Fired not resigned!
I like Hackett so far - he's handled the firing with some class and the right way (looking at you Nebraska). Lets hope he continues to deliver with hiring the right *cough* Harbaugh *cough* coach.
Edit: NOOOO! DeBord is in charge. But... YES! No chance he's going to be the coach!

I like the pendulum analogy...

For example, my alma mater (Vanderbilt) somehow managed to defy physics by swinging way to one side around 1940 and rarely crossing the halfway mark since then. ;-) So I consoled myself with the thought that inspirational rhetoric is what's needed now, not deep analysis of trends in college football.

This presser being handled really well so far. Gotta give Hackett props for that.

Wojo threw in "age" and it made Hackett smile...very teling.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:46 PM ^
He also through in the NFL in that question I think. I wasn't sure what part he was doing it for, but he def had a smirk before he looked directly at him to answer.
December 2nd, 2014 at 5:16 PM ^
I noticed a little bit of a self-censoring halt in the answer about the swim lane charts, about how some coaches are preparing for bowls now, or... oh, other things. (Like the rest of the NFL season?)
December 2nd, 2014 at 10:22 PM ^
If you read between the lines of all those swim lane and timeline and waiting to upgrade comments . . . they are pursuing Jim Harbaugh hard.

Mike DeBord as over see-er (interim coach)??
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:47 PM ^
He won't be a coaching candidate. I'm fine with him overseeing the administrative details for the next month offseason.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:43 PM ^
For those worried about THE PROCESS - Hackett just said he decided on Sunday night and took the time to call the President and then Hoke.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:44 PM ^
lol at Sharp being off base in his question...
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:46 PM ^
but must confess, I had the same misunderstanding..

I just wish he had AD experience to kind of calm the masses that he's the one making the decision for the next coach. However, he's been pretty impressive this afternoon with how he's answered questions, how he handled things with Hoke and how he's illustrated how he will go about making the next hire.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:59 PM ^
Let's not forget we all liked what Brandon was saying at first too.

No one else on UM's staff does. It was the logical choice for caretaker until a new coach is hired.

"I'm going to get rid of the word Michigan man..." - I like Hackett.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:47 PM ^
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
He broke it down very well as to why.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:49 PM ^
that someone who coaches the Michigan football team has to have coached there before in order to be a "Michigan Man".
Rob

"Michigan Man."
Wish everyone had the same definition.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:48 PM ^
Hackett wants to get rid of the "Michigan Man"!

"GET RID OF THE WORD MICHIGAN MAN" !!!!!!!!! I'm in love.

December 2nd, 2014 at 4:50 PM ^
but at least after that press conf. I wouldn't midn if Hackett stayed on as AD
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:50 PM ^
Well done Mr. Hackett. Thank God to get rid of "Michigan Man". Sounds like he has it covered.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:50 PM ^
my live feed cut out just after he said he wanted to get rid of the term "michigan man."
i'm SURE that is coincidence. good god, let it be a coincidence.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:51 PM ^
Well, I was VERY impressed with Hackett today. The points about the swim lanes & what "Michigan Man" really means, were just awesome.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:51 PM ^
December 2nd, 2014 at 5:00 PM ^
I think what he was saying was, they have contracts beyond this year, and M will honor the terms - even if that means the new coach doesn't want them and we pay them off.

Hackett can drop the mic, that was the press conference I was looking for
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:53 PM ^
Well said. My thoughts exactly.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:52 PM ^
Good now let Michigan Man mean what Bo originally intended.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:53 PM ^
Hackett handled that press conference beautifully, and with dignity.
I like that he gave Hoke props for what he did right, and I like that he said that we also need success on the field, that we need both things.
I'm glad he spoke to the players directly. I'm glad that he spoke to the President and to Hoke. I like that he said that you don't change someone's life without thinking very carefully about it. This is something one never heard from Brandon.
I must say that I'm impressed with how the man takes care of business.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:57 PM ^
very well done by Hackett. Wojo's questions were very well asked too. Like a mirco chess match there.
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:58 PM ^
also glad he defered commenting at all on candidates or the search (other than the process). keep it separate, keep the focus on Hoke and closing that book, before opening the next (even though he surely has been peeking into a few)
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:53 PM ^
get some cut ups of this presser next to Dave Brandon pressers. #mindblown
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:54 PM ^
Could it be more obvious, or was i just imagining that smirk and look of confidence so hard that he was trying to cover up how excited he was to announce the new coach?
December 2nd, 2014 at 4:54 PM ^
Hackett seems more genunine person than David Brandon ever did. I thought he did a nice job.
