Can I be the head coach at Michigan...
— Chad Johnson (@ochocinco) December 2, 2014
Well as of now he's the only "candidate" that's overtly expressed interest... wonder if that headhunting firm has him on the radar and what the Vegas odds are?

If you have grown up and matured maybe you can interview for receivers coach. No promises though.

I believe he also said he wanted to be a judge on "The Voice."

Don't kill the messenger, but Schiano has overtly expressed interest in UM's vacancy...and NE's I believe...and I'm sure there will be others if he doesn't get either of those.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:47 PM ^
Lets hope Nebraska hires Schiano before Michigan can even go that direction.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:58 PM ^
I hope that Hackett is smarter than this. There is nothing about Schiano that I see as more redeeming than any other coach out there. He may be a defensive mind (and is available immediately), but his 68-67 record over ELEVEN seasons at Rutgers doesn't scream elite. In those 11 seasons, only once did he finish the season in the top 25. The season by season record comparisons seem to be pretty erratic, too. There seems to be no indication that he could have made Rutgers rise above mediocrity, which is where Michigan currently is.
Maybe I'm just tired of hearing all of these "re-tread" names being thrown around. Either bring someone in who has proven excellence or consistent progression to merit a shot.

Yeah, it seemed like a bit of a reach in the first place to even consider him for an NFL job. OTOH, guys like Jim Harbaugh and Bill O'Brien were reasonable candidates. Common sense alone should have been enough to cross Schiano off the list, though.

Former DC there under Coker. So let's hope they can Al Golden's ass!
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:44 PM ^
Anybody who willingly changed his name to "ochocinco" as a joke has in all likelihood forfeited his rights to a serious job as Head Coach at a prominent public U.
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:16 PM ^
Yeah, people bold enough to poke at the rigidity of cultural norms should be disqualified.
December 3rd, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
I have a feeling that "Ochocinco" is much more of a celebration of ones own ego and perceived "greatness" than to "poke at the rigidity of cultural norms." I'm surprised his tweet wasn't in the third person...
December 3rd, 2014 at 6:46 PM ^
there was nothing profound or even more than surface deep about his name change, the guy has always been an annoying egomaniac, the worst was when we ended up with him and T.O. on the same team, two big egos who weren't willing to put forth the effort necessary to achieve greatness (TO had given up at this point).
Aside from that if he were trying to raise cultural awareness you'd think he would spell "Ochenta y cinco" right.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:44 PM ^
I'd take him over Schiano.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:50 PM ^
his name has more vowels than Bo's, so that is a good sign.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:52 PM ^
An even better sign!
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
But the ideal candidate is not Chad Ochocinco. The ideal candidate is none other than Tshimanga Biakabutuka.
The most letters and the most syllables. Plus he knows how to beat Ohio State. Let's make this happen.

I would too, not even kidding.

Actually I think Mike Shanahan has previously expressed interest in the job. I think I'd prefer Ochocinco.

Not as HC, but if he has any eligibility left, he'd be instant upgrade at the WR position.
And his unfettered, unrestricted endzone celebrations ought to be epic.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:49 PM ^
And, in college worth a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:51 PM ^
If everyone else says no and all that is left is Ron English and Greg Schiano, then yes Chad - you can coach Michigan.
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:51 PM ^
Pros:
- Is Chad Ochocinco
- Knows an NFL offense
- Recruits will like him
- Tom Brady factor, yo
- Can kick field goals
Cons:
- May not know the first thing about coaching
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:05 PM ^
Pros
-Wants to coach Michigan
-Wants to be bilingual
Cons
-Can't do those things
December 3rd, 2014 at 12:52 PM ^
He would be a player's coach.

Still better than Shaw or Schiano...
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:13 PM ^
I know it's just a joke, but again, God please no! That dude drives me crazy!
The one plus to having him as a coach would be his recruiting ability. I bet he would absolutely kill it!

Although he would be endorsed by Chris Webber, I'm sure...you can't have enough TO's at Michigan.
Too soon?

he's basically mocking us in his own financial misery, right? He is broke and probably couldn't do much worse than we're paying Hoke a kings ransom to no longer do. He's basically going to social media to to (jokingly?) tantrum about his financial state. He's posted some pretty funny jobs he'd like to have in the last year, then delete them only to do it again.
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:17 PM ^
I know nobody takes it seriously. I'm wondering if you realize he's mocking us.
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
I would love to see that.
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:20 PM ^
Granted, the Sporting News put out mock odds, but I thought that the field - and there would perhaps be no better example of "field" than Chad Ochocinco - was something like 12 to 1. I suppose that if you bet the field conservatively - say, $20 - and we hire Chad, you can potentially come away with enough to have a catered bash as you witness, for example, the Michigan / OSU rivalry take a very ...unique.... direction.
That being said, I am pretty sure Chad has wanted to be a lot of things over the last few years, but this is definitely breaking new ground for him.

The hell out of a HS team right now, I do believe...
December 3rd, 2014 at 1:35 PM ^
most grew up in an age where every player that became a coach was an "old school, no frills" type player. No matter how good they were they weren't like (what I'll call) "the modern prima donnas". When will those players be acceptable candidates by the masses did to their playing days behavior? Point being, everyone does the Flintstone Flop, etc after a first down now. Most players are clowns. In a field of clowns there must be good coaching minds. When do they become acceptable? Say Chad is a bright coaching mind, when would anyone but a HS consider him and his type?

Obama for Michigan coach 2015!
