Ohio State allowed unlimited practice for championship
January 7th, 2015 at 8:22 PM ^
While, yes, it's ridiculous, I doubt Urbz is going to be trying to run them into the ground this week.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:27 PM ^
Required film time with the coaches and team meetings count toward the time limit. So does three hours for the actual game. You can accomplish quite a bit more in preparation without running your players into the ground.

You don't want to do too much teaching this week. I doubt Urb goes over 20 hours anyway. You have routines and you keep them. I wouldn't be surprised if Cardale spent more time with the coach but that's about it.

Streaching!

What the hell is streaching?!?
January 7th, 2015 at 9:21 PM ^
and yes, you can get in trouble for that

Should've used the "jerk store" comeback....

Streaching!
Sigh. So close.

We're going streaking!!!!!!

It just didn't execute well.
Of course now that Harbaugh is at Michigan I need to update my own humor repertoire.
January 7th, 2015 at 9:22 PM ^
I agree that Meyer won't practice them any harder than an in-season game week. But it would be funny if he did, just to see Oregon outscore them 28-0 in the fourth quarter.
January 8th, 2015 at 5:37 AM ^
I'd agree it would make sense not to practice they folks that will play in the game any harder than normal. But wouldn't it makes sense to use the extra practice time to get players further down the depth chart a lot of reps?
January 7th, 2015 at 8:22 PM ^
Is In.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:22 PM ^
If the NCAA is quick enough to approve the request to assist players families in their travel costs for the championship game, they can probably fix this. They should at least.

They will still probably stick to their usual regimen, no sense in changing the things that got you to the big game.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:26 PM ^
Oregon had a similar advantage the week against MSU I believe... It's some odd quirk with the rules.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:29 PM ^
Really? Somehow I doubt this. I don't think teams are allowed unlimited practice time in the month leading up to games. I thought there were limits as well. I assumed this was a rules oversight because the playoff was new or something.

Does Oregon not have to abide by this rule in September?! I think I've read they aren't in school yet like most schools. I could be wrong.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:49 PM ^
correct. Oregon uses terms rather than semesters. this means they start classes later than most schools and theoretically gives them an early season advantage.
January 7th, 2015 at 11:15 PM ^
Oregon terms this year:
- Fall: 9/29 to 12/12
- Winter: 1/5 to 3/20
- Spring: 3/30 to 6/12
Northwestern quarters this year:
- Fall: 9/23 to 12/12
- Winter: 1/5 to 3/20
- Spring: 3/30 to 6/12
Not seeing that late-start advantage from Pat Fitzgerald's guys recently.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:27 PM ^
Bullshit. When do people finally stand up to them. They got to have 2 coaching staffs at one time as well.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:30 PM ^
Is so stupid.
Make a calendar and pick the dates for everyone to follow. It's not rocket science.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:28 PM ^
They'll need it. I think Oregon can push the buckeyes harder in this game than they can push back.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:32 PM ^
Well they aren't here for school afterall
January 7th, 2015 at 8:33 PM ^
All I have to say about this is, Go Ducks!

folks who could change a few windows at a certain downtown Columbus company HQ to spell something different. There are a few possibilities.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:33 PM ^
Does "school" ever start for either of those programs?
January 7th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
We didn't come here to play skoolz.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:35 PM ^
It seems like they are able to get away with anything. It is like the bully at school who weasels his way out of trouble everytime. Can't wait for Harbs to take down these cheaters.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:36 PM ^
As long as they don't stretch for 20 extra fucking minutes!
January 7th, 2015 at 8:37 PM ^
GO DUCKS!!!!!!!!!
January 7th, 2015 at 8:38 PM ^
It's because they don't play school.
January 7th, 2015 at 8:40 PM ^
It's not surprising when you also have the example 3 years ago of Meyer getting to actively recruit for OSU while Fickell was still the head coach.

Ohio State is on a semester system and does not start 2nd semester classes until Monday. Oregon is on the quarter system and is currently in class. The 20 hr. rule does not apply if classes are not in session. That was true for Oregon's late start of classes to open the season, thus the Oregon advantage vs Sparty.
And Urban is so taking advantage of it that he gave the team the day off today. No practice. No meetings.
Yawn.

Or they were just better

January 7th, 2015 at 8:49 PM ^
So did Oregon have a week in November/December while OSU was in school? Seems like this should even out on the front end.
January 7th, 2015 at 10:05 PM ^
As I pointed out above, Oregon had its advantage at the beginning of the season. They were not in class yet when they played Sparty while Sparty was in class.
January 8th, 2015 at 12:13 AM ^
Sparty was in class
