Schlissel too. True rainmakers.

Way to go Hackett, Schlissel, Regents, Big Donors and fans.
Jimmy's Coming Home!!!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:07 AM ^
How he pulled this off would be a great story. Hopefully Bacon or someone like him can get the behind the scenes info to write it.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:35 AM ^
I agree. I was hoping for an extensive write up by Brian on how, in his perspective, thiis went down. This seemes like such a longshot even a week ago. How did this go down without a sniff from the mainstream press. I stated in a previous thread that I thought Bacon was behind/cold reading on his updates...in the end, how very wrong was I. HARBAUGH!!!!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:07 AM ^
Our leadership certainly stepped up and handled this like savvy pros. Not one of my fears going in materialized during the process.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:09 AM ^
Posbang Java! Big House Blend, right?
December 29th, 2014 at 8:08 AM ^
thank you for bringing order to the galaxy again
December 29th, 2014 at 8:10 AM ^
that should never have to pay for a drink again in his life, it is Jim Hackett.
Well done.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:51 AM ^
I'm sure if Hackett arrives at Ashley's and the 1st 100 beers have already been spoken for, his drinks will somehow be covered. Dude deserves a free keg stand.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:10 AM ^
For how shitty 2014 has been at least it is ending on a GREAT note. Round of applause for Hackett and all those involved.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:10 AM ^
I propose that from now on, the MGoCommunity refer to Hacket only as "The Boss".

Thanks Hackett and Schlissel, a true turning point in the program and university. I can get excited about football again!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:12 AM ^
Dave Brandon for being such a scum bag and shitting all over the Michigan fan experience....without his douche bag antics we may not be in this position today!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:28 AM ^
I hated Brandon less than most, and the things he said like most fans knowing only 5% and all that glitters didn't phase me. That said, DB didn't show he could secure a big-time coach. Just like seven years of RR and BH (who both had ups and downs) will make the fan base appreciate Harbaugh more, DB will make us appreciate Hackett (and hopefully a worthy successor) more.

Hell yeah! Way to go TEAM!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:15 AM ^
Despite the crappy reporting about this being "disorganized" or "a mess", from insiders this has been handled in exactly the right way. We had (have) to wait for the official, but damn this looks good.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:15 AM ^
Hackett has defied odds. Schlissel will keep the academic standard high and Harbaugh will extend out lead on the wins over every other team. I just love it. Can't wait for it to be done with on Tuesday. I will have a sigh of relief and would not know what to do. I will start complaining about petty things such as music in the stadium and Kraft.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:16 AM ^
That was a major pull. Look back 6-8 weeks ago when people listed JH as the dream coach that would never happen. On this board. The people that will often say that Michigan is going between 10-2 and 12-0 and winning the B1G each year said getting JH was a pipe dream.
That to me is simply amazing.

Jim Hackett aka "The Closer"
December 29th, 2014 at 8:17 AM ^
First, results-based posbang! Second, I give Hackett a ton of credit for focusing on what matters (getting a grade A+ coach) and not what doesn't (winning the media, putting himself front and center).

Coffee for now, but other brews later.

The plane is leaving at 10PST from SF. I just want him in AA safely.
Cheers to the Prez and The Closer. Go Blue

Thank you so much Mr. Hackett. Can't express the gratitude I have for making and executing the coaching search in the manner you did. The professionalism was exemplary. If you could see me right now you would see I'm giving you a standing ovation.

I just can't help contrast and compare Hackett to our sunglasses-wearing, camera-loving, film watching, tone-deaf, Irish bamboozled, former AD what'shisname.
All Hail Jim Hackett.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:24 AM ^
After suffering through the idiocy of three non-athletics businessmen running the Athletic Department (Goss and his Halo, Martin and his boat rides and Brandon and his arrogance) you have restored my faith by closing on what is the most important hire in a long time. Thank you.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:24 AM ^
Results based business.Got it done!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:24 AM ^
I haven't been so excited for Michigan football in my life. That's saying a lot.
Thank you:

Hackett and Schlissel KILLED this coaching search. Should write a chapter in a Sports Administration textbook.

Im waiting for a john u bacon book on the subject

can hack it -- great job & no leaks by him -- just focused to get the job done -- so far he is off to a good start
a better successor to Don Canham & Bo than any other ADs since
December 29th, 2014 at 8:28 AM ^
Special thanks to the former football players that have been rumored to have called and lobbied to being JH back. The one that stands out is Woodson publicly saying he would want Harbaugh at Michigan over Oakland.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:30 AM ^
Outstanding job done on this search. Hats off to everyone involved.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:31 AM ^
I have no idea what the extent of his involvement in the JH hire was, but he's the POTUM and he deserves a lot of the credit. Either for his direct involvement in the negotiations, or for being smart enough to bring in Hackett and stay out of the way.

A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have you attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action - Get on the plane

This may be weird, but one of my biggest fears was that my children would grow up to not appreciate Michigan Football. They turned 2 this past summer, and I worried that M would still be in a state of mediocrity when they start to become old enough to enjoy sports. I feared that they would wonder why their old man was so obsessed with a terrible football team--they would never understand what I know Michigan to be.
This changes everything. In a couple of years, order between UM-MSU will be restored, we may be looking at a modern day 10 Year War, and Michigan will be a contender every year.
Thanks to everyone at Michigan that made It Happen!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:48 AM ^
I have three and eight year-old girls, and this resonates with me. The older one has been to a few games, but I want her to understand the intense atmosphere of a competitive rivalry game that we win. The younger one yells "Go Blue" every time (any) football is on TV, so she's on the right track as well.
I can't wait for them to share the excitement of our first Harbaugh Championship!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:59 AM ^
Every time a football game is on, my kids think its Michigan and they get very excited. They love getting dressed in their gameday gear.
Where I live, i see A LOT of young Spartan fans, and I believe it has everything to do with their recent success and Michigans struggles. People like to pick winners, and I want my children to experience Michigan not only winning but being dominant in doing so. Thats the Michigan I grew up with.
December 29th, 2014 at 8:39 AM ^
will never have to buy another cup of coffee in his life. Well-done, sir!

December 29th, 2014 at 8:47 AM ^
Hackett showed incredible deftness in this search. I remember being terrified that this guy without an athletics background would be picking the new coach. I'm gladly eating crow now.
All hail Hackett and Harbaugh!
December 29th, 2014 at 8:49 AM ^
It is amazing what can happen when you bring on board a team with a plan and goals and the means to execute them, but even better, the freedom to execute them. I admit that, back around Halloween, I was just pleased that I wouldn't have to look at Dave Brandon but on a chance basis about town then, but then to see Hackett come in and instantly begin to make some repairs to the ship, as it were, and then as the pinnacle of it all, "the greatest happening of our time", well, you know the line, folks...
December 29th, 2014 at 8:51 AM ^
It makes sense now why ticket prices weren't lowered. Create more demand by getting the best coach.
