24 - 48 hours isn't much time to satisfy the Rooney rule. Correct me if I'm wrong...wouldnt other teams looking to trade for JH have to satisfy the Rooney rule?
Or is trading for a coach a loophole?
December 21st, 2014 at 5:03 PM ^
hiring. Teams are required to interview minority coaching candidates. The harbaugh situation would not apply.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:46 PM ^
Yeah, it makes no sense financially. If true they must REALLY want to get rid of him. Thankyouverymuch.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:47 PM ^
It's a big place, but nowhere could I find someone who said this was going to happen, let alone Jay Glazer. I certainly hope it's true, but without a link, this kind of post is a little irresponsible. If he said this somewhere, at least include that in the post.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
yet at least
December 21st, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
Couple of posts down. The thread title should be chamged.

I was really concerned with your concerns.

As big a place as the internet is, it has a funnel called Twitter that seems to direct you to you all the information you could need.

Which is why I went there first.
December 21st, 2014 at 3:33 PM ^
On the bottom ticker of the Bears game at the beginning of the game. I missed the beginning of the statement but what I caught says decision on JH's future at SF will be decided within 24-48 hours after their last game.

FOX Sports 1 Insider Jay Glazer reports that the 49ers and head coach Jim Harbaugh are expected to cut ties within 24-48 hours after the regular season ends.

December 21st, 2014 at 2:48 PM ^
I know everyone is all happy by this but doesn't this allow all the other NFL teams a chance to get into the Harbaugh bidding war sooner?

I agree...this doesn't impact when he comes to UM, however, it eliminates the restriction of making a trade and going to a team that is losing a piece or two (draftpicks-3rd or 4th round pics possibly).

Shows how badly the fanbase wants it when at the time I'm typing this, the OP hasn't received a downvote despite not providing a link, tweet, audio clip or anything.
EDIT: Well, that changed in a heartbeat

OP Fail.
If the OP is getting info from this article.

It says he will get fired 24-49 hours after the end of the season.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
We have known for a long time that his era in San Fran will end after the season. No news here folks.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
49 hours? Theme here: 49ers, $49 million, 49 hours.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
made within 24-48 hours after the last game. It has been scrolling on the bottom line of the Lions broadcast all game.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:50 PM ^
Fucking awesome news if he's being fired. That means that they know that they won't be able to get any value out of him.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
He said "end that relationship". Could be a trade. Could be fired. All he said is the relationship will end.
Put the horse back in front of the cart again.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
This is my surprised face.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:51 PM ^
I call BS. Not when they could trade him and get value...unless they absolutely know he is going to Michigan and have an agreement on buyout with Hackett. Further, they'd need some agreement that he not work in the pros for x number of years or they receive some monetary compensation from Harbaugh etc.
You just don't let an asset with value walk away. The Yorks seem like typical ND jackasses but probably not stupid.

exactly. there is no way i see the 49erers not firing Harbaugh if they know he has accepted another job. This is not a MAC school
December 21st, 2014 at 3:03 PM ^
Well if they don't know, they are being REALLY stupid.

If true, shows 49ers believe there is no trade value to Harbaugh. If that's the case, only logical inference is that JH has something in place to coach Michigan.
San Francisco wouldn't take JH or his agent on their word that he's leaving and give up potential value (even if 4th round pick, still value and saves paying 5 million as contract damages.) My completely uninformed guess is Michigan and JH have at least an MOU and 49ers and Michigan reached an agreement on paying out the 5 million severance cost. Again, all premised on if Jay Glazer's report is actually true.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
This is old news. Harbaugh won't be let go until after the season which is what Glazer reported four hours ago.
December 21st, 2014 at 2:55 PM ^
I can guarantee you SF will not fire him. Especially since they know other teams have interest in him. If they fire him, they have to pay out his contract.
They will either try to trade him, or make Michigan buyout the last year of his contract.
These people who say he won't have to pay if he leaves for college have no idea what they're talking about. A contract breach is a breach, unless he has a clause that allows him to leave for college with no penalty.
December 21st, 2014 at 3:01 PM ^
i dont believe they owe him if he gets a new gig -- thats fairly typical in coach contracts I think. New salary offsets old salary.

Did Alabama pay the Dolphins when Saban left?
Did Arkansas pay the Falcons when Petrino left?
December 21st, 2014 at 3:18 PM ^
Saban didn't have a buyout clause in the Miami contract. Same with Petrino.

Although I visit this site 100 times a day...I rarely ever post here. I think we need a thread for your "MGoBeverage" of choice for the hiring. Myself...I have 1 bottle of Goose Island Bourbon Barrel Stout waiting for me when Jim comes home. Just curious if anyone else has a celebratory beverage of choice for special occasions?
December 21st, 2014 at 3:02 PM ^
I celebrate often.
December 21st, 2014 at 3:11 PM ^
I've never tried that, but it sounds good. But what's your drink if we don't get Harbaugh?

Hemlock. Big gulp.

Me too. Maize and blue kool-aid with hemlock stirred in. I'll be wearing my sweatpants and unofficial Nikes.
