Back on topic. Eat it MadtownMaize! ;)

Seriously though...Lou Holtz needs to be put out to pasture. And if you aren't convinced, then let me draw your attention to some advice "Dr. Lou" gave to Miami's football team after their first loss this year. This is an actual quote from "Dr. Lou":

"The losing team had 4 players: everybody, anybody, somebody, and nobody.

They were all given an important task. Everybody was to do it; everybody felt sure that somebody would do it, because anybody could do it, but nobody did it. Somebody got mad because it was everybody's job...everybody felt that because anybody could do it, but nobody realized that somebody didn't do it.

In the end everybody got mad at somebody because nobody did what anybody could do."

That's either pure genius and above my comprehension or Lou is fucking crazy. It's nice of ESPN to hire retirees though, I guess.

I translated the "body's" to names ... still not sure I get it :(

"The losing team had 4 players: Lou, Tyrone, Charlie, and Jimmay.

They were all given an important task. Lou was to do it; Lou felt sure that Charlie would do it, because Tyrone could do it, but Jimmay did it. Charlie got mad because it was Lou's job...Lou felt that because Tyrone could do it, but Jimmay realized that Charlie didn't do it.

In the end Lou got mad at Charlie because Jimmay did what Tyrone could do."

from one of those motivational posters you see in corporate employee breakrooms or maybe in high-school bandrooms. (I'd be surprised if anyone is hearing this doggerel for the first time.) If Holtz indeed rendered it correctly then I'm impressed, although failure to cite sources is a scholarly infraction.

How great is it when they do those mock trials where him and May pick a side. I believe good ole lou thinks he's actually representing someone in real life... I can't stand him, but for some reason I just laugh at how ridiculous he is during those segments.

It's going to take a big man to fill Charlie's shoes. I suggest Mangino. num num num.

Seriously though, the ideas that the media has about who ND will get to replace Weis are way overblown. I'm surprised we haven't heard about how Bill Parcells or Bill Belichick would jump at the opportunity to coach at ND.

They hired Greg Mattison and then Corwin Brown; that made sure they knew what UM was going to run and the best way to defend it. The best way to ensure that even if you suck, you can still compete in your rivarlry games is to hire someone from their coaching tree. I would expect ND to hire an ex-RR person as one of their coaches on defense soon, too, especially if UM wins next year.

Back to Carroll and USC, hiring the coach who has drubbed them more than any coach in history is a great way to say, "if you can't beat them, buy them."

I think ND should offer Nick Saban and Urban Meyer co-head coach positions at ND. Maybe they would turn it down, I don't know. But Notre Dame has to believe that they Saban and Meyer would be honored to co-coach Notre Dame.

List of names of coaches I've heard Domers talk about gettingfor their next head coach:

Carroll
Stoops
Meyer
Belichick
Dungy
Gruden

List of coaches who absolutely will not be Notre Dame's head coach next year:

Carroll
Stoops
Meyer
Belichick
Dungy
Gruden

Notre Dame needs to learn that tradition is completely irrelevant in today's college football if it isn't backed up with wins.
