OT: Friday afternoon/night drinking thread.
This being my first MGoBlog thread, and being I'm very good at drinking, I thought I'd make a drinking thread.
First off, a "neat story bro." I was in grad school at Berkely and was walking down Haight (yes, that Haight in San Fran) with my wife. Of course I was maize and blue head to toe. A woman in her 50's-60's in an easily $3000 suit was walking towards me. As soon as she saw me she stopped and yelled "GO BLUE! BEAT THOSE BUCKS!" then high fived me and went on her way. Anyhoo.
I worked until 9pm last night so I got off work at noon and started the day with a Short's Soft Parade. I know it is out of season but damn it tates good with lunch (Erbelli's pizza). Since I got home I have been imbibing Bell's HopSlam with some Old Speckled Hen tossed in there. Chasing my beer with Grey Goose (always stored freezer) and room temp. Crown Royal.
What're you drinking tonight? I need some ideas to add to my arsenal.

Moose Drool and Dirty Bastard
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:44 PM ^
I used to say Moose Drool was my favorite beer, but I haven't had it since I worked in North Dakota in '04 so I'm not sure anymore. Good choice.
I went to the bottle shop and unknowingly got two brews from Brooklyn - Sixpoint Resin and Evil Twin Hop Flood. A few sips into the first Resin and I'm starting to think the names should be reversed.

of Water. Setting a good example for my 5 year old son.

Example schmample.
If they don't see daddy drunk, how will they ever learn it is the weekend?
January 23rd, 2015 at 9:16 PM ^
They don't have to go to school? Or better yet, the Michigan football game is on.

Nah. My idea wins.

Just your basic bottom shelf headache in a glass.
January 23rd, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
Getting my head start at the office with some glenmorangie 10.
When I get home I'll probably go for my Springbank 15, and maybe some GlenDronach 12. Might throw some Islay action in there as well for a nightcap.
January 23rd, 2015 at 4:55 PM ^
I'm having some Johnny Walker Double Black, whilst my fiancé will either be having Lindemann's Framboise or some Riesling. Hoping to have friends over and play some Cards Against Humanity.
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:40 PM ^
Cheers to the Bay Area! Will be cracking open a Sierra Nevada later to unwind after a hectic week in the lab. Such is the life of a doctoral student.

Ice cold Rolling Rock...the beer that goes down like water!
January 23rd, 2015 at 4:56 PM ^
Equal parts each, plus grapefruit juice and cranberry juice. Don't try it for yourself, just experimenting this evening.
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:48 PM ^
Hey! That sounds good until you said "don't try it."
Just kidding. I was thinking it prolly tastes like tortoise vomit.
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:00 PM ^
I'm still at work so water. I'll be pounding some beers later tonight.
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:01 PM ^
New Glarus Spotted Cow and Temperance Gatecrasher when I get home.
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:29 PM ^
Had a New Glarus Moon Man. Amongst the best beers I've ever had.
To respond to the OP.... I'm more of a beer guy .. + Red wine with meals, a good bloody mary, a G and T on a hot summer day, and Cook's Magazine's remarkable margarita. All that said, the GF likes fancy cocktails. Try this, a "Sherlock and Watson" ...
Make 1 cup of very strong tea and dissolve 4 tablespoons of honey in it - refridgerate. Then take two oz decent blended scotch add 1 oz tea mix, dash cardomom bitters (yeah it's complicated), and 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice. Shake hard with ice in a cocktail mixer and pour.
This thing is delicious and I'm having one tonight.
January 23rd, 2015 at 5:50 PM ^
Sherlock & Watson sounds good. I'll definitely try it. Thanks!

Since I'm sitting at a buffet style restaurant (hate buffets) with just me and my 6 n 4 yr old girls I will be consuming all of the alcohol when we get home.
Probably start with either a Long Island ice tea or tequila sunrise. Then will have a 3-2-1 margarita while watching the hockey game later. Have to work at 4am. Poop.

As of 6 years ago. It was a "this one time, at band camp, when I lived in Cali" story.

Ordered a shot of Amaretto. Damned server put the drink down in from of my 1.5 year old daughter. In about 0.3 seconds, she chugged it. Acorn don't fall far. She slept well that night.
Fun side note. Server = my wife. Bad mommy.

Founders black rye
Sent from MGoBlog HD for iPhone & iPad
January 23rd, 2015 at 7:49 PM ^
I just finished my first one a short while ago, just before going online here.
I enjoyed it with a few slices of Palermo's Pepperoni Pizza, one of the better frozen pizzas around. This Black Ale, though, was just tremendous, with great amount of hops bitterness well-balanced with some roasted malts and subtle sweetness.
But now, a tough choice: a 2nd Founders Black Rye , or should I instead go to one of these,
which have been chillin' since my purchase yesterday.
January 23rd, 2015 at 7:50 PM ^
I'd go with the Hopslam. But the Rye is pretty good too.
January 23rd, 2015 at 8:05 PM ^
Just started my second black rye. I'm a little dissatisfied with hopslam this year. Same unique hop taste and character but it just didn't grab my mouth like I expected it too.

In one hour, I'll start my Michigan hockey happy hour. Probably something from New Glarus Brewing. Then a fish fry. Then a walk to the Kohl Center. Then a victory march home.
