
January 24th, 2015 at 7:23 PM ^
as a sales guy ive heard the 212 many times. I guess i was hoping for something i hadnt heard a million times. Im sure Jimbo will make it work though.
January 24th, 2015 at 7:29 PM ^
That's 373.15 Kelvin.
January 24th, 2015 at 7:33 PM ^
Is he a recruit?
January 24th, 2015 at 7:40 PM ^
Absolute(ly) zero about him.

That these kids get are better then what is shown here? Have you seen some of these teams lockers with safes, tv's, iPhone hook ups etc.
Can anyone elaborate of show more photos?
January 24th, 2015 at 7:53 PM ^
The actual football locker room is much nicer than this. Perhaps this is a practice area?
January 24th, 2015 at 9:11 PM ^
This is the home locker room at the stadium. The one at Schembechler Hall is a lot different.
January 25th, 2015 at 2:01 AM ^
Yeah who gives a shit about iPads and shit for the game day locker room? I'd rather have it as minimal as possible. Focus.
January 24th, 2015 at 7:33 PM ^
In California with better locker rooms

This is the locker room at the stadium, not the one in Schembechler hall which is very nice, with a sunken area in the middle of the room for the seniors.
