Could you date a girl that didn't understand your obsession with UM football?

Submitted by goMichblue on
I don't think I could. So I took my fiance, who doesn't know football too well, to our first trip to the big house this year for the Indiana game. Now at the end of the season she wants to go to the Big House as bad or worse than me. She's a pretty big fan now considering the short time (she wants to get married at the stadium!). She even wants to join MgoBlog to discuss UM football, she sealed the deal with me for that.

My Fiance didnt understand my obsession at first. She is a native SoCal girl and an avid USC fan (well as Avid as a USC fan can be). I just buy her Michigan clothing and talk to her about all the time and before I knew it she was swearing at the TV with me on gameday. To answer your question, if they cant be converted dump em.

My fiance is also from S. Cal., her father was an alum, and it took a good long time to bring her along. Many of our first fights were, e.g., about me going into catatonic shock after the Horror. At the end of the day, it is something any girlfriend is going to have to deal with, and it may take her awhile to get it, but if she loves you, she'll come around.

I've tried and it didn't end as well as I'd liked. I ended up pushing Michigan sports too hard and at this point she enjoys talking sh*t after Michigan loses more than enjoying victories with me. All-in-all I've definitely learned some valuable indoctrination lessons. Chief amongst them -- play up our traditions and downplay the arrogance.

with no appreciation for college sports of any variety. She thinks my outbursts are absurd. But she lets me go about my business for 3 hours and doesn't give me a hard time about it. Quite nice, actually.

If she has a real dog, whether it's a mutt or a pure-breed, a successful relationship is possible, regardless of football affiliation. If she has a goddamned Shit-su or Lhaasa-Apso or toy poodle or Cockapoo or some other ridiculously tiny-brained varmint, forget it.

it didn't work out to say the least. Her chief complaint was how I spent more time on here than w/ her. She was a dead fish in the sack too.

Yeah, why do you have naked Doug Flutie as your avatar? You have a thing for short Canadian quarterbacks? Don't take this wrong but I'm kinda glad you aren't together anymore, sex isn't everything but life's too short for bad sex.

Topher has mistaken Christian Bale for this dickhead Doug Flutie. It seems logical because Flutie is also a handsome man and in fact does a similar thing Bale does by acting for a camera and he also has a penchant for Valentino suits and Oliver Peoples glasses. Bale and Flutie even go to the same barber, although Bale has a slightly better haircut.

I married one. The nice part is that no matter how dumb she thinks my obsession is, she's still contractually obligated to tolerate me.

No. I don't think I could. I think it actually should be put in a pre-nup that if she somehow loses her desire to root for Michigan there can be an automatic annulment.

This is easy. Of course. Unless she hinders you from being obsessed with Michigan Football in any way. I have dated a few girls who didn't understand my obsession, but they totally didn't care that I was obsessed. Never dated one who shares my same obsession...I envy those who have that deeply.

Good for you. My take is that Michigan football (including the arrogance) is like owning a Harley (it took my wife a few minutes to get used to that, actually). Anyway, if you have to explain your obsession then she likely wouldn't ever understand.

I think I could. I would though give her a full warning of what she was getting into. So if she doesn't like my obsession I could I always say, "I gave you fair warning."

But then again I am married and have been a football coach for the past 15 years. She knew what she was getting into. She better have some damn good qualities if she has problems with your love for UM football....like you know.....you know.......when she.....you know....doesn't bitch when you go golfing.
