The official Jim Hackett "coffee is for closers" posbang / appreciation thread

Submitted by CoachBP6 on
While we are all waiting for the official, official, official announcement, I think we need to acknowledge the amazing job Jim Hackett has done since becoming interim athletic director. The position Hackett was put into seemed impossible to many and yet he has done nothing but execute his plan to perfection. So let's posbang for Jim Hackett and perhaps gift him with a lifetime supply of premium blend. Seriously let's enjoy the next few days, we deserve it. HAIL HAIL!!!

I agree. I was hoping for an extensive write up by Brian on how, in his perspective, thiis went down. This seemes like such a longshot even a week ago. How did this go down without a sniff from the mainstream press. I stated in a previous thread that I thought Bacon was behind/cold reading on his updates...in the end, how very wrong was I. HARBAUGH!!!!

I hated Brandon less than most, and the things he said like most fans knowing only 5% and all that glitters didn't phase me. That said, DB didn't show he could secure a big-time coach. Just like seven years of RR and BH (who both had ups and downs) will make the fan base appreciate Harbaugh more, DB will make us appreciate Hackett (and hopefully a worthy successor) more.

Despite the crappy reporting about this being "disorganized" or "a mess", from insiders this has been handled in exactly the right way.  We had (have) to wait for the official, but damn this looks good.

Hackett has defied odds. Schlissel will keep the academic standard high and Harbaugh will extend out lead on the wins over every other team. I just love it. Can't wait for it to be done with on Tuesday. I will have a sigh of relief and would not know what to do. I will start complaining about petty things such as music in the stadium and Kraft.

That was a major pull. Look back 6-8 weeks ago when people listed JH as the dream coach that would never happen. On this board. The people that will often say that Michigan is going between 10-2 and 12-0 and winning the B1G each year said getting JH was a pipe dream.

That to me is simply amazing.

First, results-based posbang! Second, I give Hackett a ton of credit for focusing on what matters (getting a grade A+ coach) and not what doesn't (winning the media, putting himself front and center).

Thank you so much Mr. Hackett. Can't express the gratitude I have for making and executing the coaching search in the manner you did. The professionalism was exemplary. If you could see me right now you would see I'm giving you a standing ovation.

I just can't help contrast and compare Hackett to our sunglasses-wearing, camera-loving, film watching, tone-deaf, Irish bamboozled, former AD what'shisname.

All Hail Jim Hackett.

After suffering through the idiocy of three non-athletics businessmen running the Athletic Department (Goss and his Halo, Martin and his boat rides and Brandon and his arrogance) you have restored my faith by closing on what is the most important hire in a long time. Thank you.

can hack it -- great job & no leaks by him -- just focused to get the job done -- so far he is off to a good start

a better successor to Don Canham & Bo than any other ADs since

Special thanks to the former football players that have been rumored to have called and lobbied to being JH back. The one that stands out is Woodson publicly saying he would want Harbaugh at Michigan over Oakland.

I have no idea what the extent of his involvement in the JH hire was, but he's the POTUM and he deserves a lot of the credit.  Either for his direct involvement in the negotiations, or for being smart enough to bring in Hackett and stay out of the way.

A-I-D-A. Attention, Interest, Decision, Action. Attention - Do I have you attention? Interest - Are you interested? I know you are, because it's fuck or walk. You close or you hit the bricks. Decision - Have you made your decision for Christ? And Action - Get on the plane

This may be weird, but one of my biggest fears was that my children would grow up to not appreciate Michigan Football. They turned 2 this past summer, and I worried that M would still be in a state of mediocrity when they start to become old enough to enjoy sports. I feared that they would wonder why their old man was so obsessed with a terrible football team--they would never understand what I know Michigan to be.

This changes everything. In a couple of years, order between UM-MSU will be restored, we may be looking at a modern day 10 Year War, and Michigan will be a contender every year.

Thanks to everyone at Michigan that made It Happen!

I have three and eight year-old girls, and this resonates with me. The older one has been to a few games, but I want her to understand the intense atmosphere of a competitive rivalry game that we win. The younger one yells "Go Blue" every time (any) football is on TV, so she's on the right track as well.

I can't wait for them to share the excitement of our first Harbaugh Championship!

Every time a football game is on, my kids think its Michigan and they get very excited. They love getting dressed in their gameday gear.

Where I live, i see A LOT of young Spartan fans, and I believe it has everything to do with their recent success and Michigans struggles. People like to pick winners, and I want my children to experience Michigan not only winning but being dominant in doing so. Thats the Michigan I grew up with.

Hackett showed incredible deftness in this search. I remember being terrified that this guy without an athletics background would be picking the new coach. I'm gladly eating crow now.

All hail Hackett and Harbaugh!

It is amazing what can happen when you bring on board a team with a plan and goals and the means to execute them, but even better, the freedom to execute them. I admit that, back around Halloween, I was just pleased that I wouldn't have to look at Dave Brandon but on a chance basis about town then, but then to see Hackett come in and instantly begin to make some repairs to the ship, as it were, and then as the pinnacle of it all, "the greatest happening of our time", well, you know the line, folks...
