OT - Bolivia Now a Desirable Destination?
The New York Times, in today's travel section, listed the "52 Places to Go in 2015."
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/01/11/travel/52-places-to-go-in…
Check out #8 on the list.
Do we need to find a new place to send those who misbehave?
Where should we send those who commit egregious MGoTransgressions?

This message board has been on a major downhill for the past 18 months.

You're right, that whole swap Dave Brandon and Brady Hoke for an interim AD and Jim Harbaugh thing has been just a disaster.

Or just at the institution the site supports?

One of the major strikes against Brandon (there were about 14) came to light on the site. Then the site provided the most accurate and responsible reporting on the coaching change. Soooooo, yeah.

Cleveland? Say what is on that list. That's a joke.
January 11th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
Cleveland is a pretty cool city. Hate to say it.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:05 AM ^
Great food to eat in Cleveland. The majority of people who make fun of it have never been there, or they were there once 20 years ago.

It's in that god awful state of Ohio. It's automatically knocked down a peg or 12.
January 11th, 2015 at 10:32 PM ^
You do know the source of Bolivia, right? It was a riff on Mike Tyson's quote "I guess I'm just gonna fade into Bolivian." I remember this popping up on the blog back in 08.

So all we have to do is wait for another high-profile, undereducated athlete with CTE to make a well-quoted malapropism referencing a city, state or country during an interview.
Piece of cake.

What about Belize from Breaking Bad?

Especially if you like diving.

If people are being rebellion, mods could send them to the scrip club. (P.M. Jones). Of course they'll have to be careful getting there, because if you don't know where you're going you might end up somewhere else. (Y. Berra)

If I recall a poster actually said it in earnest. The replies pointed out the Tyson reference.

The poster was trying to say "negged into oblivion" and it came out "Bolivian".

I believe you are almost correct, FTW. IIRC, it was still the Wild West here, Seth was still going by his nom de plume, Brian descended from on high into board depths more often, and some of his old buds (formerly anonymous et al) still hung around. I believe with the post in question, the original poster was woefully and innocently unaware of his faux pax, leading to the snarky and sarcastic piling on and adaptation of Bolivian by the board at large.
And there were some epic flame wars, where poster stupidity (choosing to reply belligerently multiple times in your own already negative post) allowed for massive piling on of negs. I vaguely recall guys having downwards of 70 in negative points for a single post, with maybe a dozen or more posts in the same thread. If you invoked the wrath of the board community, with some members having a very long and punitive memory, you could quickly descend into Bolivian without help from ever watchful moderators.
It would be interesting if someone with access to the bowels of mgoblog history could sleuth up the maximum cumulative negs and maximum cumulative posbangs in a single thread, sans the Gandalfian wizardry of mods or proprieters adding or deleting ungodly numbers of points in one fell swoop. I'd hazard a guess that Raback or TomVH would top the list of positive points, for some post breaking the news of an upcoming commitment. (WD might be up there, but this is obscured by the dispensation of 1,000,000 special points.)
It would be harder for me to remember who had the maximum negative total. Posters like that often chose to go down in an inglorious blaze of blind board hatred and fury, burning board bridges, receiving the dreaded ban hammer, and not only "going to Bolivia," but truly "fading into oblivion," lost in the mists of ether memory.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:52 AM ^
I noticed that WD's dispensation has been adjusted.
January 12th, 2015 at 10:58 AM ^
When you go to adjust points there's an option to give an end date to return points back to what they would be without the mod pos/negbang. PGB set WD's points to expire on New Years.

Interesting. In years of lurking, I never understood it as a specific reference, just mgoblog zanniness.

Bolivia is still incredibly poor, but I imagine it's still a pretty awesome place. I was recently in South America, and that is definitely a continent on the rise.
January 11th, 2015 at 10:51 PM ^
You might want to hit some more countries. Taxes and government corruption is getting worse. I have been a lot and it's not on the rise at all. Fun to party, but a shitty place to live. It's why they have to get visas to come here, and we do for reciprocation. It's physically sinking too as the Continent is done growing between plates and the ocean rises.
January 11th, 2015 at 11:54 PM ^
"It's physically sinking too as the Continent is done growing between plates and the ocean rises."
This sounds like continental drift. Do you have a timetable for this?
Let me throw out a general idea of the timeline involved (Britannica):
Pangea was fully assembled by the Early Permian Period, some 270 million years ago. It began to break apart about 200 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic Period, eventually forming the modern continents and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.

It was pretty awesome when I was there many years ago (and young and adventurous), and despite the implication from Mike Tyson, I managed to return. I didn't even have to adopt a new screen name, either.

the unbelievers to search "Granite city food and brewery birmingham michigan" at url "www.google.com/maps/"[.] (Period is placed outside the quotation marks because, sometimes, proper grammar is a diabolically deceptive piece of shit.)
That will wipe the smirks off their faces. Or rather, it will put the smirks on their faces.
