Michigan Hockey

Alright boyss lets talk some puck here. Michigan's hockey team hasn't looked as strong as we expected them to be going into 2010 but they are starting to pick up the pace and on Saturday picked up a good 2-1 win over BG. Unfortunately State's swept us twice but I won't lie MSU has a good team this year and so does Miami. These Redhawks are GOOD. 6 wins and 1 loss have the Redhawks 1st in the nation. Michigan has two big home games coming up this week against Minnesota on the 27th and Wisconsin on the 28th. Both games would help the Wolverines home record, keep Michigan in the top 25 and also get some much needed points up in the CCHA standings. With back to back games against the Buckeyes in Columbus on December the 4th and 5th Michigan winning both at home this week will help boost major confidence going into the Schott next week.

Oh, okay.

Yeah, Wisconsin and Minnesota have had mediocre seasons thus far, but I always love to beat Big Ten rivals in the Showcase.

I haven't looked at any of their team stats lately, but these should be fun games to watch: close and physical.

It's a shame they're always scheduled over Thanksgiving when the student section is all but absent.

Minnesota's season has been just about as awful as ours has been. Slowest start in terms of goal production in program history (only 3 goals in first 4 games), got shut out for the weekend at home against Denver, lost 3 players in the span of a week (broken jaw, knee injury in practice, defection), got swept again at home last weekend vs Minnesota-Duluth.

Even with all that, it looks like they have their shit more together than we do, or are at least further along on the path to righting the ship. They've at least occasionally been playing inspired hockey, had some good showings against quality opposition, and some of their top players are finally starting to step up (mainly Schroeder). They only lost their two games last weekend because they pissed away two goal leads, and quite frankly we don't have the same kind of offensive firepower as Duluth to make a comeback like that feasible. Minnesota 4, Michigan 1.

Wisconsin has been mediocre for the WCHA, which generally isn't bad overall. It looks like they've been struggling to put together a complete weekend, but I honestly don't think they'd need to bring their "A" game to beat us at this point. They looked pretty solid when I saw them play last Saturday. I think if they're going to sputter at all this weekend it would be against Sparty, and they're not going to have any problems putting the puck in the net against us. Wisconsin 6, Michigan 2.

did anybody else buy the frozen four ticket package thinking that this was deff U of M's year to win it all? The season is long from done, but there is a lot of work to be done (and some luck to be had) if they want to contend this year.
