Yup. This is part of my point
December 8th, 2014 at 12:56 PM ^
But....but....my important thoughts.
Without my very own CC thread how will the world know that I think <insert random coach, ex-coach, etc name here> should be considered? If I just post it here my very important thoughts will get lost in the clutter of your very unimportant thoughts and the world will be a lesser place for it.

Wow it's creepy how accurate this statement is. Gives me the chills.

of George Carlin's comment: "...everyone else's stuff is shit, and your shit is stuff."
December 8th, 2014 at 1:05 PM ^
I think Jim Harbaugh should be considered. Has anyone thought of that yet?
Maybe Dan Mullen? Les Miles? Or how about Jim Mora? What about the other Harbaugh? Gus Malzahn is a dark horse. Does anyone else think Kevin Sumlin is a possibility? What about Gary Patterson?

Lately it has been. When looking at Michigan football from a historical perspective - not so much.

Or just make a tab next to "New," "Recent," and "Hot" that says "CC"...and just have all CC posted their.
At the same time I'd like to say....In before someone says..."well, what other news is their to talk about!?"

Jim Mora is probably the best new addition to the candidate list in some time. What he's accomplished at UCLA and his style of preferred offense with Brett Hundley is pretty encouraging.
Harbaugh, Mullen, Stoops, Mora...in order of preference.
December 8th, 2014 at 2:08 PM ^
Two reasons Jim Mora isn't coming:
1. The Seahawks paid him $8M after firing him - so even though UCLA isn't paying him much, I doubt he's fretting about it.
2. From a 2011 article discussing the odds of Mora going to the Eagles as a coordinator, "Mora has four kids to think about, some of whom are at that age where relocating to a strange city on the other side of the country isn't at the top of their wish list." That situation hasn't changed.
I love Mora, but wouldn't put much weight in the reality of his candidacy.

I was hesitant to do this - as much as I wanted to do it - because of the backlash over the concept in general, but if people would like this to become a thing for limiting independent CC threads, we can do it. My thoughts for basic parameters:
1) If it is a suggestion for a name that comes without a detailed profile, it goes in this thread. If you do a detailed profile, you might as well go all the way and make it a diary (keep in mind the parameters of a diary though).
2) If it is just a link to a story (e.g., a Harbaugh story) that contains little or no significant additions to the picture, if you will, like a summary of what NFL analysts have said to date, it goes here.
3) If it is your own personal take on the situation and it is not a wonderfully detailed essay (e.g., 15,000 words on why you believe Harbaugh is / is not coming), it goes here.
ADDENDUM: We can definitely make an exception for the normal trusted sources around here. Thanks for the reminder, Everyone Murders (see post below).
December 8th, 2014 at 1:54 PM ^
I've not started any CC threads, and agree there have been some pretty silly ones. We've seen way too many fantasy threads, repetitive redundancy reiterations re: realistic candidates, or "joke" threads (of which only a small minority are funny).
But if Sam Webb, JUB, or any other source that is somewhat credible breaks substantive news relating to the coaching change, I enjoy having that be a separate thread - even if it's not definitive. Those posts don't bother me, especially if the post is armed with an informative caption. I think we need to draw a line between news and snowflakes.
Put another way, there's some wheat among the chaff that chaffes us so.

It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you "Harbaugh is near"
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
It's the hap -happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and Hackett led meetings
When friends cry Harbaugh
It's the hap - happiest season of all

"Day 10"
December 8th, 2014 at 1:27 PM ^
Everyone thinks they have something fresh and new to say, and thus they don't want it to just be lost in the chaos, which is quite understandable. I'll admit, I don't like to post to threads with over 100 comments if I think I really have something to say. I just save the thought for later, though, instead of starting an entirely new thread on it.
Maybe a daily CC snowflakes thread? lol
December 8th, 2014 at 2:40 PM ^
but that thread would easily reach a million posts by the end of the day. It would unclutter the board but it would make trying to find any new information very tedious if not impossible in a thread that long. For better or worse I think you have to make a new thread any time something new comes to light. The chances of people finding that one post where something new got reported in a thread as long as the one you're advocating for is likely to be would be slim to none.
Again, I agree with your sentiment, but I think the cons out weigh the pros in this instance.
December 8th, 2014 at 2:57 PM ^
I was thinking about putting all of the information stuff in the OP like a mod edit if the mods don't mind converging it all into the OP. Then all of the comments would discuss the matter. For instance yesterday could be.
-guy from CBS thinks Jim Harbaugh is staying in the NFL
-guy from twitter says Michigan has reached out to Harbaugh but have been told he doesn't want to coach there
-Les Miles not contacted
-Jim Harbaugh answers at press conference
-Mississippi State trying to give Dan Mullen contract extension
-local SF sports reporter on Harbaugh

If Hackett's wide first cast is, say, 25 names, from which he will (1) gauge interest, (2) conduct further investigation, and (3) maybe run further background searches, I could see Gruden making the cut. Hell, I can't even come up with 25 names that I would consider unless I include guys like Saban, Chip Kelly or Pete Carroll.
December 8th, 2014 at 3:45 PM ^
This is just an idea i'm throwing out there no reports or anything (in other words I know just as much as everyone else). What about Gary Kubiak, head coaching experience, runs the right offense, has a few years of college coaching experience and has really revitalized Baltimore's offense this year. Could tell every defensive recruit they remind him of Watt and every underated recruit that they are the next Arian Foster. He is also relatively young
December 8th, 2014 at 4:23 PM ^
2. Target replacement has turned them down
3. Replacement chosen and accepted but can't announce because of bowl or NFL season implications.
4. Brandon had coach targeted thinking he was not getting boot and when he did Hackett was told to start process over
I believe it's # 3 or 4 (hope actually) cause there should have been a lot of legwork done already since Hokes departure has been imminent since the ND game. If not we are a rudderless ship.
